I made a few small adjustments to the 'Message Center' that appears toward the top of every page for logged in users.


Always Displayed
The Message Center will always be visible whether you have new content or not. Previously, it only displayed if you had new content. Additionally, each section of the message center will always be visible (these were also hidden if you had no new content in those sections). Each section will also take up less room if you have no new content in those sections.

Even though you could find links to these pages before, it was convenient to have them in the message center whether you had new content available or not.

Shows Who is On Page
It'll now show a list of users on the same page as you. Previously, this list of users was crammed in the section that displayed all of the available button links in the current directory.

I've always liked having the pages show who is on the same page as you, it gives the site that lively atmosphere. This update gives more exposure to that and has more space to show all of the users.


I still have big plans for the message center that I think will make it far more appealing and draw more attention to the content in there. This is all I have time for at the moment.

I was wondering why it looked so weird on mobile.

Maybe if you converted the old notification layout to the mobile view it might make it easier tor mobile users because right now it takes up a lot of extra space on the sides and cuts some stuff off.

zanderlex : I kinda forgot about phones. I removed the list of displayed users for phones for the time being. I'll add it back when I get around to finishing the message center.

Thank you for this update, makes it a lot easier to access my notifications now. I kept struggling to get back to my notifications after clicking on one yesterday, so this will make it a lot easier to respond to notifications if I get more than one at a time.

Davideo7 : You know what I think would be a good idea? What if there was just one staff inbox label and once you click on it, you have access to the different staff boxes that you have access to?

I do find the "On Page" text very very small. I think unless you are really paying attention, it might be hard to know what those little boxes mean. 

Personally, I like how it looks normally, like when you are replying to a thread. The way it is now, kind of scrunched up on each other, I'm not a huge fan of it.

Just my tidbit of feedback.
