With all the rumors and hype surrounding the upcoming Gen 8 Pokemon Switch games that will be released at the end of 2019, everyone is going crazy with a potential reveal on the horizon. There is some evidence to support that these games might be revealed in the possible January Nintendo Direct, if not that time then sometime early this year. New Generations are always revealed early in the year, since they have so much new stuff to talk about and reveal to hype the games up over the course of the year until release. Also, Best Buy has listed Pokemon for Switch on their list. Not sure if this means anything, but it could possibly hint to a reveal soon. Be sure to check Pokemon's twitter account closely, as they usually drop really subtle hints in some of their posts like they did before the reveal to Gen 7.

The speculation is that the new announcement will be for the Gen 8 game on the switch, which I am incredibly excited for.

I hope I’m the release, they assure us that they are keeping a lot of the same mechanics from Let’s Go! And are going to be building off of that game.

We’ll see what they release, but I am very hyped for it.

It has been confirmed by Game Freak that these new Gen 8 titles will be a more traditional Pokemon experience, not like Let's Go. I do hope that Pokemon still appear in the overworld, though.

I really don't expect any pokemon news until July, which is around E3. I know Pokemon has never been at E3 as far as I know, but it's just a feeling I get. Sure, it's 2019, but I don't think it'll be coming out in Q1 or Q2. I'd go as far to say that it wouldn't come out until Q4.

I heard that Nintendo has a surprise for Pokemon fans this year but I have no idea what it could be. Gen 8 on Switch wouldn't really be a surprise.

Lexatom : Yes, while it is the biggest generation, that also means that development time will be a lot larger. Sure, they could announce it a long time before it ever comes out, but I don't think it would be very wise of them. The pattern you're talking about may change given the fact they're working on something that much bigger.

They have been working on this game since either around the time after Sun and Moon were released in 2016. They split into two different dev groups to make Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon and Gen 8. That's a total of about 2 years worth of dev time now.
