I've been trying to catch a shiny Pokemon (literally any shiny Pokemon) on Let's Go Eevee for the past few days, with no success. I've used up about 20 lures in the process.

What I've been doing is getting to a combo of 31 with Pidgeys, then traveling to a different route and using a lure. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a better way to increase may chances? Any specific areas I should try that might yield better results? I don't care which shiny I catch, I just want any one at this point lol.

The way you're doing it, is that you have roughly a 1 in 1000 chance at getting a shiny. Once you get a 31 combo though, just play normally and don't catch any Pokemon. Just play normally and a shiny will appear normally. The shiny doesn't have to be the same Pokemon as the chain so that's really cool but you have to keep your eyes peeled. A shiny might spawn in a different part of the map and you might never see it.

zanderlex : Uh I definitely have more than a 1 in 1000 chance. I'm doing everything you said, plus I'm also using a lure, which increases shiny chances as well as the number of Pokemon you're exposed to.

If they didn't change it, it's 4/4096 with a max chain but IDK how much the lure does.

zanderlex :

If I recall correctly, they did make it so the odds were more likely to encounter a shiny with this game.

Get a chain of at least 31, and then find a route with the Pokémon that has a building on or near it. Every time you exit and reenter the route, the Pokémon will reset and make the whole process much faster.

Other than that, it’s just luck. I kept catching up to 100 for the candies and because I was superstitious about higher odds.

But unless you’re really lucky, it’ll take a while.

zanderlex : Actually in X and Y the shiny odds were 1/4096. Up until Black 2 and White 2 they were 1/8192 though.

By default and without doing anything, you have a 1 in 4096 chance of encountering a shiny Pokémon in Let's Go. Once you hit a chain combo of 11, you gain one extra re-roll for shiny Pokémon. This re-roll brings your odds down to 1 in 1024 (these odds do not include lures or the shiny charm). From a chain of 21 to 30, you gain another re-roll, bringing your odds to 1 in 512 and from 31+ onward, your odds come down to 1 in 341.3. Notice how with every benchmark, your odds are cut by 3/4 from 4096 (down to 1024), by 1/2 from 1024 (to 512), and by 1/3 from 512 (to 341.3). If you factor in lures and shiny charms, your odds get even better:

I can't remember if I told you this or not, but there are only 3 things that will break your chain:

1. The species of Pokémon you are trying to capture runs away
2. You catch a different species of Pokémon
3. You turn the game off or your Switch dies (sleep mode and going to the home menu are fine)

Now if you don't care about IVs, you can ignore rule 2. There are two different things that shiny chaining increase: (1) the odds of finding a shiny Pokémon and (2) the odds of finding the Pokémon you are chaining with better IVs. Regardless of what you are chaining, once you reach 31, your odds of finding any shiny Pokémon in the game are maxed. So if you want, you could chain 31 of 1 Pokémon, go somewhere else and wait for a different shiny and catch that instead. Just be aware the IVs might not be as high as they would've if you had chained that Pokémon from the start. This has happened to me a couple of times for me, when I was chaining for a shiny Magikarp, I never saw one but instead found a shiny Tentacruel in the same area.

Here's an example:

say you are chaining Magikarp (because they are super common) and you reach a chain of 31 (which grants you a max chance of getting a Pokémon with 5 IVs), but you actually want a shiny Ponyta instead. You could leave the area where you are catching Magikarp and go to where Ponyta can be found and still have those max odds applied. The only thing you will be missing out on are the increased odds of better IVs. Once you catch something different though, your chain resets, so keep that in mind.

This is how the IVs increase with chaining. In parenthesis I will also include the extra shiny re-rolls you get:

chain of 1-5: 2 Max IVs
chain of 6-10: 3 Max IVs
chain of 11-20: 4 Max IVs (+1)
chain of 21-30: 5 Max IVs (+2)

On a side note (I don't know if you've beaten the game yet), once you beat the E4, flying Pokémon will be able to fly higher than before and will give you a much better vantage point when looking for shinies below in the grass. I prefer to stay on the ground and use lures because that works for me, but others have had success with this method as well.

Overall, even though the shiny chances continue to improve in your favor with each game, RNG is still a factor and patience is still required. The great thing about this game is that you can see up to 8 wild Pokémon appear on the screen at one time whereas you encountered Pokémon one at a time in past games.

I hope you find this information informative and useful in your shiny hunting. If you have any other questions or concerns, I will attempt to answer them to the best of my ability haha.
