For all you Mario fans out there, do you like Mario platforming games (for example, Super Mario 3D Land, Super Mario Galaxy) more? Or do you like Mario RPGs more (for example, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team)?

I like Mario platformers a lot more. I probably always will. I think Mario RPGs are really cool, though! I might eventually try to beat one.

I prefer the RPG's because I'm not a big fan of standard platformer games.

zanderlex : I enjoy the platformer games more, but I still think the Mario RPGs can be more original and more fun to play for a long time. They seem to be especially more original with the storylines! The platformers are 90% just Princess Peach getting kidnapped.

cid789 : Super Mario Bros. 3. is so cool! I love the linear levels in that game, but I also love the adventure and the different worlds!

Which type of Mario games did you play first?

Pacman+Mariofan : i have played all nintendo mario games and super mario world not 2 or rpg yet and but super mario kart super mario 64 and auper mario kart 64, super mario land 1,2 and 3 (i have bought super mario land 3 for 3ds), not played super mario adv. games yet but own super mario 3d land and 100% game blind too, played super mario adv. not super mario 7 yet played super mario wii own mario kart 8 deluxe played mario kart 8 too. only ones haven't played or own is paper mario games or rpg mario games but wanting to play them. 1 of switch game i am looking buy is odyessy for switch. 7 games are left i am looking for buying for the switch and i know 1 is on hold for awhile. ff7 remake.

I also want to play a Paper Mario game someday. I want to play through Sticker Star.

Pacman+Mariofan : they have a new one for 3ds now for super mario 64 with 4 ppl now wario, mario, luigi, and yoshi too. play the one wii u thousand year door look cool as well.

cid789 : I've played Super Mario 64 DS! I don't like it near as much as the original, but it's cool that Nintendo included 4 characters! Switching the characters up gives it a similar feel to the Mario RPGs in which people can use different characters for different things.

I'm a much bigger fan of Mario RPGs.

This is going to sound weird, as a huge fan of gaming in general, and having played most every well known game of the past 20 years, but I've never been terribly fond of Mario as a platformer. I find the Banjo Kazooie type of platformer to be more rewarding to play, and don't think Mario as a character is interesting enough of a character proxy to use for extended periods of time.

legacyme3 : Yeah. Even though I enjoy the Mario platformer games, I think they can get pretty repetitive.

I vastly prefer the RPGs over the platformers, but that's mostly because I just am not a big fan of platformers in general. Bowser's Inside Story was also a pretty damn good game. I enjoyed playing that a lot more than I thought I would, since I kind of have a bias against Mario games in general just since most of the games I have played I have a general bias against.

That's hard. Back in the day I would have definitely said RPGs. I loved the first few Paper Marios, super Mario RPG is great and the mario/luigi games are fun as well.

Nowadays it's rougher. The latest Paper Marios have just been objectively bad. All soul the older ones had is just gone since they try all these weird gimmicks that don't work out. I'm somewhat hopeful for this upcoming one since it seems they did attempt to bring the partner system back although most of them still look extremely bland. I loved the way they would use a basic Mario character and give them all different looks and quirks while still sticking to their roots as a goomba or something. At the very least even if it won't be a great game I want it to be a step back in the right direction. And maybe the ones after can be as great as the originals.

The platformers have remained more consistent in quality in my opinion but I think the best RPGs outclass the best platformers. The only reason I'd play a Mario platformer at the moment is if it's with friends and we're playing multiplayer. That s*** is hella fun

All in all I'd give the edge to RPGs as it seems that they're finally starting to realize some of the issues long term fans have had with them over the years.

For me it's easily Mario platformers I've never been the biggest fan of RPGs tho over the last year I have slowly become more a fan of them thanks to Persona I now can say I have a lot of rpgs I wanna play however I've had a lot more attachment and enjoyment from the main series platformers.

Minuano : I agree that Bowser's Inside Story is such a good game! I remember playing through some of it on my DS. I just watched a playthrough of it on YouTube and realized that I really didn't get very far, but I enjoyed the feel of the game a lot!

Furret : I'm continuing to flood your notifications box tonight, woohoo! I'm also pretty disappointed in the newer Paper Mario games. I thought that it kept going downhill after The Thousand Year Door.

Haha yes, I loved seeing a Goomba with long hair, that made me laugh when I first saw it I think the platformers have kept a good quality. They aren't always very original, but the gameplay has been consistently fun for me.

SonicOlmstead : I also don't usually care much for RPG's, but I'm glad I tried Bowser's Inside Story (although I never finished it). The platformers have been very enjoyable for me though, and I've found myself coming back to some of them again and again.
