I need a Dell XPS 410 GPU upgrade needed for gaming until I can get a new desktop. Right now I have nvidia geforce 7300 le GPU installed with a 400ish power supply and Intel duo core type CPU. If you need more information to better help me out I'll be looking into my desktop a bit more but the reason I put this up so soon with that much information is so that it can be ready when I am and hopefully some of you have some brain storming ideas.

And before anyone says that I'm better off waiting until I buy a new desktop, well I still want to fix it up a little bit because it's my mom's old desktop and I want to do this for her before I can get my own. I think she's had this for 20 plus years because she's had little since I was a kid. Please give me a list of things you need to better help me out I'll really appreciate it if we could work together on this. Please and thank you in advance.

LettersFromNoOne : If I'm understanding your question/comments correctly, you are wanting to upgrade this old PC's graphics card from an integrated XPS 410 GPU to something better? A lot of that is going to depend on a number of factors...

Is the computer case large enough to fit a standard sized graphics card?
How many PCIe ports does it have?
What version of Windows is the computer running?
Specifically, which processor is the computer running?
Or even easier, if you could tell me what model Dell the computer is, I can look it up myself.


What type of games are you trying to play? Because depending on the what the specs are, you may not be able to get it to play modern games without gutting the whole thing. Which at that point, you might as well just build your own computer.

Jordanv78 Firstly I think that the GeForce 7300 fit perfectly with a product dimension of 9.9 x 6.7 x 2.3 inches so something around those sizes should work.

I almost forgot that my power supply isn't 400ish I think the max it can go is 375 


And the type of games I want to play would be dolphin (GameCube/Wii) emulator and pcsx2 (PS2) emulator to run without lag ever, because right now they're so laggy it's almost impossible to play with high demanding games for it and if possible as well I'd like to try to play with the PS3, Xbox 360, Wiiu, and 3DS emulators too but if it's not possible for this desktop then I'm good. I know I probably screwed up some of the information you needed but I tried my best so if I messed up please let me know I'm always trying to learn from my mistakes to be better at computers. Thanks for the information. I was kinda confused originally because you made it sound like you were running a Dell XPS 410 integrated GPU.

Based on the specs you are telling me, you aren't going to be able to really emulate any of those systems with any type of frame-rate that would be enjoyable. Most likely it would freeze up. I'm figuring you would have a hard time playing even PS1/N64 games with that setup.

One of the biggest issues with trying to upgrade this old PC (I figure it was built sometime around 2007 or 2008 which makes it about 10 years old running 10 year old hardware)is that the CPU is not nearly fast enough to be able to play anything close to the type of games that you want to play. Even something like Dolphin recommends an i5 processor...

So you would most likely have to upgrade your motherboard, the power supply, the CPU, as well as the GPU, and upgrade your ram. Honestly you would even have to upgrade the OS to 64 bit as the Dolphin emulator no longer supports 32 bit OS. SO at this point you would probably be better off building a NEW PC. Maybe you could use this old Dell case to offset some of the costs, but even that I wouldn't recommend.

Sorry for the bad news, but you may need to lower your expectations on what this old PC can do, and consider how much time and money you really want to sink into trying to get this thing to function the way you want.

Okay first off if upgrading your motherboard is not an option than I highly recommend you upgrade your CPU. Try this Intel core 2 quad. It has four cores and will definitely help you out  when gaming and should be enough. Also id atleast carry 8gb of ram. 4 is honestly enough though if you already have 4. Now with the gpu since your running on a 400w psu (I highly recomend on putting some cash into a 500w psu) id probably either pack in the GTX 1050ti or just the GTX 1050. These cards dont need any connection from the PSU and draw power directly from the MOBO. Ill list the links below. I honestly think if your trying to keep spending low that this is the best option for you. Plus if this is going to be your first run PC gaming it would be smart to not sink in a bunch of money until you know you want to get into this. Beastmode64 : I'm not usually one to debate other people trying to help users, but I will point out a few things you missed.

1. He's running a 32 bit OS. So upgrading 8 gigs of ram would be a waste, since it's capped off. Not to mention the issues of trying to upgrade ram for a 10 year old motherboard...the speed/compatibility issues not to mention that it only has two memory slots...

2. The games/emulation he stated he wants to play won't run at a decent frame rate using that CPU, besides the issues of it being way below the minimum specs required for something like Dolphin, let alone anything else.

3. The graphics cards you mentioned would be good but wasted under his current architecture especially considering his CPU. Doesn't make sense to put something in there if his computer won't be able to take full advantage of it's specs.

Jordanv78 : Yeah I completely understand that his current build is just so outdated. I recommended that he switch up his CPU to the core 2 quad witch is still outdated, like a lot lol, but would help and would definitely do some bottle capping but he has limited options right now when it comes to graphics cards, maybe the 750ti would suit him better. I probably should of read the comments thoroughly because I didn't see that he wanted to run CPU demanding emulators lol. He did state that he didn't want to build a new PC though, so I tried to find the best upgrades possible and I did not know that 32 bit OS were not compatible with 8gb of ram. I guess you learn something new. Thanks for pointing out my mistakes though lol. I plan on starting a business around the time I turn 18 and basically I wanted to build computers and sell them for a profit. Just hope the etherum mining problem gets taken care of. 

   On the other hand though. I can recommend parts for a computer that would out perform this PC immensely and would cost around 350 dollars if you would like letters. The architecture is just so outdated on your build and you can only do so much to improve it.
