Recently, I decided to start writing a Screenplay based off the comic that I have been doing for 7 or so years now. I have had this idea for how a movie based on it would go, however many of the ideas over the years have been scrapped or changed but now I have a definite idea of how I want the story and characters to turn out. Right now I'm about 20 pages in but I'm nowhere near being finished. Anyways I just wanted to tell everyone about it, I think its going to be awesome when its finished!

That sounds exciting.

Can we have a sample of what you're doing and some of the writing?  How about you give us the first 20 pages of your screenplay and then that might motivate you to keep going once you get some feedback.

That sounds amazing! Hope you have good luck with that. Though what exactly is this comic? Is it a web comic? I'd like to read it.

No sadly it isn't a web comic, its just something my friend and I have done all throughout middle school and high school. The name of the comic is "Action Guy". It is one of those, "Nerdy, Awkward guy becomes a superhero" stories, so it doesn't take itself too seriously.  However It does deal with anxiety and self-confidence and all of that, so there are serious moments.

My best comparison in terms of tone is I'm trying to go for the Marvel movie feel.

In terms of actual plot, the story centers around Lucas, a 25 year old office worker, who, after an accident at his workplace involving a secret experiment, begins to investigate the cause. This worries his friends Kyle and Penny, who don't want him to get hurt. Eventually he stumbles upon a conspiracy involving a sinister but mysterious crime lord, The Navy, and a mutated man who survived the accident. Now Lucas has to become the "Action Guy" (A name he came up with himself, that people laugh at) to stop the villains before they can destroy the city.

Its still a work in progress but that's the basic plan!

That sounds awesome, but it's also going to be really tough because screenplays need a lot more formatting and editing requirements than writing something like a book. I was going to try once, but all the things like exteriors were so difficult and time consuming.

jabun72 : Where did you end up with this thing?  I know you only posted a bit ago but do we have a chance to start reading and seeing the format for the screenplay?  Can you at least give us an idea of what you're creating so we can see and understand the development?

I have a friend who writes screenplays for competitions and I review his work as an editor.  I'd love to see what you have to see how it jives with his formatting and the expectations companies have when reviewing screenplays for sale.

If you're just writing for yourself, that's cool too and I'd still love to read what you created.  You've given us a highlight of it but how about some actual content?

alright so a bit of an update: I haven't been working on it due to school getting in the way. I have been incredibly busy and I keep putting it off, however I do plan to continue working on it soon. Thanks!

I know how much time these take--my father wrote screenplays for Marvel Comics way back in the day (1970's would probably be the prime of his career). I would love to see where you're going with this. Hopefully you finish, finding motivation to persevere with such projects can be difficult. Thankfully, summer vac. is approaching and that should give you some time to grind out some material!
