I'm okay with this. Not only does it prevent abuse by new users, but it will also encourage activity.
However, currently, the only way to get out of the Newbie rank is to make what, 10 posts? Can that be changed to where contributing some other kind of way could get you XP? Rather than being post based, Newbie and Member should be XP based. Unless somethign has changed recently that I am not aware of.

Glad we got this going. That streak of banned users on the memberlist taking advantage of the system wasn't great.

We can always give more opportunities to Newbies to legally obtain certain items they might want, or use this as a good way to get some more activity on the forums. I mean 10 posts isn't too bad now, is it?

It's been a struggle to find ten things to reply to because so few threads are active, though (seriously, you don't have to scroll down far before you find all the threads are locked because they've been inactive too long), so currently, the ten post thing, as low as that requirement is, might actually discourage people. Something needs to be done to make the forum more active with existing members, I think. Do that, and the Newbies would be more encouraged to participate in discussion as well. We need more things to talk about!
