My goal is to get the remaining pages that still use the old site code migrated to the new site code by the end of the year. On January 1st of 2021, I'll be making all of the pages not migrated unavailable. The old site pages have a lot of issues, including lack of mobile friendliness, security issues, poor code which causes server strain, an inconsistent layout, etc.

Here's what was recently migrated:

Friend's List
Originally part of the control panel, the old friend's list has been merged with the new Friends List page. That page previously didn't let you add or remove friends, it only let you view the friends already on your list and you had to use the old page to add and remove friends. Now you can do all of those things from the same page. You can also now update the Relationship type of a friend without removing them by simply adding them again but changing the relationship type (this will not add them again but instead just update the relationship type).

Downloads
Originally part of the control panel, the downloads page use to be the most active page on the site since it drew in tons of traffic and was the primary source of traffic for a while, many years ago. Most of the content is irrelevant and some of it dates back to the early 2000s but I figured I might as well preserve that content.

Vizzed Flash Bash
Flash is going to be discontinued soon anyway but I figured I'd migrate this for the sake of preserving it. Flash will always still be available in some form, just not available by default in all of the popular modern browsers.

User Ranks
This use to be one of the more popular features but now it seems to be something that is never used and that no one really knows about. Basically it was a feature where users could pick a rank type and have that shown next to their user picture within the posts of the board. That part of the feature was discontinued years ago and the page that displayed that content has worked in years either. I've fixed the page and have migrated it mostly for nostalgia purposes but it does function (although I removed some of the features) and is still a great way to see who has been active lately on the site.

I gotta say I like the update to the friends list makes it a lot more convenient to update what you have someone as and while I don't use the downloads page or Vizzed Flash Bash I really think I've seen the User Ranks page before back around the time I first started using the site and while I'm not 1000% sure that it was around back then I do think it's really cool to see it nonetheless.

While it's always good to see the progress of the migration to the new site code, do you happen to know if we'll maintain this page alongside the revamped CP log?

That page is kind of useful for general stats for a user's complete history instead of just the time gaps the log allows us to see. And sometimes, for certain purposes, it's much easier to see just the numbers instead of the specific actions.

Good thing preserving the Flash Bash, maybe you should consider keeping a video recording of it for when flash is discontinued in hopes of somebody using it as source for EasyRPG like we mentioned in the other thread.

SonicOlmstead : The User Ranks was a popular feature among Acmlm Boards back then. Every user had a rank based on their post count and it'd be displayed next to their user pic in all of their posts. There really wasn't else to it beyond that but it was still a big deal back then.


EX Palen : Yeah I'll definitely be migrating that page as well. I think most pages will be migrated in some way, or at least the ones that are still used or still have a purpose.

I kinda wonder how hard it would be to convert Vizzed Flash Bash to HTML5. Not a bad idea about making a video. I did make a trailer (april fools prank) years ago which does show it in action but it also has a tiny bit of footage not actually from the game:

For some reason I just got reminded of a long-forgotten feature which is the Post Radar, and I think we could probably upgrade it a bit if it gets migrated to the new code.

The new feature could revolve around more than posts. I'm thinking that a radar for CP or post experience could also do the job. Also, besides targeting specific users, maybe we could add set numbers people could put on the radar to check how far are they from certain milestones (and in the case of CP, perks as well).

I'm okay with the feature being discarded altogether for lack of use and/or interest in this suggestion, but I wanted to let it off my chest now that we're running against the clock to "save" the old features and pages in the old site code.

Oh nice! Yeah I saw the neat additions when logging in after a bit, and updating flash games to HTML5 would be really helpful for the future if the source is available.
