As a teacher, I have a tolerable/hate relationship to fidget spinners. For those who don't know what they are, they are the latest fad that started at the end of last year.

They are basically 3 blade fans that can be held in the middle so that they can spin on your hands. Companies make them in different shapes and looks. Some light up. They are fast spinners with little friction. They are cool looking and different people around the country are using them for different things. Supposedly, they are created to help relieve stress and help people focus.

Here's the problem though, they have now become the very thing that people are losing focus when it comes to complete their tasks. Students would bring these to school and it is marketed as a way for them to stay focused in school so that their fingers would not fidget on other things, but the existence of these items make the student the main focus of other students and themselves. A kid having it out in the open on their hands would make other students talk about it, look at it, ask to try it, and then wanting to get one themselves. I would not have a problem with it if they were used in a low-key, under the desk, type of tool. But knowing some kids, they won't keep them down low.

Honestly, I don't think they are even doing what they are advertised to do. Waiting on new studies to make that proclamation.

What do you think? Are they helpful or a distraction? Should they be allowed in schools as long as people don't make a big deal about it? Or should they be banned from schools?

legacyme3 : This should be said without prompting: Huge congratulations in finishing your first year in college! It is not easy and it is not suppose to be easy, so you deserve to feel good about it and about yourself!

Use your summer well. Recharge. Rest. And when it is getting close to your new semester, plan ahead on how you should approach the new semester so that you can avoid some of the issues in the past.

Yeah because I was enforcing the fact that that name and his demeanor are terrible and unwholesome. The person having a problem with that further makes my point.

Is there a way to speed up that process in dealing with that?

What's up everyone! Some of the veterans of the site might remember me (or not. Not entirely sure how memorable my experience and contributions are to the site). For those of you who are newer who don't know me, I was more active on the site a couple of years ago. Still known as play4fun, no change on my alias. Lots of things have happened in my life and it has been full and busy, but life has been good and God is good no matter what. To sum it all up, I am continuing to teach the young peoplepersons the wonderful world of physics and have been enjoying it. I'm also in love with a ladyperson and she has brought me great joy and support in my life.

Am I going to be back regularly? No guarantees, as life still is busy. Some of you who have been more personal in our interactions continue to stay connected on other sites and avenues (Facebook, Steam) and I have "prank" chatted a couple of people from time to time as well. I will try to check out what's going on on this site more often and see if I am able to be of assistance, or simply join people's company in games or site activities.

Those of you who do remember me, tell me (on this thread or PM) what has changed or happened on the site? how has the community been lately? what has happened in your life, online or IRL? (or explain why I can't play certain games on Vizzed anymore even though I got the updated plugin?)

As usual, I continue to play for fun.

So there are names on my profile that said that I referred them to the site....here's the thing, I have never sent a referral link to anyone (yeah, it sounds bad that I don't refer people to this site, but that's just how I am) Anyways, there are users that went to me saying that I referred them to the site when I didn't, and I really don't want to associate their names onto my profile, not just because it's false, but also their names are......inappropriate, and that doesn't fly with me. Anyone able to help on how to get rid of those names? (or at least get rid of the association of me)

Global Mods : Maybe even ban those accounts as well?

Let me give a word of advice to those who are entering or are in college right now: Your major SHOULD NOT be about what job you want to enter. Your major is what you passionately and enthusiastically want to spend your four years of learning and concentrating. You are in a position to learn under professors of their field, you would want to take advantage of that opportunity on things that you want to learn. The enthusiasm and passion will drive you to succeed in that field.

When you said that you hate the field of English, that should be the clearest indication that you should not go into English. It doesn't matter if you are good at English. If you don't enjoy it, then it would affect your happiness throughout your college career, and even more so, in a job relating to English if you graduate with it.

In terms of your poor grades in those classes, college studies are definitely more about time management and drive than simply working hard studying your subject. Sometimes working hard is not enough for some of these classes, especially in the sciences when discipline is important. The two classes that you indicated are math and chemistry, which are required side classes but not the main classes for your major. The bigger question is how you are doing in your main biology classes. If those are a struggle as well, then you need to reexamine whether there are other things that are hindering your success in college, like time-management, discipline, or even if it is truly your passion. Speaking from experience (teaching physics to my high schoolers), I have students who are quite passionate about the knowledge of physics, but because they are so overwhelmed in their senior year with college level courses, extracurricular in band and sports, and family issues, that some of their tests results are below their expectations, missing questions that they would normally be able to answer during conversations.

For now, everyone else have suggested ways to improve upon your grades, like online study sites, videos, etc. This is especially true for science and math because they are so concrete, it's easy to make study guides and videos. If your college is small enough, have an appointment with your professor to discuss options is also a good idea. If you have good professors, they are there to help you. My personal suggestion is for you to know what misconceptions you have. You should be reflective from assessments and think what topics in these classes do you not understand, then focus on those topics and find a solution on how to correct that misunderstanding so that you can do it next time.

Dropping a class to retake it another year might be an option ONLY IF this is the only time you will use it and if deadline for dropping classes is still available. Dropping a class at this point of the year will leave a mark on your transcript, but 1 or 2 is ok. Having more than 1 semester of dropped classes will raise red flags for future programs.

Simply put, I think it's too early for you to think about switching majors unless you found something else that you are good at and that you have a passion for.

Something that people have to keep in mind is that this game is not a complete game. If you look at the version as of now, it is version 0.29.3. So it is basically a beta release of the game. Also, the developer spoke in Comic Con that they have only implemented about 10% of their ideas into the game so far. They are just dealing with the heavy stress of so many people logging onto the servers...and there's still more to countries to release the game. So this will continue to be an issue for quite a while.

But the popularity of this game is definitely predictable. Many people have been waiting for this since they were kids, to go, travel, find, catch, battle, trade pokemon. This game was set up without a lot of instructions, which makes players to form into a community of figuring out how to play the game and help each other tell people where a specific pokemon is spawning, even between different teams. They start off with the original 151, which many adults nowadays are familiar with and nostalgic with. Augmented reality technology is a cherry on top of being able to "see" pokemon in real life. All of these things make the game so popular and will continue to withstand for a couple of years, because we haven't seen everything yet. There are 700+ pokemon to date and they still have 90% of their ideas yet to be in the game.

The problem here is that I don't see anywhere that the premise is suggested to be true. So you may need to first talk about why you think God doing miracles is sinful. You also need to define what you mean by "miracles" because if you define miracles like how the Bible defines it, then you would be contradicting against the Bible because of all the descriptions of the signs and wonders that God did or lead his people to do.

I didn't have a problem with it storywise of him dying in this film. It kinda brought parallel to the original films when Ben Kenobi died. However, I didn't like how he died. It was very un-Han Solo like. No last cracks. No final act of heroism. And he just fell off the bridge with no one trying to get his body back or honor him as the former general of the Alliance.

manicman66 : The key phrase that I'm focusing on is "keep changing it to suit their liking at the time", which is not how scholars deal with Bible translation. Are there people who take out certain parts or books in the Canon to suit their theology? Yes, but that is not how most translations come to existence. Furthermore, those who truly study their Bibles don't just read the words on their translation. Many Bibles have concordances and dictionaries that explains more of the original Greek and Hebrew to bring out more of the meaning of the verse. Just reading the English words in the Bible will not be enough to understand scripture correctly.

lordbelial669 : The King James Version has both the Old Testament and the New Testament in it....in fact, most translations have the Old Testament and the New Testament, other than "Bibles" that intentionally take out books of the canon just to fit their beliefs (This has happened early on). What's amazing about the Bible is that it is translated to different languages for many different people to be able to read, but the methodology is to always start from the original language to translate to the appropriate language, so there is no significant differences between the common translations, but mostly on reading level of the text, word for word vs thought for thought translation style, or advancements in scholarly studies in ancient languages that makes them update the wording in the Bible. A reasonable Christian will not say that one translation is more right than the other to the point of causing hatred and wars, like you said. In fact, that is not even close to being a prominent reason for religious wars in history, due to differences in translations at least.

In fact, that is not even close to being a prominent reason for religious wars in history, due to differences in translations at least.

lordbelial669 : What are you talking about? Bibles that are in different languages are for different people to be able to read the same scriptures. They don't keep changing for their own liking.

Honored to see that I kept my title for "Wisest" and "Most Mature". I'm thankful for everyone who thinks that and benefits from it. Here's to another year!

He's basically been mocking everyone that he sees fit. It is no longer a surprise to any of us. It has been quite bonkers to me as to why he is the leading candidate in the Republican party. I don't think any sane person wants him to win and I think the reason why some people are voting for him is because they think the extreme going to the other side would be something of a change of scenery for them.

FalcoDude : Check the definition again. Merriam-Webster explicitly used prayer to be towards "God or a god." The act of prayer is exclusively used towards a deity. If you check all the other dictionaries, they all write that prayer is towards "God or an object of worship" (dictionary.com, Oxford, Cambridge, etc) It is interesting to say that Catholics don't worship Mary, because the confusion here for some people is that praying to Mary is an act of idolatry. It is praying to someone that is a creation of God and think that either she has power over or answer prayers that makes it idolatry, especially when the Bible explicitly says, "pray to God" and that Jesus is the mediator between God and Man.

Indulgences were already addressed before and that was probably one of the few things that the Catholic church changed about their position

Just because the text said "this is my body" does not mean that He literally means that it is. You want to check both the context and cross reference towards other verses in scripture in order to determine that. For one thing, if this style of proclamation is considered literal, then all the other things that Jesus said would be considered literal, which they are not and obviously are metaphors (Jesus said "I am the vine" (John 15) and "I am the door" (John 10) and "I am the Living Bread", which whoever eats "shall not hunger"(John 6).) Furthermore, if you read the next line, the Last Supper said that they are to do so "in remembrance of Him."

As for faith and works, this is a topic of imputed righteousness versus infused righteousness. It would go against the rest of scripture to say that we are saved through works:

"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast."

"he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,"

(Ephesians 2:8-9, Titus 3:5).

Notice that for both passages say that God saved us NOT because of works, but by God's grace.

If you read that passage of James as a whole, you would notice that James stated that "faith without works is dead". He is saying that the faith that some people claim is not real when there are no signs of faith-based action. He doesn't say that good works would help someone to be saved, but that the works are evidence of whether one has faith. This cooperates with what Jesus said that "good tree bear good fruit, bad tree bear bad fruit, and a good tree doesn't bear bad fruit. Notice that He doesn't say the fruit make the tree good or bad, but that you look at the fruit itself to see if the tree is good or bad. The actions and fruits are support of the saving faith that we have. That is why Jesus "If you love me, keep my commandments."

It's interesting that you mentioned Jesus' conversation with the rich young ruler, because that passage is exactly the reason why no one can be saved through works. Read the entire section (Mark 10). The rich young ruler ended up walking away sad, because Jesus told him to sell all his possessions and then follow Him. It was to the point that the rest of the people asked "Then who can be saved?" because Jesus said that it is hard for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God because of their love of money. His response was simply this: "with Man its impossible but with God, all things are possible." It is through God's power that people can be saved, not by Man.
