How skilled do you think you are at video games? What do you think your best gaming skills are? For me I think I'm decent at most video games and I'm not sure how to really identify what my best traits are in video games. Something I do think that does wonders that I can't explain when it comes to my skill is sometimes I can get way better at a game by simply not touching it for a long period of time which makes no sense. I truly believe it's not a result of me underestimating myself or anything of the sort because for example the most recent example of this happening is on the rhythm game known as osu! Where I used to struggle for years trying to keep up in stars above my skill level now I can't all of a sudden match the godly speed needed to hit the crazy movement but I can process it way easier now. Something else is I'm a lot more skilled at songs I've played before but thought were too difficult but since I've started playing again I nearly ace. I don't know how good I am at explaining it but sometimes my skill level really seems to go up for no understandable reason to me like it's not like my reaction time is all of a sudden increasing to some insane level and that's why I can follow all the movements better and it's not like I just understand how the game works better either because I haven't played or watched anything from it in years. I guess another trait I would say I have which is good is my determination if I decide I wanna be good at a game I'll practice harder than anyone for that goal it's one of the few times in life I can become very goal oriented whether it be proving someone wrong (more on that in a bit) or just not wanting to be passed up or wanting to match another player I've met. To briefly cover the motivation I get when I wanna prove someone wrong I think I've talked about this before in a thread so I won't go to in detail but the reason I played Kingdom Hearts 2 FM on critical the first time was because someone I hated said I couldn't beat it and put down my skill so I proved him wrong and now anytime I play 2 or 3 I do on critical it's a curse I can't go back now cause it would be to easy otherwise. xD I think through effort on my own part I can say I've gotten semi decent on analyzing what I did wrong after I lose in a game something I used to never be able to do but my natural drive to improve as made me learn to get better with that. I guess the sad thing about it is I'll probably never actually use my gaming skill for anything noteworthy while I like the idea of me going to a tournament to compete I've never had a game I for sure liked enough to seriously train for that kind of thing even smash bros is hard for me to play enough to get to the level I would need to be at to even wanna try. The only way I could see me actually being in E-Sports is if Minecraft PvP is all of a sudden a serious e-sport but even then I would have to work insanely hard to overcome things such as my click speed never being as high as people who can jitter click and I also kind of wonder if diabetes has any effect on things like reaction time.

I think it largely depends on the genre (of course)... but on average I think I'm pretty good, especially for someone who doesn't really do as much gaming as you'd expect. I play almost all of my games on the hardest mode available, and it's not like I blow through them super easily but it's pretty rare that I get caught up in a specific part for more than 30 minutes.

That does however discount some specific games where I feel like the difficulty is artificial and just requires you to grind more without anything actually being harder - usually turn-based games. Take for example Persona 5, where normal enemies aren't much harder on Merciless but you only get half the EXP and money from fights. Because of that I just opted to run through dungeons on Normal and then fight every boss on Merciless (tip: there are several personas that trivialize the entire game, but of course you can also do actual challenge runs without those personas).

I also am a big fan of rhythm games and am absolutely in the higher echelons of skill there - lots of my friends can verify I was top 100 in a game with millions of players, but that was a long time ago and I'm definitely nowhere as good anymore hahah. I do still have some skill left in me and I enjoy going around and trying different kinds of rhythm games though, and once I adjust to the different mechanics or whatever after a few hours of messing with it, I usually start doing pretty well.

I would like to say that I'm a jack of all trades when it comes to games. I would say that I'm pretty good at racing games, however I don't race with a wheel or with all assists off, so I've still got a way to go to be a pro. I'm good at fighting games, but I would think I'm better at realism fighting games, like UFC or Fight Night compared to a Tekken. I know I'm no good at Street Fighter, can never figure out how to play that properly. As for difficulty, I don't really push myself too much unless I'm aiming for achievements. I usually ease myself in and play at a relaxed pace, but if I see it being too easy, I step it up. As for RPGs, I take my time with those and go for everything, optional or not. I don't mind grinding a bit if I have to, and I don't really ever run away from random encounters if they keep me EXP in return, every little bit helps there. Sports games I'm OK with, even though I like playing them, I don't usually do too well against other players, get my butt handed to me on a regular basis, so I usually stay offline for those. There are probably a few other genres that I've played but can't think of now, but I'm the person that's fine with playing just about anything, really.

I’m the best there is, best there was, best there ever is. My skills are on par with God himself in fifa and fighting games. Been playing fifa since ‘98 and been playing fighting games since killer instinct and virtua fighter 2 back in ‘99. Good enough to go pro, not anymore my reflexes aren’t too quick anymore but I can still give you a hard time on any fighting game or fifa

I specialize in platformers, which means I'm absolutely awful at most other types of video games. But yeah, I can pick up on how to play platformers well really quickly. I'd say I'm pretty good at any of them that have easy controls. There are a few games I like to speedrun, and I wouldn't be speedrunning them if I didn't have quick reflexes.

The only thing that screws up my skills in platformers is when I have to go WAY out of my way to find something that's hidden. That's when I resort to these lovely things called walkthroughs.

I'm very good at some games, especially at Smite where I went pro two separate times since 2014 and at Super Smash Bros Ultimate but I'm horrible at virtually every other genre.

Between my friends I'm kind of good at certain games, but on an overall basis. I'm a total newbie lol

I'm very good at racing and fighting games, being able to quickly get the hang of them and perform well almost right off the bat. I'm also quite skilled in party games like Mario Party, and I'd like to say I'm also good at strategy games after so many years of being glued to Yu-Gi-Oh! and other TCGs.

Like I said, being very good doesn't mean I'm actually that good. Whenever I've tried to go ranked I've been greatly overpowered and destroyed. So yeah, you could say I'm the best amateur there is xD
