A project long thought to be dead (as far as I can tell, anyway) has finally gives us some cool stuff to look at. A teaser for Shenmue III has finally been uploaded to Playstation's channel. Here's the teaser

Yeah I saw this earlier today. Watching it leaves me with two thoughts:

1. After that Mighty No. 9 trailer fiasco, who in their right mind partners with Deep Silver?

2. I'm not a graphics nut, but I really hope these are just early build graphics. A rough setup to give the developers something to play with. Because man...those faces look like they were ripped straight out of the Dreamcast games and just made less pixelated. It takes a lot for graphics to put me off of a game, but those faces, especially the one I think was the star of the game, they did it. Though the girl's face seemed a little less dead and frozen in one unnatural expression like...everyone else's. Surely more can be done with that budget that they received, and especially in two years of work.

But I have no right to bash since I can't do better, nor did I invest in it. I suspect it'll be polished up quite a bit before release anyway. Hopefully it's as amazing as the fans deserve for it to be.

Deep Silver published Persona 5. The Mighty No. 9 blame goes straight to Comcept, since I know Inti Creates is a good company too.

But yeah the graphics look like ps2 graphics and it better be an early build because there's no excuse.

I'm sure this is an early build but if they don't clean this up majorly before release then I might just hold on to my money.  I do want to finish Ryo's story but if it looks like this I think I'll just watch a let's play or something.  I don't think there's been a proper release date set yet though so there's still hope for now.  We've been waiting for about sixteen years, I can handle waiting a few more if it means they can fix the graphics.

Anyway, they were early builds, as confirmed by Yu Suzuki. Looks like they couldn't get the real character models in time for the trailer, and instead of postponing it they opted for some "class B" substitutes. Personally, if you ask the fans now, most would say they preferred to wait a bit more for the real trailer instead of expressionless puppets, but whatever, it's done now and there's no going back.

The release date is expected for second half of 2018, so still lots of time to get it polished and well done. I really hope it lives up to the hype, they cannot fail so many generations of gamers after waiting for so long.
