janus : For me, I have to be strategic about taking notes on my phone. If it's really important, I have to save it as a draft text to myself since I check my texts regularly. If it's less important, I have to use my QuickNote app to save it. Also, I'm the same way about forgetting something unless I get it out of the way sooner.

tyranit : You have a marker board in your room? Wow, that's cool. Routines can help a lot for some people, but I'm not one of them.

I have a hard time remembering anything. If it's something I'm trying to memorize long term, then I've found that making flashcards, drilling and repeating the questions and answers to myself helps a great deal. I get the added benefit of hearing it and feeling it and getting it into my muscle memory. For other stuff, I'll just write in down in a notepad or a notebook if it's something I'll need to revisit sometime in the future, or I'll set a reminder of a timer on my phone if it's something that I'll need to take care of sooner.

m0ssb3rg935 : Oh nice, flashcards are a great idea! My English teacher this school year had flashcards as one of our choices for methods to memorize our vocabulary words. Things like that, as you were basically saying, can make you use multiple memory methods. When you're like me, you need as many as you can get when it comes to certain things XD

Sometimes I'll set an alarm on my phone too. That way, I'll remember to get up earlier so I can be ready for an event.

Oh yeah, for things like learning languages, I don't believe there's any better way to remember them. It also helps to try code switching in conversation between your native languages and whatever language you're trying to learn, but as far as just getting the vocabulary in your head, I don't believe there's anything more effective. There's no way I would be able to stick with learning Japanese without them. I use cram.com and their mobile app. You can make your own digital card sets. I prefer to drill on my phone because I like having everything in my hand. It's about the only thing I actually prefer on a phone. It's helped me get the hang of Katakana, Hiragana, Russian Cyrillic Alphabet, Greek Alphabet and approaching 200 words or so of Japanese.

m0ssb3rg935 : I love studying/learning Spanish! I took 4 years of it since I got to start a year early in 8th grade just by having an A in English the previous year.

What I found most effective for how to remember that was studying it the harder way first: reading the English and having to come up with the Spanish. Most people did it the other way around, which can get you stumped on the actual test. But studying it the hard way makes it easier to do both ways.

My school likes to use Quizlet which is another online flash card site and app, so my teachers made those sets for us. All we had to do was use them Good luck with learning those languages! As you likely would hear a lot, that's a lot of languages and so it's impressive.

When it is for a test or something I find that the best way I remember it is to make flashcards, Then get a big thing of paper and start writing the things over and over again. when I am confident with what I have, I then use the flashcards, then go back and rewrite whatever it was that I got wrong until I start getting everything right. and then I take a well-deserved nap!

if its just a thing I have to do later or whatever I put a sticky note on my laptop and a reminder on my phone. pretty simple but it works at least 80% of the time for me!

I WIn Also : Whoops, I forgot to reply to your post earlier.

Well, that's one benefit of being in a relationship I guess XD If I had a girlfriend, she would probably just get used to my memory and help me out whenever I feel like banging my head against a wall.

catbert225 : That's a great technique! Once in a while, I'll do that when the flashcards aren't helping me enough. But 97% of the time, flashcards will do the trick. It's only History dates and descriptions that I need to write down multiple times.

About the sticky notes, I always joke with my family about having to stick one on my forehead just to remember one little thing they expect me to.

One of the plus sides of being in a relationship. She can remember things for me since I forget things like a goldfish. Goes in one ear and out the other. So I'm glad I have the opportunity to actually go to doctors appointments and stuff like that since I WILL forget that I have one.

Pacman+Mariofan : It is really hard to remember if you don't want to do it. I've always had that problem. One thing I have found helps in getting into a routine. When you do, try to leave a spot open. Just in case you forget something. A lot of times, as long as I write things down, I usually get some free time.

I really don't do many things to help me remember things (which is why I use forgot your password, and even sometimes username, a lot).

When I was younger, for all of the websites that I'd sign up for (Webkinz, club pengiun, etc) I'd write all of my different usernames and passwords on a sheet that I kept. My mom encouraged that, but when I started signing up for things on my own, I'd always forget everything. Now I have started using only a few passwords (which you'll never know) and those are easy to remember cause I only have a few to try out.

For more on the studying side, I've always used quizlet to help me study, it was always effective. I've used it for probably every class that I've taken, and I'm glad I used it. Flash cards were never my think, but I LOVE the learn function on it and use it all the time. I am the master of learning vocab the day of a quiz (remember those vocab quizzes in highschool

I have a white board that I write down what I need to do on.
If it's something I need to remember verbatim, I write it verbatim.
If it's a general reminder, I write concisely to save room for things I need to write verbatim. It's that simple.

If it's more archive based, I have a notebook that everything important goes in.
Writing things down is important to remembering things.

Barathemos : I used to keep better track of my usernames and passwords too, but with Google Chrome I grew lazy. I just let Chrome remember it. And my school has me using so many websites with accounts that I don't bother trying to keep it all straight. Most of those websites I only use once.

Quizlet has always proved helpful for my studying, and I really like the test function whenever I'm close to taking the actual quiz/test.

I never really did feel safe using those things that remember your passwords, especially with all of the hacking that have been happening recently (not to google specifically, but people have the power to be able to do it)

I've never like anything that remembers your password for you, and I know people can steal passwords using scanners and such, the whole remember password thing seems a little too much.

Barathemos : Yeah, I do sometimes get nervous that can happen but I just looked up how to undo that function. So now if I don't remember a password, oh well I need to get a new one and write it down.

Now there's just the challenge of not losing the paper...

I love taking notes in the little wordpad/notes/memo apps on my phones. I'll always type stuff up whenever I want to remember something for later or there's something that interests me when I'm out.

The only problem is, I rarely remember to actually open these apps again later to see what those things were.

zanderlex : That's the problem I have that I don't realize as much as I should. I'll think "Oh, I'll put it in this QuickMemo app so I can look at it and remember it later!" But then I don't even remember to check the app, defeating the purpose entirely.

That's why I've had to switch to actual paper a few times. Even that is risky because one of my dogs keeps eating paper. Her medication makes her very hungry.

I do all sorts of things to remember stuff but the one thing I do mostly to remember stuff is to type stuff into Notepad so I can always come back to it for reference. Paper and to an extent notebooks can easily get lost or even ruined and memory is not always guaranteed to last forever.

I'm not even exactly sure which is probably one of the reasons I forget a lot of things.
Though I think I just repeat it over and over again... until I think I have it.

If it's something i have to remember overnight, I write it down on the note app on my phone and lock the screen while in the app, so it's the first thing I see in the morning.

Or I put whatever it is that needs something done to it on top of my laptop/chair so I have to notice it if I want to go online

Not a fan of notes because my handwriting is messy and they just get all over the place before you know it
