I was looking at the FF games and noticed some weird connections, the most obvious of that was the connection between the names of the main girls.

FF 1: There is no main girl... the characters are technically genderless. Although the most important female character would probably be the Princess Sarah.
FF 2: Maria
FF 3: (Remake only) Refia
FF 4: Rydia & Rosa
FF 5: Lenna/Reina & Sarisa/Salsa (Faris)
FF 6: Terra
FF 7: Tifa
FF 8: Rinoa
FF 9: Sarah (Garnet/Dagger)
FF 10: Yuna
FF 11: No main characters
FF 12: Ashelia
FF 13: Lightning (Real Name Unknown... but probably ends with an a or a sound)

Has anybody else noticed any odd connections between the games?

All names end with an /a/ sound.

No, I'm asking if others have noticed any other odd connections between the Final Fantasy games similar to the one with the girls names. I wan't to know the not so obvious trivia, the stuff a person wouldn't notice right of the bat.

I know this has most likely been done to the death, but I don't know why it isn't taken more seriously.
For one, the name of the game itself, "Final Fantasy". People have long been bemused as to why it's called "Final" but yet there is more than one. The logical explanation would be that they are all part of the same fantasy.

There is a very possible connection between III and VIII. [1]. Then there's the instance in FFVIII when Gilgamesh appears out of a void (like The Void in Final Fantasy V) and there is a hint in the dialogue that he is the same Gilgamesh in FFV (I've forgotten what the dialgoue is, it's something to do with an "inter dimensional rift")

Then there's the interview with Nojima [2] where he himself says there's a connection between FFX/X-2 and VII. Of course, there are holes in his connection, but it's interesting that the scenario writer of these games who say that himself.

Then there's I and IX, where it is possible that both Garland's are the same character (why else would Kuja be seen fighting him in Dissidia?)

Final Fantasy II has a character called Ricard Highwind, whose son is called Kain (who wants to be a Dragoon). In the DS version Final Fantasy IV, Kain Highwind says that his father's name was Ricard.

Its called Final Fantasy because the first game was the make or brake game for Squaresoft.
As a company they were not doing well, and they had everything riding on that one game.
If it hadnt of done well it was to be the final fantasy game they would make, hence the title.
But it did immensly well and revived their company and the name has stuck ever since.

The most obvious link, every FF game has a Cid character if I recall.
And yeah, FF9's Garland is probally the same guy.
