Funny. My school has blocked EVERY SINGLE search engine, every single e-mail service (What about sending info to yourself if the printer is broken?) and about 3/5 of all information sites (Including wikipedia and howstuffworks)
I can't believe this! Why do they have to block EVERY single site? I can't do anything in my free periods, except for use Vizzed. The funny thing is that FireFox is blocked because it has ads. (WTF?! BLOCKED BECAUSE OF ADS. THAT IS RETARDED.) Who else has a school block/bunch of school blocks that is really stupid. Post em here. (oh, and only vizzed works because it's a .php site, and I'm careful about letting my teachers see what sites I'm on.) Aside from the "no playing" rule nothing is blocked on our computers.
Blocking ain't really that common in swedish school as far as I know. Also: you could try to access sites trough proxies, this would probably get you in trouble if teachers found out though. I remember taking computer class in 01 back in high school and nothing that I could remember was blocked. I was going to school in Jeffersonville, New York at the time, but when I went to school in PA, probably ever single site was blocked.

Ben, they did the exact opposite:
They blocked VIZZED, and they are working on blocking another board I go on. They block YAHOO ANSWERS and YAHOO GAME NEWS but they keep the rest of the site up. They don't block much except for the main spots of enjoyment I surf the net on  oh well.

One reason why vizzed probably isn't blocked is because it's on it's own server and has it's very own IP. Most websites share an IP with like 150 other sites (and sometimes even more) and usually some of those sites can be adult content, gambling, etc.

I remember when they blocked all of the proxies on my school's server. I remember a boy crying during homeroom.
However, I think they should block stuff at my school. In my homeroom alone, the bandwidth used from running Halo trials on Local Access crashed the school's server. Two kids got banned from the computers and had to drop out of the technology magnet at our school when they got caught playing Halo after that. I think if there weren't dumb kids that cry over not being able to play Halo in the middle of the school day on the internet, blocks wouldn't be needed. However, I think they should block stuff at my school. In my homeroom alone, the bandwidth used from running Halo trials on Local Access crashed the school's server.
