Now that I have been out of school for a month, I think of creating this thread. How silly.

Does your school offer a variety of gym classes? No need to list them all but I'm curious about whether or not my school is different.

Which one(s) have you taken/plan on taking?

My school has 3 gym classes that I can remember off the top of my head: Elective PE, Cross Fit, and Fitness Walking. Yes, you read that last one right. We have a class where you get an A for putting your best effort into walking each day. It isn't always that simple though. Sometimes the teacher had us walk a certain number of laps, which went up as far as 2 miles. That was no problem for me since I love walking and I can do it ridiculously fast. Also, we had to take tests to measure how fast we could walk a mile. We needed to improve throughout the trimester in order to get an A. Overall, that class was the easiest A I ever got.

Fitness walking was the only gym class I took, and I'm taking it again next year to help my GPA stay good enough for a scholarship.

Our school system is completely different so over here students just get a PE subject two hours a week and that's it. Some schools offer 4 hours a week but you need to pick a sports specific study course to get that in your package.

At my old school our first trimester was always running laps and endurance running stuff. Too lazy to look up the term lol.

During our second trimester we did something inside like indoor tennis, or basketball.

And during our last trimester we did something outside like baseball.

So technically we did 3 different things each year but it's all under the subject PE.

On top of the regular gym class that my school had, which integrated Soccer, volleyball, and team handball, there were also Weight training classes, basketball classes, and Yoga.

For my first 3 years I was stuck in regular gym and then for my last year I went to the weight training one and it was fun.

Furret : 2 hours a week sounds much better than 65 minutes a day, which is what I would be doing if I chose to take Elective PE. I like that idea of doing different things each trimester. I remember in middle school we did mostly indoor sports and running during the cold weather and flag football in the warmer weather.

Also, in middle school some people would get one trimester of PE a year and some would get 2. I never got why they did that, especially since I was never in any sports and I got 2 trimesters one year. It might have just been random.

zanderlex : There were classes just for basketball? That's amazing and one that I'd consider trying out if we had it. In my high school Elective PE for guys is mostly basketball but then they also do football and other sports I don't care for as much.

Pacman+Mariofan : I'm pretty sure basketball classes are like one of the most popular gym classes anywhere. Pretty sure every school here in all of New York offered it.

zanderlex : Well, my school needs to get with the program then My school would probably have to cut fitness walking to make room for that class, which would be fine with almost everyone. I took it before, it was easy and I loved it, but very few students take it and those that do usually complain about too much walking. It's so much better than regular PE though.

And a basketball class would really help anyone looking to join the school's basketball team. They'd likely be surrounded by many people who have a passion for basketball, and those students could help out.

Our despicable curriculum contains Rugby, (awful), Football, (awful), Fitness (meh),.

We also do Gymnastics, surprisingly, as it isn't popular at all with the boys. I quite enjoy it to be quite honest, it is an easy A and I would always love to take it. If they offer it, of course.

Thing is though, our curriculum is very gender linear, do you think it would be suitable to contain things like dance, and other artistic sports into the mix?

My school also had walking fitness, it was ridiculous the amount of people who tried to be lazy in that class or out right skip it. My favorite gym class that I took was gymnastics ( yes that was offered at my school) as was regular PE, swimming and strength training. I wanted to do strength training but it was at six am and I was already in the middle of band practice then ( you read that right we started practicing at 5:30 am) until seven.

realplayer109 : I wouldn't want to take any of those classes :/ I think your school should add a dance class to the list of options.

Fantasy.Castle : I know, right? Other students in my class were standing behind something to avoid walking more than they felt like. The class already requires basically nothing besides a little effort, so it's sad that people still try to cut corners.

Practicing band at 5:30am is insanely early. I have a friend that does JROTC drill practice at 6:30am and I thought that was early enough.
