Vizzed Looks So.... Old school... It needs to Get HTML5. If not Im Sad...

Funny thing, I'm very sure it is using HTML5. It's a site that likes gaming with a prioritization on Retro Games, so it looking old school is probably a design choice. In fact I'm positive it's using HTML5 as most pages are using the new site code, the pages not converted over probably aren't, but are fewer than there used to be.

I just updated my Ipad and now Vizzed runs like crap here. So I can understand the sentiment. It depends on the page I'm on though, it's probably mostly the non HTML-5 pages. Anyway, this place has needed a face-lift for awhile, I think David just likes it this way.

I actually like the appearance of this site. I've been on other boards and they can be much more confusing, though it's true that a redesign doesn't entirely mean we'd lose the simplicity of this current layout.

HTML5 is actually in use within the new site code. Not all pages have been migrated yet, but the ones still on old code are a minority and not very frequented. Keep in mind only one person is in charge of coding everything in this site, and he has a full-time job to attend as well as a family he wants to spend time on (and none of us should deprive him of such).

I agree with what others have said. I also like how simple Vizzed's layout is.

pennylessz : That's interesting that it doesn't run well on your iPad. Vizzed runs really well on my phone when I've occasionally used it on there. And my phone is a cheap one XD

Pacman+Mariofan : Yeah, I was on IOS 12 and it ran fine, but then I updated to 13.5 because it has some features I wanted, and so far I'm disappointed. Websites still run fine aside from Vizzed, but the battery is draining much faster as well. Plus some of the features that are supposed to be in the new OS just don't seem to work.

So.. CHANGE THE SITE DESIGN TO MORE MODERN...

Davs is very protective of his design, I'm not sure he'd appreciate this thread!

But hey there are some very important historical reasons for Vizzed looking the way that it does! Did you know that Vizzed is based off of a forum software written by a 13 year old in the late 90s? (I think, might have been as late as 2001). The design keeps a lot of those old elements because that's sort of what's attractive about the software. It's nostalgic for a lot of us.

Another thing is that Vizzed allows users to have post layouts. That sort of thing is not really compatible with a super design focused site, because personal layouts can ruin the whole design!

And finally, the HTML technology used has nothing to do with it. The site could be converted to HTML5 and not change at all. And it can be updated to a more modern design but stay with XHMTL 1.0. Everything in XHTML 1.0 (Which Vizzed uses) is valid or partially valid in HTML5, so davideo could change the site to HTML5 with a single line of code and literally nothing would change.

Lazlo Falconi : That's really cool that that's what Vizzed's design is inspired by! And yeah, I love the way that layouts work so well with this site.

I know a lot of if not most of the site is using Html5 I quite like the retro aesthetic the site uses so I'm glad that David has never really bought into the idea the site looks bad or outdated. I really like how unique the site looks I think it stands out compared to every other site I've ever been on.
