Do you like running? What's the farthest distance you have ever run? How difficult was that?

Ever since I signed up to run a 5K with my school (which is tomorrow morning), I've been running almost every day and I love it. I keep running around my neighborhood and using an app on my phone to track my distance.

Today I ran my own 5K in my neighborhood in a time of 39:39. I laughed when I saw that time. Because of my training, it actually wasn't that difficult but I had a headache afterwards for a quick minute before resting.

Running is near the top of the long list of things that I hate. I can't run at all.

I can easily walk 10 miles at a time with barely any breaks, but if I were to ever run two blocks I would probably pass out.

zanderlex : My friends that I ran a 5K with today struggle with running and I understand why. It's hard to get used to, especially if you don't start out slow. For a long time I was ok with riding my bike around the block but not running.

The 5K today that I mentioned in the original thread post went so well! My time today was 27:15 so even though I didn't mean to be, I was much faster. There must have been over 100 people there and I believe my place was 23rd. I'm happy I was able to check running an entire 5K nonstop off my bucket list. What a fun experience it was! I ran at a steady pace the whole time which helped a lot. Last year I walked most of it but ran some of it and I'd say that tired me out more than this did.

I run at least 2 days out of the week... cause Army. Not a fan, but somehow I'm also not bad. I can run a sub 7 minute mile pace for a while. Longest distance I've ever gone was roughly 7 miles. It was after a long time of not running. It was so miserable!

I normally would run 2 miles in almost 15 minutes. (At close to 5,000 ft elevation.) At sea level low 14s.

There was a time (does this sound better for a person in the mid-20s than "when I was younger"?) where I did like to run. I practised tennis, and I was among the best runners of my group ever. Oddly enough, running per se didn't really interest me, but running while playing tennis or any other sport was a totally different thing for me.

Times changed and I stopped practising any sport, and while I still could probably run well, I'm now more used to walking, no matter how long the distance. I'm not a fan of running across the city and I won't ever get to practice a sport (well, most probably not), so my only chance is to participate in some races going on in my city. I'll put that on the list for when I get my medication fully balanced out, just to challenge myself further.

When I was in Advanced Health, we always ran around the race track for a half mile and sometimes 1 full mile, and I hate doing it. Even when I pace myself to a manageable pace, I can't do it real well. I don't like running.

darthyoda : 7-and-a-half minutes per mile certainly isn't bad! When I was in JROTC class and we had to do a mile run, I kept running an 8-and-a-half minute mile, just about. I don't enjoy running that much if it's been a long time since I've done it, so that 7-mile run does sound miserable to me.

EX Palen : Yes, that sounds much better than "when I was younger" XD Yeah, running while playing a sport is more fun than regular running.

pacman1755 : You had an advanced health class? That's interesting. We only have advanced science, math, and English classes.

Running is my hobby and in my personal opinion it is a highly addictive one. The farthest I have ever run was a Hal marathon and I trained for it for several weeks so it really was not hard at all. A 5k is the perfect start for someone who wants to run with a group. There are people of all diffferent skill levels running and walking. Often in my town there are so many people that the running is quite slow because you can not pass all the people. It is like a wall of human beings. My absolute favorite parts is when people bring their dogs and the dogs form impromptu pack while running with their owners. I am not sure I have seen that many excited dogs anywhere else.

Fantasy.Castle : I found it pretty addictive too once I progressed well in my training for the 5K. I feel like experienced runners would have the same kind of result you had: all the training made the actual race easy. That wasn't the case for me but I might have done better if I didn't stop for water towards the end. A consistent pace is what I needed to have a strong finish.

I would love to run with my dogs! That is, if they don't decide to run faster than me and pull my face down to the concrete/grass/fire hydrant/whatever is right there.

Well I do not run that much because of my lung condition I cannot run that well. Instead I walk. However when I was in high  school our wellness class instructor made us run a mile (we could walk if we could not run). I decided I would try to run it took me about 16 minutes to run a mile i was ranked two from last place in my class  in terms of time. My wellness teacher was surprised because I was able to do very well in lifting weights ranking in the top 4 but one of the worst when it comes to running ranking 18 out of 20.

That was the only time I have really tried to run. I mainly just walk and lift weights. Walking it takes me about 18 minutes to do a mile. I can walk a good distance.

Running used to be extremely therapeutic for me in high school. I used to do it to relieve stress, and sort of run from problems that were plaguing me.

I wish I could work up the motivation to do it more often. I can't. I miss it a lot.
