This topic is not specific to pc's you have built, you can upgrade to another pre built pc and laptop.

Anyway, what's makes you considered upgrading your current pc. Is it due to its age, or you just simply want to next best piece of hardware to brag about. Upgrading your pc feels great.

When do you plan on upgrading your pc?

I have no plans to upgrade my pc anytime soon. For the most part my pc is still highly capable of doing what I need it to do. Maybe in 5 years I will consider an upgrade. In that time I'm sure my pc will start showing its age.

Probably sometime in Spring, I'm excited because my current one has been really slow lately, I don't know why.

I'm not 100% sure which one I'm getting yet, but I think it's 7.

I do not plan on upgrading because mine are pretty new. I got mine in 2023. I tend to hold on to my PC as long as I can. I had a 2014 Dell that lasted 9 years. But it was starting to cause me trouble. I had it worked on a few times, but it was time for me to get a new PC. Therefore, I do not plan on upgrading anytime soon

I've reduced the usage of my PC recently, so my current one already works well enough. It is very slow in booting up, but otherwise works good and runs everything I need.

The thing is it's about to turn 8 years old this summer, so it could be time to start finding a new one and have a possible replacement for it should it fall victim to its age. I have no need to renew it just yet, and I hope it can last for a good while like this because transferring all the data will be a pain in the ass.

Does a new case and changing the CPU cooler to a liquid-cooled one count as an upgrade? If so, probably in the next couple months. The last upgrade I did was a major overhaul that can get a lot hotter than before. I didn't upgrade to liquid cooling, and I would like to remedy that before summer. My room that my PC is in doesn't have great cooling thanks to central air not working for some reason, so I need to find a better way to keep it cooler so I don't mess it up.
Honestly, if anyone has any good PC cases or liquid coolers, I am willing to take suggestions. I have an i5-13600k CPU, so it needs to support LGA1700. I would prefer an ATX size case since that is the motherboard size I have.

well here's the thing, after the magnet incident happened things were good as new but then the computer acted up that same December, and when I got it back they said the motherboard may be screwed and they gave it about 6 months, however that was back in 2022, and it's July of 2024 right now so either I am doing a better job at keeping this thing healthy (with just one Blue screen incident happening back in August of last year) things seem to be okay

Besides I was also taught to use something until it can't be used anymore

Well, I said I did not plan on upgrading. But I am now married. Me and my wife are thinking about getting a desktop computer for our desk. I still have my laptop so I do not plan on getting a new laptop. But I think a desktop would be great. Me and my wife could get us a printer to go with it. In addition, the screen would be large. So yeah a desktop is in my future.

Right now I'm still just using a simple Mac book but I do think I want to upgrade to something better just for the purpose of being able to play more Steam games. Many of the games I want to play don't run on Mac at all which was what made me buy the steam Deck in the first place. I paid a lot for my Mac book so I Wasn't planning on upgrading for a while but it's now been nearly five years Since I got it, so I might plan on upgrading this year or next year if I can find something cheap and small enough to fit on my desk.

I've not really thought about upgrading as I've never been a pc gamer but if I had to guess probably in 5 or so years when this one starts to lose it's ability to run things well enough.

Whenever I have money tbh, I would like to get a newer Surface Pro, since I've had mine for 5 years now (got it in 2020), and that thing is slow, only 4 GB of RAM, and 1 GHz of CPU.

Short answer: When I need to. I built my PC in 2020 and I haven't changed any of the parts since then. It still works great, so why would I? I don't plan on replacing or upgrading anything until I feel like I need to in order for it to perform effectively.

I got my computer just a couple years ago and I don't see any reason I'd have to upgrade again for the foreseeable future. It's got an RTX 4090 in it and from the looks of things focuses are shifting to AI now which I don't really care about so chances are I should be able to play most new games for the next decade or longer. Unless something absolutely crazy happens I see no reason to bother upgrading.

I was considering upgrading my gpu for awhile now, but honestly, the market for it today is absolute crap right now. Nvidia has officially lost their minds. Stagnate gpu performance this generation, and they want to you pay 100% more than the previous gen. AMD only released the RX 9070 XT, and while it looks enticing, they're sold out. I'm not paying scalpers $500 more than msrp for one.

I need an upgrade, mainly from my CPU, I have a (getting old) Ryzen 5 5600x. It still runs pretty well, but I can see signs of it slowing down.

I won't be doing it soon, since that is an expensive task and it still runs good enough at the moment. I would like to upgrade my 3060ti, but I don't see that happening for a few more years.

During the course of 2026 I think I'll be upgrading parts a few at a time. I'm due for a new PSU upon my next paycheck and have been some eyeing some deals for a while now. Once that's done, the unfortunate next part will be the fun part... I need a better CPU, but that requires upgrading my motherboard as my current one is very old, and thus my CPU is already at the very tippy top of the socket that this current motherboard supports. And if I'm getting a newer motherboard then I'm THEN going to be forced to upgrade to DDR5 RAM... and we all know how that's going to go.

Fortunately I've been seeing that Microcenter has some decent combo deals on these three, and although I'd have to take a hit from 64 GB of RAM down to 32 GB, that's something I can upgrade in the far future - 64 GB is still excessive these days I'd say and I can certainly make 32 GB work, especially considering the fact I'm pretty happy sticking to 1440p.

The last part will be getting a new GPU. I'm not solid on my pick just yet, but most likely going for the shared performance point of either an RX 9070 XT or 5070Ti, as I'm pretty happy sticking to 1440p (and, related to thread, am likely going to get an OLED high refresh rate QHD monitor soon). The decision will probably just come down to whichever one I see a better deal for first - I've been camping out some of those deal alert sites / apps to get notifications, and although I know the GPUs are going to be very competitive and sold out within hardly a minute or two, it's not my first rodeo with this kind of thing. I won over my current 3070 for near-MSRP during the worst GPU price hike, I am confident that I can manage to do it again here.
