Music has a massive amount of descriptors used to name different styles. What you'd call "Rock" is probably a very specific definition that may not fit somebody else's idea of it, and for good reason. The sounds we know and love have been studied and designated accordingly, and many casual listeners may not even know it.

What is your favorite subgenre? Are you an indie rock fan? An ambient listener? A doom metal fan?

For me, I don't have many favorites in particular, but I really dig Nu Jazz, Jazz Rap, Progressive House, and Synthpop.

I mainly listen to subgenres of electronic music. I'm not familiar with all the existing subgenres, to the point I may like some without actually knowing I'm listening to them, but of those I know the list goes like this: hardstyle (more euphoric than raw, but both are good), hardcore/gabber, frenchcore and some uptempo. We could include a few others, like for example bigroom, but I don't regularly listen to those or just a few artists.

I'm also into the Metal field, though I'm even less familiar with the subgenres there than in EDM. I do have a penchant for electronicore, which mixes metal with different styles of EDM, but other than that I just have a few songs from different groups that I like, without digging much deeper.

Under the Rock umbrella I generally like 5 subgenre

I like Rockabilly. For those that do not know this is early Rock mostly 50's. It is called Rockabilly because a lot of the leading artists were from the south. Examples, Roy Orbinson, Elvis, Johnny Cash, Everly Brothers,

Do-Wop is a type of rock that mixes Blues, Rhythm and Blues, and Rock. I really like Do-wop. Popular Do-wop artists include the Platters, Moonglows, Coasters and etc

British Rock-This is the type of Rock that was part of the British Music invasion in the 1960's. This type of rock was known for its electric sound. My favorite bands are Dave Clark 5, Animals, Rolling Stones.

Soft Rock started in the late 1960's and went into the 1980's. This type of Rock is popular. One of the popular soft rock bands is Chicago

New Wave-New Wave Rock is from my decade the 1980's. This sound focuses on instruments and keyboards. It is the sound that defined the 1980's.
