Something I've been working on a little on and off for a while now is a feature that would allow users to create their own pages and websites on Vizzed. They'd get their own WYSIWYG editor, their own section of the site and all of it hosted on Vizzed free of charge, granting them access to the site's many features and userbase. I'm also taking that idea a little further...

I'm also going to be giving some users the ability to write PHP code on Vizzed. So, if you have an idea for a feature on the site, or simply want to create a fully functioning dynamic website, the power to do so will be in your hands. The PHP developers would have access to some of the functions I've written on the site and they'd have access to accessing (but not modifying) some of the variables as well. So this means that if you wanted to create a feature, your script would know who is on the page, their powerlevel, and tons of other things. PHP Developers wouldn't have access to everything for obvious security reasons but they'd have the power to create just about anything that would be part of the Vizzed eco system. They'd also get their own database to do just about whatever they want with. These PHP Developers would also have a manual that I'm still putting together that tells them all of the variables and functions they can use, what they do, and how to use them.

To begin with, I'll be giving JigSaw access as a test run. He'd help me find any potential exploits, give me feedback and help me get it working well enough to expand it to all other users who have experience with PHP and a vision to help expand this site.

So, how many of you have PHP skills and would be interested in becoming a PHP Developer on Vizzed?

PHP Developers will also be able to create their own functions and make those functions available to all other PHP Developers. It'll be a nice collaboration system once I'm done

JigSaw : If you have suggestions for other variables that you'd like to be able to reference to, let me know. See my above posts to see what I'm talking about.

Davideo7 : I'd like to see Contribution Points, Post Experience, and perhaps the users Age as additional variables. I think everything else is covered. If not, we can always add additional variables in future.

Also, it might be a good idea to create a variable or function that easily checks if user is logged in or not.

For some reason, I'm seeing your images being cut off at the right.

My browser is Opera and set to default zoom; even when clicking on the image, it's still cut off at the right.

tRIUNE : Yeah they cut off because the extra text didn't fit within the screenshot. When users are given the actual API, nothing will be cut off and they'll have full details of everything.

JigSaw : If $User_ID == 0, then it'd be a guest. I agree though, a better way of detecting that would be a good iea. I should probably also added a few Guest related variables.

I think this is a great idea, Davideo7. I know giving users a code to the site hasn't always worked out as planned in the past, but I think that this is a great solution to have users use their skills to improve the site they love.

I'm hoping to have a beta version of this concept up and ready sometime this week. As mentioned previously, JigSaw will be one of the first to get their hands on it. If any other PHP coders are interested at getting early access to it, let me know

Davideo7 : It's great so far, now it just needs the database aspect added in so we can make features. My only worry is people might not know PHP so that might not leave many people to making anything with it that is my major concern with it. If someone were to tell me a feature to make I could probably make it.

JigSaw : All we really need is a few users with PHP skills and other users can make the suggestions for them to add. Even if someone is sorta new to PHP or even rusty with PHP, I plan to add some features that assist with coding in PHP. I've got a lot of great ideas for this, very exciting

I personally won't be using this but I love that it is being opened up to people.


Would this allow someone to build a battle game???? That is one of the only things I can think of off the bat that I would love to see someone take the time to develop.


Also, do you have a vetting process in place both for users and for their content? I'm assuming anything they create will go to you before it becomes available on the site and that you would tweak it for security and what not.

Just thinking out loud about this. I like the idea though. It shows a lot of promise to get new features developed without you having to do all the leg work.

Its theoretically possible, but I don't think PHP devs will have access to the Database, with good cause I might add.

sounds fun just reading the title makes me happy. ive been learning php the past few months and maybe I could help in someway? its always  nice to know vizzed is here for me

I'm not sure how I'm going to go about content approving yet. I kinda wanted to make it so that they have their own site hosted on Vizzed that uses the Vizzed eco-system but allows them to kinda do what they want since it'd be their own site.

Davideo7 : oh, that isn't quite what I was expecting. I thought you were allowing people to develop FOR Vizzed. I must have glossed over the fully functional site part and only focused on the developing features part because that was more interesting to me as a user of Vizzed.

Still, I like the idea and I'm curious to see what people come up with.

I actually think I might be able to work with what's there.

But I was thinking something I could use to make a simple rgr game randomizer script.
