Mario in Underwhere Furret
Hey y’all, I’m back with another review. Today I’ll be reviewing Super Paper Mario, a platforming / semi RPG game that was released for the Nintendo Wii in 2007. It’s the third installment in the famous Paper Mario franchise. Although you could also say infamous due to the games that came after this one *shivers*.The original Paper Mario for the N64 as well as its sequel Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door for the Gamecube were strictly RPGs (and great ones at that). One would expect that the next game would follow suit, right? Well we were all wrong. While this game retains some aspects of an RPG, it’s really more of a side scrolling platformer. Not a regular 2D one though. The core mechanic of this game is its 3D mode, a mode you can enter while playing through a world in order to dodge the paper thin enemies or get past seemingly impossible obstacles. The catch is that you’ll only have a few seconds before Mario starts taking damage. Understandable as skipping every enemy would be a bit overpowered, wouldn’t it?Another major difference compared to the previous game is the lack of partners. Well, sort of. In the first two Paper Mario games you would encounter some characters along your journey like a female Goomba from the University of Goom or a Paratroopa who works as a mailman. These characters would help you in your journey by giving you enemy stats, blowing up walls, carrying you over a deep pit, etc. In this game however you will encounter tiny geometric shapes called Pixls instead. They carry over some of the powers that previous partners have, but overall have next to no dialogue which makes them rather lame in my opinion.With that out of the way, let’s get on with the review!Graphics - 10/10This might be a high score for some given how almost all the characters in the game are made of geometric shapes that awkwardly stick together. I find this to be a very unique and charming art style. In any other game I would’ve probably felt a bit disappointed when it came to character design, but it somehow fits with the whole paper theme and the overall charm of the game. The worlds you play through are also beautifully designed, ranging from pretty looking grass fields to a scary underworld. A personal favorite of mine when it comes to graphics.Sound - 9/10Paper Mario games tend to have awesome soundtracks, and this one is no exception. I did find the music in this game to be slightly worse than in the first two games. Maybe it is because of the awkward look of some places and characters. The music by itself is still great but comparing it to the music in the previous installments, those fit so much better to what was going on in their respective story. Again, that’s a minor complaint for an otherwise great soundtrack. Depth - 6/10Alright, I hate giving this game such a low score but I have to be honest. Aside from the main story, there really isn’t that much you can do. The after game contains almost solely of the Pit of 100 Trials, a challenge where you have to go through 100 floors filled with enemies, and beat the boss at the end, all in one sitting. It can take a while to complete and the main story is rather long, but that doesn’t excuse the lack of things to do in general.Addictiveness - 8/10This game had its ups and downs for me. Some chapters of the story, like the Underworld one, I was so invested in that I swore I was going to beat the game all in one long sitting. Then there were others, like the one where you actually become a slave and have to do manual labor, that made me want to stop playing for the day. Overall it definitely had more ups and looking back at everything I always found myself having fun playing, even when I felt like taking a break :PDifficulty - 7/10The fact that this game doesn’t function as an RPG like the previous two means that battles are a lot more quicker and action paced, but that doesn’t make them more difficult. The enemies in this game are a joke for the most part and there are certain Pixls and even a certain playable characters that make you feel like you’re playing on easy mode. The original two games had boss fights in which you really had to think of the optimal strategy to beat them while also maintaining your health and FP by blocking their powerful attacks. In this game boss fights tend to be rather easy and straightforward as soon as you learn their patterns. I didn’t find the lower difficulty to be that bad but it was definitely noticeable.Story - 10/10It all starts of so normal. The first thing you see when starting the game is the wedding ceremony of Peach and Bowser! They exchange their vows and… Wait what? Why are they getting married and who is this creepy Dracula looking dude? Suddenly Mario- wait no, LUIGI comes to the rescue as he somehow manages to both save the day AND screw everything up even more. It’s honestly impressive. After this the cutscene ends and we’re thrown back in the past to Mario, who just got word that Princess Peach has been kidnapped (again)! Finally using some logic, he skips all 8 worlds in the Mushroom Kingdom and heads straight to Bowser’s castle to take her back. Only to find … well … Bowser, about to head out to kidnap the Princess. Wait, he wasn’t the culprit? All of a sudden the Dracula looking dude, named Count Bleck, shows up and kidnaps everyone in the castle, except for Mario for some reason. Mario then wakes up to find the Pixl Tippi talking to him. He gets sent to a remote town in between dimensions where he’ll meet the magical wizard Merlon. He explains to Mario that in order to save the world he’ll need to collect 7 Pure Hearts, as well as meet up with 3 legendary heroes. Can Mario save the world before its eventual demise? I found the story in this game to be absolutely fantastic, with tons of plot twists and humor all flowing together very well. This game also has one of the best villains in video game history in my opinion.Overall - 8.3/10That feels like a good score. The game is often criticised for not being like its two predecessors, but if you look past that you’ll find a game that’s truly unique and fun. It’s a different style of gameplay for sure but it still fits well in the Paper Mario franchise. It has its flaws for sure, but a lot of people can still mutually agree that it is the last good Paper Mario game.Thanks for reading this review, feedback is always appreciated!I’m out! *enters 3D mode*

Heroic Plumber's new journey....being flopped in between dimensions" sonicthehedgeho..
Darkness....Destruction...Revenge! All of which are words we've heard countless times throughout the Mario and Paper Mario series; until, you reach this final (system) addition to this wonderful folding on the edges of gaming styles. A story that starts off like any other...this time; however, beginning with a wedding ceremony and let's just say the bride and groom certainly shall surprise your shining shell. After a certain dispute within the festive event a certain character decides to pop into the show, that our heroic plumber in red has never seen before in the fungus land. Mysterious and troubling this supposedly wicked man makes all of the fancy mustache man's best friends away leaving him alone in some strange world, only to be awakened by a vibrant butterfly (almost robotic) looking figure whom asks why he's come here.
Shortly afterwards becoming quiet from hearing word of the person he'd met at the reception leaving the last words to be: "you must follow me if you want to return this world to peace and help your friends". Adjusting his cap and rubbing his mustache, the koopling smasher decides to join our new friend on an adventure; but, what about her words and tone? She sounded almost sad and broken over what she'd hear about this new foe, how can that be and....why do the words Timpani and Blumeir ring across the origami skies of this land with such a depressing and heart-breaking tone? Only one way to find out *flips into 3-D view* we need to take a look at this new adventures from many different perspectives! So what are you waiting for? We've got to head out and find our friends in this crafty world!

/_Paper filled mache brought to a whole new world of flipping and flopping_
/_ Throughout the past decades we've seen this series grow, as such it become more distinct in the way the paper like areas/fields appear to the characters and even our own eyes, for example: if you were to compare Flower Fields, Creepy Steeple, and World 1-1 of this game you'll notice is that in each one of the levels I mentioned. The graphics had went from being: Simple, to more refined, all the way to indistinguishable between a normal 3-D game and a paper imagined one like before. Which shows how nicely of a job the creators of this game had done; but, I can see that you're edges are drooling with curiosity wondering what I could possibly mean? Well what's life without a little exploration I say, sure let's get to some examples now! _/
_______
|___|-Flopside -____/
|_| Here is where our journey begins shortly after a folded out story from a creative new book, now having been thrown into an alternate world where dimensions don't just lie on one simple plain; But, instead must be seen from left to right and (after flipping into 3-D) front to back. It's similar in looks to the ancient style of Rougeport Sewers (remains of the old town) mixed with an technologic tone, with the elevators having flashing red arrows on them signifying how much each world this plumber has visited has grown immensely from previous adventures. This is one place you'll be visiting and seeing again from all different angles alongside with new friends and foes.

{_} ~ohhh.....OHHHH...OHHHHHHHHHH MA-MA MIA! *8 bit death sound* |Sonic x9| umm...Sorry about that
toadstool viewers but my gosh < 3 < 3 if any of you are from the 1980's~90's time period then you'll understand my reaction to talking about this level. Because it creates so many great memories and fun adventures of the past; bit-a tronic type flooring, and skies from something you may have seen in Yoshi's Island or NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) Mario Games which like many games you may go back and play it gives you that feeling of being a child once more and I love that < 3 let's just say this section can get pretty interesting and hilarious at some parts! Especially if you understand word and/or scenery humor *cough Chuggaconroy cough* also, if you loved the T.E.C scenes in the previous game you'll love one part in here with Princess Peach and a certain person/enemy name Francis.
I think those two are great enough to hold you off and take a closer look into what they game is like as I don't want to expand this view of the areas too long otherwise the word count would be longer than anything viewpoint in the 3-D view of the game. So my score for graphics is a 9 out of 10 here.
!! "A somewhat average soundtrack mixed with nostalgic memories" !!
2001....A game with paper not peeking most peoples imagination but shocking and folding our imaginations, into something we'd never heard or seen before....2004 ~ Our favorite tossed down series because of the title returns with a darker plot and story; and yet, it still retains the same pleasant sound that we fell in love with 3 years ago...2007 ~ It's been a long journey but it's time to flop our minds back into the origami type land we've grown fond to after such a large stretch in years; but, will it live up to the older classics? With the 10th anniversary of this series getting closer in sight how about we take a peak at this music and sound effects!
*** ~8 bit characters~ ***
If the idea of the bitlands didn't peak your interest before, then I can bet this song will at least put a smile on your face. I'm sure everyone remembers that intense feeling of seeing a star appear from a hidden block or *?* block from the NES/SNES days and just feeling so strong inside knowing you can't be touched. In this game though, they decided to take a new approach with bringing back the star; however, they definitely nailed that idea out of the Mushroom (Ball) Park ! As right when you collect that shining yellow beauty, then you're immediately greeted by the remix yet familiar tune our ears welcomed so kindly in our youth as power and new found courage. Seeing our outline of our past 8-bit selves being drawn out with the ability to smash anything in our path with relative ease just feels so great alongside hearing that wonderful remixed old tune. Certainly a song worth taking in your heart and mind for years to come!
< 3 < 3 | Promise | < 3 < 3
Promise is a word many of us have used several times in our lives...both young and old, even to the point that some people put the word to use each day, vowing that they'll keep to it over anything else in their daily life. Such a lovely tale when you think about it and fate would have it that two characters past from within this story had made this exact word come true in their life with a promise of love < 3. Picturing the blue sky above their heads underneath a greenleaf ridden tree with that melodic, symphonic, and peaceful tone inside this melody. A man and woman grown together by love, thrown out/cast aside by family saying their loved on is improper; but, still maintaining the cheerful and loving atmosphere with them everywhere at that time! So that's this song; however, I'm sure it's hard to believe from just words so I'll "promise" you that if you listen to this at a dark time and think about what you love...this song will make things bright again!

```````````````````````````
Afterlife...Revival...Peace, this place represents all three of those meanings creating what I feel as both a sad/scary/and happy little world. The best way to explain this world would be to imagine a heaven like area with angelic type souls whether it's human or animal souls. This area where the music played is personally my favorite in the entire game just the fact that after having saved this specific area from anymore destruction, reuniting family members, and creating peace in this land. Giving you a calming harmony with an added operatic type voice in the background with the music just makes it so perfect, especially if you go back here after completing the game...just the nice and simple theme makes it so great to end with before you shut the system off. Another great job on this games music track!
So that's where I'll have to end this section off, the sound effects are mostly similar to "Thousand Year-Door" so there's not really much to say here about that but I'll leave my score here with a nice but not perfect 8 out of 10.
/_ - Not as great from past games, but better looked at from a different perspective|_|
Ok, I'll be the first to admit when I saw this game in a box on a shelf in walmart I figured 0.0 < 3 ooooh ANOTHER Paper Mario game I wonder if this'll be better than Thousand Year Door? Doing more research on it I came upon the fact that though it was still partially an RPG all the battle elements from before were gone, acting more so like the original SNES/N64 styles where you'd jump or throw something at enemies to damage opponents. This was...very disappointing to me to say the least since I was such a huge fan of the way Nintendo had implemented the RPG fighting style into this game that was different from Super Mario RPG which I don't prefer as much over the original style. ALTHOUGH! I DID give this game a chance and bought it to see how it was and though I was initially disappointed this was actually REALLY fun when you don't focus on the other 2 games and just think of it as it's own game. Basically this top segment is more of a description of what to expect at the beginning but now let's get into some nice and sweet examples of what I mean shall we?
Though this isn't turn based anymore it's still fun to defeat enemies and in a sense is easier to dodge attacks by jumping over/flipping/or some other trick to avoid projectile attacks. One thing to note is that you DO have partners in this game like the previous entry and the only real difference from the last game is that these partners are more so like the very original entry into this series since they yield no HP. What makes this game so addictive similar to the last is the "Story" of this game as I feel it's just as dark as the monstrous thousand year door shadowy figure; although, the story being a completely different style than before instead of another ancient tale. The best thing about this game as you can probably tell is being able to switch between a 2-D side-scroller to a first person 3-D kind of perspective making this a 2.3D game (I guess) which does add some nice sense of style to the game making sure you flip here to see if this is where you need to go or to find secrets which will help you along the way, which
personally I enjoy a lot since it's another thing to get your brain thinking if you're stuck on a puzzle. There's lovable characters, a great story, and so much more to find but if I tell you all that what's left to hook you in :P. My score for the addictiveness is an 8 out of 10.
O~/--~O_______A tragic past leading to an apocalyptic future________ </3 / <>
Love...the feeling that many of us yearn for in this lonely cold world, a soft and warm feeling that when it's been connected once it can never be severed again...at least that's what we like to believe; but, then we have disdain in our lives...the fact that whom we love may not settle well with others in the family or just personal friends/co-workers. Leading into our past events as we travel throughout this game, as story of two loved one torn apart by one person due to the disdain for their partner, from those tragic events it leads us into the devastation that we see in our present time.
Believable or not this story begin with a wedding ceremony with a King Koopa and lovely princess, but half way through it is ruined and interrupted with Mario's appearance to the aisle half-way into this fight they're both stopped by a strange man only referring to himself as "Bleck" Having the marriage already taken place even if it wasn't complete caused a dimensional vortex to open up in this world throwing everyone from this even into a strange and mysterious world known as "Flipside" once down here we can see the vortex in the back meaning it's not only deleting the Mushroom Kingdom...it's trying to do the same to this world as well!
During this mystery we find an injured pixelated butterfly figure laying before us in agony, once having seen the vortex above she knew what had to be done was to find the Pure Hearts in order to close it so she commands us between different worlds and time to ensure the success of this mission and defeat the "vile" Count Bleck as she calls him....however, this seems strange that she only knew about this person from a few minutes ago so how could she know if he's vile or not? Also when we're not listening well this figure named Tippi as well as Bleck seem to recall certain names: "Timpani and Bleumire" what could be going on here? What will happen to this world, will Bleck's plan to destroy this world work out for taking the thing he loved away? Sadly the only way to figure that out is to fold open the sides of this game disc and play it for yourself, with such a unique and interesting plot the story like the others gets a 10 out of 10.
<----Turning the pages of this long and twisted material world/---->
Depending on how you define each one of the chapters in this series this can either be the exact same in length to the others or it could be longer since before the games just ran by chapters (Prolouge~8) usually and it'd just be one HUGE area that you'd travel to and from in order to gain access to later areas; however, in this game you still have 8 chapters like before except that this time each chapter is split up into segments for example: "World 1-2, World 8~4, and World 2~3" making it similar to the classic Super Mario Bros games. Adding that all up with Plumber teaches Math" we get a total number of 32 levels in 8 worlds! Now you must keep in mind these segments are shorter than what you would expect from the original Paper Mario or its sequel but each world has 4 mid-chapters you could say I guess? If you look at it that means you'll get more mid-points in one chapter meaning more gameplay that can be finished at one time or a HUGE level which can take longer to surpass but will contain a lot more places to adventure around in.
By the way this game can also resemble Super Mario Bros 2 in some ways since you can play as: The man in red ~ Mario, The fierce hider with green in his face ~ Luigi, The pink lady of fungus world ~ Peach and...and TOAD right :D ...nope just the spikey shelled hot head Bowser so that can add alot of creativity to the game being able to switch between these 4 as each has their own unique abilities for you to figure out.
There are also a few more things that you can do when finishing this super paper filled land; but, sadly it doesn't leave as much as the second entry did. Even with this though there are still a few things you can do though when reaching the completion of Count Bleck's terror such as:
* Going into the Pit of 100 trials in Flipside and/or Flop side ~ Yes this area is back from Thousand Year Door and this time you get two versions of this fighting pit of doom as I like to say, both of which contain rewards from completing them one you may consider worth the hard effort and the other extremely worthwhile unless you want a challenge. So get hunting if you wish :P
* Finding other party members that have been *quote on quote* hidden in levels and not gained through normal gameplay like you would expect, some of which being extremely helpful or just there for show and fun to have which is still a nice addition!
*Exploring the areas that you've beaten throughout the rough adventure of peril's seeing how things have turn out, my personal favorite it to go to area 7-4 and once you reach the end of the level you'll meet the two guardians like before only this time a certain character will rejoin them back there :3 what could that be? I'll never say that :P unless you journey and have a good time for yourself.
There is quite alot for you to explore so if you're looking for another adventurous filled folding adventure then this game isn't that bad of a choice leaving alot to explore but lacking in the eyes of it's predeccesor. Leaving the score here at a surprising 9 out of 10!
/=_= Like one would expect from paper....falls flat on some areas =_=/
As this segment title would suggest, this games level of difficulty at points has reach Mt. Parchment Shamu due to the fact that it's no longer a turn-based based RPG and more a 2D~3D sidescroller like Mario 64 mixed with Super Mario Bros. 2 so don't expect that much of a tough fight from bosses and enemies since usually their is a trick or advantage (both fair and unfair) that you may use to your advantage against these foes....(and good that you have bowser so you can blame your mischevious behavior on him). Normally I would end this up on a 3 out of 10 right now since there isn't much to say but one thing I will bring up that wrecks my crumbled up mind is when you complete the Flopside pit of trials...you may think it's going to be all fine and dandy until these lines are read "You seem to be strong but lack real evidence to prove your good enough to meet me, if you really want to prove yourself worthy *pipe appears* go through here and do this all over again then I'll let you pass" after seeing that message when beating the area my heart rate heated up worse than Wario's garlic toxic toushie maker.
So make sure you come in here equipped and ready to go, conserving your items until the second round otherwise you could end up with 1hp and lose very quickly forcing you to do it twice again. Other than that you can't say much about the difficulty other than I think it should've been raised if they were going to do it in a different style but sadly as much as it may feel like a poison shroom to my gut I must give this section only a 4 out of 10 for difficulty.
Here we are...at the pit of this vortex and even with how we try we can only hope that these pure hearts can truly bring back the heart of the demon before us.....the same demon whom had his heart ripped out by the one whom had stolen his love away from him turning him into a creature seeking only despair and revenge. Can this world be saved our will it be lost alongside the heroic plumber forced to join the terror and sadness from years before. Will the truth behind these mysterious characters known as: Timpani and Bleumier be solved with this resolution? There's only one way to find out *releases pure hearts and charges towards Count Bleck* This chaos must be stopped now!!!
Saving the World... One Love at a Time~ Snu
Love is a powerful force. It causes us to hike across mountains, sing songs thousands of times, and create horrible poetry all for the sake of that significant other. However, there's a darker side to it as well. It can make you destroy worlds, rob others of their happiness, and make you do many other unspeakable things.
Pardon? What does this have to do with Super Paper Mario? Well! Love is a very prominent theme in this game! Right from the opening sequence where Peach and Bowser are forcefully married for a very grim purpose (not that Bowser minds, of course). Yes, it is definitely present in many places and forms throughout the game, even if it isn't fully apparent in the beginning. From brotherly love, to family love, to your typical couple love and everything in between.
But enough rambling. Let's look a little deeper at what this story has to offer us.
Graphics 9/10When a game has unique graphics like this, it's hard to try and compare them to another game. The closest you can get is with the prequel, The Thousand Year Door. Even then, the developers went for a slightly different approach. The big thing is that the paper feel is almost completely gone. Super Paper Mario still borrows from the 2D character designs of the previous two games, but the background is more reminiscent of a flat cartoony background than a full on 3D background. Unless of course, you flip into 3D. For whatever reason, the backgrounds look more fleshed out when you flip. All that aside, it still looks wonderful, though it's nothing too special.
The characters themselves look so much better too, with brighter colours and smoother animations.
The items are a bit subpar. They're easy to tell apart, but they're pixel-y.
Speaking of, the pixl partners actually look awesome. All that's ever visible are the coloured outlines and eyes(bar Tippi), yet somehow they rarely ever blend into the background. This creates a cool mini visual style for them, and them alone.
Sound 8/10Okay, I realize I gush over nearly every game soundtrack ever, but I REALLY love the soundtrack for Super Paper Mario. It's a fun, bouncy classical style with a huge amount of synthesized instruments and a few complex harmonies here and there. It gets you pumped up and has you humming along later. Other than a few key tracks, most of the stage songs sound similar, sadly, because they all use such a similar style. However, the character and event themes are better at differentiating themselves and are fairly catchy and fitting at the same time.
As for boss battles, BOY HOWDY these are amazing. They're fast paced (except for I'm not Nice) energetic songs that hold a darker tone to them that almost tells you that they aren't to be trifled with.
However, every song in the game has only one volume: loud. Nearly every one of them is very loud and in your face. They don't provide much for atmosphere and most of them are more focused on being heard.
Don't worry, though. Two of my favourite songs would have to be Castle Bleck and The Underwhere because they're some of the few songs that focus on atmosphere. Both Castle Bleck and the Underwhere take a darker route very befitting of their settings with a slower pacing and a lower pitch. Despite this, they do still sound different. The Underwhere is surprisingly catchy and easy going considering, again, the setting where it plays. Castle Bleck, however, adds more tension and plays up the serious atmosphere. Both sort of tell you, "Hey! You're not in Chapter 1 anymore."
As for the sound effects, they're okay. They're a bit out there, but they work. A lot of them trail off in this weird way where they'll start off high and then go to a low pitch, particularly when flipping. The jumping sound effects are very bland and forgettable, as is the hammer sound effect. In fact other than the aforementioned flipping sound they all sound very bland.
Addictiveness 5/10For an RPG, there really isn't a whole lot to do outside of the story. There's card collecting (tricky, but plenty of cards can be found around the worlds), the TWO Pits of 100 Trials (One gets you a pixl and if you complete the second one TWICE you can flip to 3D for an infinite amount of time.), and then there's treasure hunting (you can buy maps and everything).
Other than that, there's only a grand total of one sidequest and it's for a pixl that serves very little use and is in no way ever necessary.
Not very much when you compare it to other RPGs, even if it is technically a 2D Platformer.
However, with all that said and done, the game takes a while to get addicting. It doesn't pick up until an hour or so in, where there's a bit more challenge and new abilities. Even then, the game really tries it's hardest to suck you in when the story picks up, which is roughly half way through the game. All in all, there's not a whole bunch to come back to when the game's done, even though what is there is time consuming.
Depth 4/10Super Paper Mario is a simple game to control. You hold the wiimote sideways for most of the game and press 2 to jump and perform simple actions like talking, 1 to use your current pixl, - to bring up the controls, + to bring up the menu, and 1 and 2 together to quickly change your character, pixl, or use an item. You can also press A while you're Mario to flip from 2D to 3D and vice versa. Moving is fairly self explanatory, however you can press down to do special things like use a shield or breathe fire depending on which character you are, which is neat. On top of that, you can use your guide, Tippi, by pointing at the tv screen to either tattle on different things or find hidden objects like stairs or doors.
As for gameplay, it's simply a platformer in nearly every sense of the word, though the enemies often take more than one hit to die and you do have Hit Points. You run, jump, and flip your way to the end of every segment, where you then hit a Star Block and continue on to the next one. Every chapter has four segments and your goal in each chapter is to get a Pure Heart in order to stop the worlds from dying.
Story 8/10Super Paper Mario has a wonderful story, even for a Mario RPG.
First off, if you stick around for the pre-title screen opening, you'll be treated to a strange scene. This strange shadowy person dressed in a snazzy white cape, top hat, and monocle is currently acting as minister to Bowser and Peach's wedding. Yes, you heard right! Bowser and Peach are getting married! However, Peach is not liking this, and refuses to say her vows until the shadow person (Count Bleck) gets one of his minions, Nastasia to brainwash her into saying yes. This ominously causes a large grey heart to rise up. Meanwhile, Luigi wakes up from among a crowd of Bowser's minions and sees the heart. Getting a bad feeling, he jumps in and hops on the heart. This causes it to rumble and the screen fades away. And that's just an optional little cutscene!
So, once you actually start up the game, the story starts off before the opening scene with Peach getting kidnapped. The Mario Bros., assuming Bowser's the culprit again, march up to his castle to take her back. As it turns out, he was just about to kidnap her, but hadn't headed out yet!
Instead, the nefarious Count Bleck kidnapped her so that his plan could succeed. He then knocks Mario out and kidnaps everyone else in the castle.
Later, Mario wakes up to a little rainbow fairy calling for him to wake up. The fairy, a Pixl named Tippi, takes you to a space in between dimensions called Flipside and introduces you to yet another Merlon.
As it turns out, wedding an evil king and a benevolent princess creates something called a Chaos Heart, which will destroy all worlds. In order to save the worlds, Mario must gather three more heroes and collect the seven pure hearts scattered throughout dimensions.
What I like about the story is that there's some really interesting plot twists here. The foreshadowing is a bit of a mixed bag, though. On one hand, the events that they foreshadow become extremely obvious over time. However, the writers appear to know that, so they never outright state the truth until the very end. They don't sidetrack on a big monologue about these things either. Therefore, you know what's going on without them having to say much about it, and that's pretty cool.
Difficulty 6/10Super Paper Mario is sort of weird with it's difficulty, like most Mario games. It starts off brain-numbingly easy with all the enemies offering little to no resistance and the way is super linear in order to get you used to the new play style. Then it starts climbing up steadily and at a nice pace right up until Chapter 7, where they way to go is incredibly confusing and a lot of backtracking will be needed on your first play through unless you have a guide. Then... THEN we get to Chapter 8... and man, oh man, does the difficulty go way up. The only real difficulty up to now was finding out where to go. HERE, the enemies are all of a sudden way tougher, and there's some tricky platforming as well. Don't forget to flip to 3D as Mario, because you'll need to do so a lot. The Final Boss as well is no push over. Attacks will fly everywhere, and the boss will not stand still and soak up hits. It's a serious difficulty spike from before, even more so than you would expect from a final confrontation.
Another thing to note is that there are some abilities that make this game way too easy, and they aren't even optional! Bowser has a whopping two times more attack than any other character, which is reasonable enough, right? However, he also has fire breath that can easily hurt enemies that walk into him (which most do). Again, not so bad. BUT if you combine him with a certain Pixl named Carrie, you can jump, move AND breathe fire at the same time, which breaks any difficulty most of the enemies would probably have. Even some bosses can be easily taken care of with this trick!
Things not covered above+ There's a fair bit of exploration you can do outside of the story, but it typically only gives you more coins, and there's plenty without those, even with some items costing a fair amount
+ This game puts up some great atmosphere. Chapter 6 in particular is mind blowing if you bother to think about it.
+ They give good personality to bad guys. Rather than just have them as regular old baddies, we get to see glimpses of what makes them tick, and why they're so bent on destroying the world.
-This game has too much unnecessary backtracking. Basically, you'll pass a point where you'll have to do something specific and you won't know it. You'll then have to backtrack and find out what to do to keep moving forward. It gets incredibly irritating very quickly.
In conclusion, Super Paper Mario may have been a big change from the rest of the Paper Mario games, but the change wasn't all that bad, and I actually wouldn't mind another one like this, especially if it has a great story like this one. I give it a nice little
7.5/10Thanks for reading~!
Here is my review for Super Paper Mario on the Nintendo Wii!
For a while, I am doing Newer games instead of older games.
This game is the third in the Paper Mario series!
and it is one of the rare games that do not take place in the Mushroom Kingdom!
Also, You can control 4 different people in the game as wll!
This is a Paper Mario game that is way off the topic.
Story: 10 The story is that a toad comes to Mario and Luigi's House and tells Princess Peach is stolen..... again.
Mario and Luigi then go to Bowser's Castle but it turns out Bowser did not steal her, but then a new villain named Count Bleck comes with Princess Peach and comes to suck Bowser, Luigi, and the whole army of Bowser's Troops.
Bowser and Princess Peach are then forced married by Count Bleck which creates a Chaos Heart to create a void that will destroy every world.
Mario then wakes up to see a butterfly named Tippi and takes him to Flipside where is most of the game will take place.
Then Mario set's off to find Bowser, Princess Peach. and Luigi to fight Count Bleck, along the way, they will need to collect Pure Hearts which will counteract the Chaos Heart.
But this game has a plot twist at the end. Count Bleck's Minion ( Dimentio ) Who takes the chaos heart from Count Bleck and brainwashes Luigi and combines The Chaos Heart, Luigi and Himself to create Super Dimentio and that is the final boss of the game.
Sound: 10 all I need to say is that this game has the best soundtrack in the Paper Mario Series! and that is it.
Depth: 5 The Controls are normal for wii games and the game isn't too hard but it is not too easy either.
Difficulty: 5 The game as said in Depth, is not too easy or too hard. There is a few puzzles as well.
Addictiveness: 10 This game is very long, but it is worth playing more than one time because there are also A Flipside and a Flopside Pit of 100 trials which you challenge yourself in 200 battles and 2 bosses at the end of each of them.
Graphics : 10 The world is away improved in quality but every wii game is like that so there is not much to talk about here.
Overall Score : 8 .3 The game is not too hard or too easy and is very long if you are doing the pits and everything else in the game
There is ( I forgot to mention. ) A cooking place where you could cook up your items and make them more powerful and / or do more than one thing at a time. There is two cooking places, one where you can cook one item, and another where you can cook two items into one as well. Also the most power dish is the Dyllis Deluxe
Coming up my next review, which is a surprise wii game! see you next time!
Super Paper Mario - The best story line a Mario game can have? MarioLucarioFan..
Hey, hey, hey guys. Today, i'll give you my review for Super Paper Mario, a game of which people think has a fantastic story line. It was made for the Nintendo Wii and made as a platformer game. Should i start? Yes? No? Yes, indeed? Okay, here i go.
Super Paper Mario is about the number one Nintendo character Mario, who has to save Peach from Bowser. But then comes a twist... Count Bleck comes in. He and his minions seem to be a new enemy, so there's only one option left: Save the Mushroom Kingdom and everything else before it's too late! As you gather the Pure Hearts, you also get several Pixl's join your side as your very own companions! And Peach will help you, as well as... Bowser? Yes, Bowser helps you as well! (Who thought Mario and Bowser were in a team?)
Graphics:
We probably already knew the creative and funny Paper Mario Style, but we aren't used to the fact that there isn't much that tells you everything is made from paper and carton. And instead, Nintendo used more triangles, squares, circles, etc. But not 3D shapes when you're in 2D-mode. Still, it looks pretty good. And if you look at the animations that are merged with the style, it's not very bad. I'll give this part 8 paper planes... uh... 8 points.
Sound:
'The Ultimate Show'. That's the name of the final boss soundtrack. That soundtrack and a bunch of other songs used for this game are incredible. Somehow, the music is great, and the sounds are great too... eh... I'm pretty bad at describing the sound and music, but i tried. If that part isn't good, sorry! :(
Addictiveness:
Because of the story (see 'Story') and while knowing and realizing how the story is, it's easy to play the game more just to find out what's so good with the story. I've been reading other reviews, and i too agree that some parts can be annoying, so that the game gets abandoned. Still, the game isn't so bad in that. Some stages, levels and bosses are easier than the other ones, so remember that. :D
Story:
A 10. No doubts.
[s]Depth: [/s]
No, i'll just go in the details for the story. I mean, the story is the best story Nintendo could make. (my opinion) The start is a twist, the middle part is surprising and the ending? I won't tell that. Preventing spoilers, obviously. :P But i can tell you the ending is a good one too.
Depth:
Though the game has 8 chapters, it takes a while to complete everything. Especially when we're talking about completing it 100%. But the longer it takes, the more you can do, am i right? Eh?... *ahem* It provides you a fair amount of hours to spend. Good luck completing it, if you got the game that is! :)
Difficulty:
I'll give this one a 6, basically because the bosses can be hard at some points but overall, it's a fair game in difficulty. The game gets harder anyway. So... There is that!
Overall:
I'll give this a 9,6 overall, basically because... The story! It contains an awesome story and its gameplay is stunning!
And that was this review so far. Sorry if it was only like 600 words or more, but i was in a hurry when typing 65% of it. Still, i tried my best to keep it detailed and properly. But, eh... Guys, i would totally recommend the game Super Paper Mario to you, it's worth a try!
And that was that. I would say, peace!
