Honestly as I've grown up, I've noticed some stuff that personally when I was younger that still to this day give me the chills or even still scare me to this day. I'll get started with one of them. I know some Game Overs tend to be the source of some people's nightmares and when I was a kid this DKC GBC game had such a weird off putting screen that kinda scared me off from playing the game for some time.

It also had this much more dark music that wasn't in the original SNES game and it easily still gives me chills just because Diddy's eyes looks so misshapen. Ironically the Gameboy Version, Donkey Kong Land, had a much better looking Game Over card. Whatever made them change that in the transition to the GBC I will never know.

So what are some creepy things in your childhood memories from gaming? It can be literally anything.

When I was a kid, I played Alien Trilogy on PlayStation. The face huggers scared the bajesus out of me, and I had nightmares. After that, my parents kept me away from everything horror for most of my life. When I eventually got back into that stuff as a teen, I did a really bad job not being terrified. As an adult however, I have basically no fear when it comes to horror games and movies, except maybe Amnesia: The Dark Descent, there's something special about that game.

pennylessz : For some odd reason it feels like a lot of the horror games now and days just seem to be kinda... not that scary? It tends to fall into the category of "Just put Jumpscares here" or "Oh no this spooky thing happens out of nowhere" and to me what makes something more scary is when it comes from the least expected of places.

The game over sequence in Banjo Kazooie for N64. It utterly disturbed me.

Metal Gear Solid 2 in general just f***ed up my child brain completely lmfao. From the random corpse falling out of the locker toward the beginning of the game for no reason to child me who had no concept of lore, to the infamous creepy codec calls toward the end of the game. Still love that game and will defend it to my grave.

plasticinsanity : Same! Honestly I still remember that to this day and I think it's more the tone of the music then anything. Honestly though, I think DK64 had a way scarier Game Over that to this day really still sends shivers down my spine.

Minuano : Yeah I can agree with that. While i'm not usually quite so scared about the idea of corpses just randomly being in a locker the whole Codec Call thing is something that really gets to me. It tends to come out of nowhere but gives such an eerie vibe that I can't help but be scared due to it.

The suitless section of Metroid Zero Mission, an entire shot taking a tank of health was quick to make me spooped of Space Pirates. Nowadays they aren't that much of a problem especially since I speedrun the game, but it's still a thing I remember spooking me.

The only thing that really scared me when I was a kid in gaming was the voice on "Sinistar" because it meant he was coming for you! By the time the first Resident Evil came around I think I was 11 or 12 but I never was a playstation kid,I was always a Nintendo kid.

Something that creeped me out when I was young was the lavender town theme because I heard about the made up story about Japanese kids in the 90s and so I was always really scared and would get chills because of it.

The "Magic School Bus Explores the Human Body" PC game was genuinely unsettling, with lots of creepy visuals and music. It's actually surprising that it was ever released in its final form.

It would probably be the pokemon tower (from pokemon of course), i don't really have many memories of it since it's been so long however I can say that none of the memories that I do have from it tend to be very good or pleasant either if I'm completely honest it just gives me an eerie vibe that makes me want to get it done as soon as possible. XD

In Resident Evil when you very first encounter one of the zombies it switches to a cutscene of the zombie turning around. That scared me good.

And also Silent hill 1 & 2. Both theses games scared me so much i could not play them alone.

I was a chicken s*** as a kid.

Like I have been playing games since I was a kid, especially things like Banjo Kazooie and other platformers/adventure games, but The Legend of Zelda in general freaked me out as a kid, in both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask.

Once I hit a town, I stayed there, talked to everyone, did as much as possible, and tried to avoid doing dungeons until I absolutely had to. They scared the crap out of me.

As a kid I remember getting scared playing silent hill 1, to the point of having nightmares about the creatures that were in the school area. Nightmare fuel at its greatest in the PlayStation days
