Hey, all. Most of the time, I can write fine, As long as I ton't have to think of the idea.

I just can't think of anything to write about. When I do get good ideas, I look at them for a few hours then discard them as being stupid. Any help?

I don't write large stories like novels but I plan on making more short stories and I've made a few more poems, so maybe I can help you.

My suggestion is to try what I like to call brainstorm writing to warm you up. It's when you write nonstop for a minute or 2 (or longer if you want, but that could hurt your hands). My creative writing teacher had all of us students do that for a warm-up at the beginning of class once, and it really helped me feel motivated to write. That would be a great first step.

As for the problem of lack of ideas, all I can tell you about that is to take a break. It's OK. Many writers have this problem at some point and I had this problem in the middle of my trimester of creative writing class, where I could be graded poorly for my lack of ideas. You hopefully don't have that kind of pressure.

Taking a break has often been exactly what gives me ideas. I'll just be thinking about life and suddenly an idea pops up in my head to write about something I'm passionate about. Like the poem I'm about to post on vizzed!

I'm praying that this writer's block is resolved soon.

I hated whenever this happened to me and I had to write like an essay for homework.

Best thing to do is to not worry about it and just grab some ice cream. You can't force ideas out of your head, and you'll only get frustrated if you keep trying. Listen to some music you like or watch a TV show/ movie you like and just clear your head. Sometimes an idea pops up after seeing something on TV.

Something else I always did was to play some card games or board games with family/ friends and just talk with them. If you're enjoying yourself then conversations can take drastic turns and you might end up talking about something you're really interested in, which gives you something to write about.

It's always harder to help someone come up with ideas online because we can only speak for ourselves or present some generic options. Your friends and family know you better than anyone else so you'll likely have more luck with them.

I'd think about the genre you are writing in first: that way, you can avoid the cliches.

My favorite suggestion is to create a mind-map of what you are trying to write: use your words and make something imaginative that can pop out of a page. If you aren't 100% sure of a topic, trust your gut instinct. If you really think like you can compose an original, and creative story with those ideas, go for it.

You don't want to force yourself into a story: if you can't think about it, you can't think about it. Leave it until you suddenly have an idea to further understanding.

If you have it for quite a while:  don't lose hope! Get some ideas and inspiration from other stories, (or write continuations of other stories if you really want to.) The thing is, the imagination is endless, so get writing, no matter what ideas you have.

Well I am no expert when it comes to writing. However, having been through college I can tell you writers block is hard. It seems like you are going good then you lose your thought or do not have any ideas. Here is what I did so this might help you.

Brainstorm- Think about what you are going to write about. It might be a good idea to make a few notes on a peace of paper.

Reflect on ideas- Do not think of any idea as stupid right them down and ask these questions? Can I write about this topic? Is this a topic I know some about? Can I find info on this topic? Also not down what ideas you have. It may not look perfect at first. But the main point is getting a starting point.

Draft- Once you have gotten a topic or know what you are going to write about start writing. Write what you want too. A draft is just a rough draft not a final paper.

Here is some of my other points

Do not get stressful, I know this is hard but if you get stressed you will not get passed brainstorming trust me I know

Some people do a flow chart of ideas this can help you get from point A to point B

Reflect on the topic again this is asking the questions I mentioned above.

Remember a draft is not a final paper you can make changes add or take out things.

Anyway, these are the things that I did and they really helped me. I hope this helps

You never know when one idea would work well with another idea, so even if you look at an idea for hours and throw it away, it could work perfectly with another idea you get weeks later, so it's always a bad idea to just discard them.

You need to write every idea down, and having ideas down can always lead to other ideas when you flip through them and have nothing else to write about.

As someone who has been told their writing is strong... you'll hit writer's block constantly, especially if you end up choosing it to be a career (I didn't). The best thing you can do is go do something else, honestly. Like play a video game, or watch TV, or go swimming. Really anything applies. The best writing is based off personal experiences, and the only way to experience life is to get away from the notepad or the computer, and see different things.
