I guess this is a rant... I mean, I feel I keep trying to send this message over and over again on fb, but people keep telling me two things: I'm too young to understand, or I'm being very coldhearted and should be ashamed for not giving any sympathy for the "victim."

This is in response to a previous thread I made, but I'm making this separate because even though it concerns the situation, the news itself doesn't share information that others already know on personal levels.

So the news pretty much said a teacher and a student were involved in a sexual relationship, so the teacher is arrested because the girl is underage, so it's considered sexual assault by law. On the main facebook post, a lot of people look at that, and of course, news like this happen, so while they're ranting profanities about the teacher, they're also giving pity to the student...

But here's what really happened:

The teacher was suddenly infatuated with her, so he began making rather suggestive comments towards her. The girl, liking the comments she's receiving from the teacher, not only encouraged him to keep doing so, but even manipulated him to continue doing what he was doing. They met up after school in several locations in secret, which led to kissing and groping. One day, a student caught them in the act and immediately spread the word. The girl panicked and acted innocent while completely throwing the teacher under the bus, and she bragged about what she has done to her friends, not even feeling guilty that she is partially responsible for ruining her teacher's career.

I made a comment, explaining all of that (albeit in a much nicer way) on the post, and I ended up with some middle-age women not liking what I said. In particular, I continued debating with this one woman about this situation, and she kept trying to tell me the girl was innocent with these excuses:

"She's not an adult, so she couldn't make adult decisions."
"The inner demons inside her corrupted her and chose those decisions."
"She has a horrible life of neglect, which encouraged her to go with him."

I pointed out to her that none of those justify what the girl did at all. She was trying to tell me that no one under the age of 18 can make a single adult decision, which I've seen to be completely false. The girl was 17 at the time, and she knew what she was doing, while  well aware of the consequences. Also, saying demons chose the decisions for her is basically the same thing as saying "I have never done anything wrong, so if I do appear to do something wrong, Satan did it for me," which also translates to "I can't take responsibility for what I do wrong." Lastly, having a bad life does not justify being an idiot and choosing to ruin someone's career out of entertainment. I've ranted plenty about my life, and I'm sure a lot of people on this site have dealt with a lot of issues, and very likely, if a teacher was to ever make suggestive comments towards us, our first instinct is tell a reasonable adult authority. That was not her first choice at all. Her first choice was "encourage him to keep doing it."

And while debating with the same woman, another woman came and agreed with me and called the girl manipulative in the process. The woman debating with me pretty much ripped on her, calling her a horrible person for insulting a teenager while an adult... the same woman said I was an "uneducated coward." I'd consider that insulting a teenager, which is what she's claiming the woman siding with me is doing.

And there was another woman who bickered with me and accused me of defending the teacher. Even after I explained to her that I wasn't doing such thing, she basically told me that because the law says the girl is the victim, the girl definitely is a victim. Yes, because the law said so, she must be innocent... even though she was just as willing as the teacher.

Yeah, I'm a little irritated that a bunch of middle-aged women are trying to tell me I'm wrong, and then get butthurt when a few others come and agree with me, and then said women start accusing those people of flaming a teenager, which was exactly what they were doing to me and they call themselves the "mature" ones. In addition, the same middle age women who barely or never knew the girl are defending her solely because she was underage and couldn't have done wrong, while saying I'm being the inconsiderate one, even though I have known the girl for thirteen years and have seen how she behaves. But by the end of the day, I'll calm down, and tomorrow, I'll prob get more replies concerning the situation.

First, this is the very reason why I don't like Facebook, but it does -in it self- prove the point I'm about to make. Secondly, I'm approaching this as objectional as possible (aka not what I really think or feel). I do personally believe there's a difference between being a victim (going through something) and playing a victim (acting like you are owed something because someone like you went through it).

I have seen
a lot, and I mean a lot  of different types of people with different ages and backgrounds. I also grew up in an orphanage. That still doesn't make me an expert on kids or people, but it does allow me to point out a few things that others May not see.

On a matter of social maturity: it's completely relative. I have seen 5 year olds conduct themselves thoroughly polite and selflessly, and tell you the long-term (like lifetime long) consequences for acting like that or not. I also have seen elderly people (65+) who completely disregard everyone and honestly could not understand consequences in life. It really is about how much "real life" experience you have. Some people are sheltered all their life, while others have no "carefree" stage ever.

Now the teacher obviously fits the bill of immaturity but so does the girl. Difference is that he knew it was against the law, she maybe knew it was. We can't see into her mind or soul to fully understand what propelled her to do it. He ruined his career, she was just the reason for it.

Everyone from a family with a reasonably caring guardian is taught from a very young age that he or she must own up to the consequences of one's actions even if he or she doesn't understand (you lie, you get a spanking, as an example). This being said the girl should face the consequences of choosing the teacher over running away. As well as the teacher facing the end of his career for breaking the law.

The girl, you said she's 17, is legally an adult in most jurisdictions and legal can make "adult" decisions.

Now for the argument. Anyone who is going to argue (emotionally charged discussion), not debate (none emotionally charged discussion), is immature. People have opinions and each is entitled to their own views, but often times people try to sell an opinion by arguing it as a fact or even try to "prove" something that they really know absolutely nothing about. Facebook is a bee hive of those types of people.

I'm pretty sure that's how it happened at my school too, but I haven't bothered asking anybody because it's such a wild and controversial topic. The women you were debating with made valid points about what her reasoning could have been behind her choices. But I agree it isn't a reason to defend her.

We all have our choices and sometimes we don't care whether it's right or wrong. In this case, the girl bragged about her choices. Even if she doesn't receive any form of punishment for this (which it seems like she won't), I hope she can learn from this, even if it's later on in life. Learning is what school is about after all.

I know that I made horrible decisions in my middle school years, and still to this day I have opportunities to apply what I learned from them. Those choices haunt me once in a while but I'm fine with that because I know it's part of the consequences. And it's worth the better, more fun lifestyle I have now.

You are on Facebook, and you are surprised people are being idiots? Aria, I...

Well, let's put it this way. Not many smart people go there.

Now I could give my thoughts on that person who did that, but that wouldn't be Vizzed friendly. So let's just say, she is a dumb, lying snake that deserves every bad thing coming to her. At least freaking own up to what you've done when you're found out.

A user of this :
I'm not sure I would call her dumb... lying tho, yes.
She knows exactly what she is doing and manipulating everyone... cuz she is the "poor innocent girl."
Now she will get more attention and everyone will feel bad for her.

Yeah, that's a load of crap. Maybe if nobody gives her attention it'll kill her inside even more.

That's a lot of crazy.

Like, weren't the middle-aged women young once?
They should know that even at that age, people are capable of being manipulative.

Excuses like they're "too young to know what their doing" isn't true.
Can't leave it unsaid though, what that teacher did was really, really messed up.
