I'm playing Liquid crystal and I'm at the point where you can catch Suicune, and I'm wondering how many great balls it would take to catch it in this game?

Best case scenario 1. Worst case scenario whatever the max you can carry.
Assuming its catch rate hasn't been changed you have a .6% chance to catch with a great ball at full health.
Try paralyzing it or try getting as low as possible in health to help your chances but there is no exact amount of great balls that you need.
Just save state or save before you fight it and if you run out load the save state or save from before the battle.

If you're using Save States, all you need is 1 ball of any kind to catch virtually any Pokémon. 

Just Save State right before you throw the ball (lowering health and paralyzing, sleep, frozen, etc improve chances immensely), and then reload every time the ball breaks on you. You can literally spam the f4 and A Button key while holding the space bar to speed up, and get in about 20 throws per minute. This was my method for catching most every Legendary, though like I said this only works with Save States.

As Liquid Crystal is a Gen 3 rom hack, let's go by the Gen 3 catch rate calculator...
If the Suicune is at 1HP and is paralyzed, you have a 1.598% chance of catching it per ball, so multiplying that by around 65 will get you 100%, so you'll catch it most likely by 65 Great Balls.
