So yeah, lots of us nickname our Pokémon, but I always wonder what others name theirs. Me, I name my Pokémon after people I know, not sure if thats normal, or common... I do know the best one on the team gets my name though. I gotta be the very best.

Normally, I don't really give any Pokemon that I capture any nicknames, I rather keep the original names that they are called. Mostly the reason why is because I'm not really too good with names, plus I like to keep it original, and also with the factors of trading as well, because a lot of people that trade Pokemon prefer to keep the original name instead of the previous owner giving the nickname.

I never nickname my Pokemon. There's too darn many of them as it is (I'm a genwunner and gen two, with a little bit of four in there, so yeah). I don't want to forget what Pokemon I have. 
"Hey man, that Pokemon destroyed my Garidose. What is that thing I've only seen a few times and can't remember the name of?" 
"No idea. I just call it {insert nickname here}"

I used to name some pokemon after people I knew but I stopped naming them at all a long time ago. Eventually it became too much work and too difficult to keep up with all the names, especially once you have caught a lot, and definitely if you catch multiples of the same Pokemon and have to name all of them.


Plus there aren't enough names to go around for 1000+ Pokemon.

I usually name my Pokemon after my friends or the pets in my life. With my cat however, since he has two names, I end up naming my starter the first half (Ollie) and the legendary of the game the second half (Apollo).

Unfortunately, some of them I cannot repeat lol. I named some of them with some very crude names. Most of the time though, I never really changed names, I just left them how they were, but if I caught one that I already had, I would change the name, for example Oddish, I had one already, and caught another one, and I named him "Fart", now granted I was only 7 or 8 when I did this, many years later when I played Pokémon, I did the same thing, and named him something that would get me banned from this forum lol.

I was never that good at nicknaming pokemon but the name raters always told me the nicknames I gave were good XD. I also at one point named a Pikachu Sparky in Pokemon Yellow I think it was. Sometimes, you might get lucky and find a lot of weird, funny, and crude Pokemon nicknames, sometimes, they will have their original names, and sometimes (especially after Pokemon Bank & Pokemon Transporter), they won't be a whole lot of Pokemon (like 1 maxed) or someone has reset the game altogether. that's the beauty of used Pokemon games.

Yeah I know right. I don't remember where I got the idea for my Charizard being named CJ or my Pigeot named PJ but it stuck for me naming my Charizard CJ, so I named every Charizard I used one of those versions of CJ.

You guys reminded me of one nickname for a Pikachu I use. When Yellow was all the rage, my dad had one of his 'moments', and grabbed my Game Boy as I was about to name my pika pal. He pressed A and the directions a few times, followed by start...and 'Sacab' was born. Lol, to this day, if I play Pokémon and catch a Pikachu, I nickname him/her Sacab. Bless/curse my dad.

Even know that I usually don't give any Pokemon any nicknames because I rather keep things original and all, but in Ultra Sun, I encountered a wild Igglybuff, when it called for it's help, a Jigglypuff showed up, and I went ahead and defeated the Igglybuff, and captured the wild Jigglypuff, and I couldn't help it and end up giving it's nickname "Pudding"

I always named my pokemon like a slave trainer they don't have nicknames just assigned numbers as there names starting from X-1 , thru X-12 and so on but I did give my blaziken a name once i called him Blaze oh and of course I named by bidoof HM slave and my zigzagoon trashboat

Nicknames are an on and off thing for me, some playthroughs I don't bother, other times I decide to name every main party members. I mean most games have the nickname changer anyways, so sometimes I give myself time to think on it. Notable examples:
I came to realize Alolan Grimer is basically a wad of soap in some way, so I went into the cabinets and looked at disk detergent. Her name was Ajax.
In Pokemon Crystal Clear I caught a Slugma (wouldn't recommend it too soon, the thing evolves at level 38) and called it Cherry Pie, which seems cute, but then it gets really inceptiony when you realize pie is the Spanish word for foot and a slug is basically A FOOT.
Gengar is always Wilfre, old habits die hard.
Then there's always Greek mythos to fall back on when I need a good name.
