I was kind of curious about this, but what sort of games do you folks find yourself playing recently? Older titles or newer ones?
And by 'old' in this context I'm going to define it as anything that has come out 3 or more years ago.
You're free to even mention what titles you've played that fall under your response, it's always fun to see what kind of obscure stuff people get into these days.

Like recently I've had an urge to play some of the older titles in my library, like Roller Coaster Tycoon and Titan Quest. Old games tend to be clunky yes, but there's this sort of magic that comes with controls that can't be remapped or tricks you remember just because you played the game as a child.

Old games, mostly. I spent most of my time with emulators on my PC or playing my Wii. And hell, I'm certain that barely a couple games I own for Playstation 4 were acquired less than three years ago lol

I just can't get myself to love modern games anymore, first of all because I've detached myself from videogames a decade ago or so. From more than 20 Gamecube games I used to have to merely a handful I'm interested in for the Switch I pretend to obtain. That's a big reason why I stick with old games compared to new.

While old games indeed feel clunky sometimes, if you actually lived through the times when those games were at the top of the console's capabilities you know just how awesome they used to be, and you still enjoy them like back then or even more.

To be honest I prefer the older stuff, I don't know how well I would do with newer stuff because I've tried playstation and N64 but....I played Paperboy for N64 and eventually I wasn't feeling too good.

I've certainly been playing much more recent games lately since my main gaming platform these days is steam. I'll still boot up some relatively old games (mid 2000s kinds of things, so old for me) but most of the games I play were released in the last 5 years and continue to receive updates.

To be honest I haven't booted up any games in the RGR since the last netplay tournament.

Mostly new games. Many of the old games that I want to play I either don't own them because they cost 100 times as much now, or I don't own the console anymore. Most of the old stuff I own is Game Boy titles that are from the DS shop or some physical GB and PS1 games. Plus many of those games that I have also have remakes so I'd rather play those on a more accessible console.

According to Steam my preference is games that are about three years old, but I don't think it has a very clear idea what I want. class' problem is what I call simulation sickness, when your eye insists to your brain that your body is actually moving based on the data it's processing and your body disagrees. It hits different people at different graphics levels and can usually be stopped by getting farther away from the screen, but people having that problem with VR are kind of out of luck.

I wanna say it depends but if I really think about it I struggle to finish retro games anymore when I was younger I could do it more but as I get older I've lost some of my patience for retro games when I know I could be having more fun playing something more modern though I will say there's some exceptions.

For example I've played the first 4 Ace Attorney games this year and last year and the latest release of those titles was 07. That being said I still replay games I grew up with a decent bit or even games that I played this past decade for the first time like I first played Super Mario 64 in 2012 and it's still up there in my favorite 3D platformers despite it being older than me.

Old games will always have a greater appeal to me than new ones. I enjoy seeing the imperfections and triumphs of the past. It's also a fact that there were simply less tools for game creators to work with back then than there are now, which, in my opinion, led to more interesting games.

Ultimately, simplicity is best. And if it's not the best, it's most interesting. That's why I like old games more than new ones.

I have always gravitated towards old games, while I can still play new ones, I find retro games easier for me to understand, heck its to the point I have a CRT and 9 consoles hooked up to it through various means.
