I've always felt.... a bit inadequate. Afteer a disaterous retro game review, I'm sitting here writhing in pain. I've feel like I'm lacking something. This is a self improvement thread.... the first I have ever done. Is there anything I can do to improve? What would you like to see from me?

Here's the deal: Anything we suggest or recommend, you'll think about it and you decide it's not exactly for you. Or because you didn't decide it yourself, you won't go full effort. The best way to develop yourself personally is to decide to make the change from within.

So, if I say, 'Start doing 20 push-ups a day, 10 in the morning and 10 at night,' you're unlikely to do that consistently. However, if you decide you need more fitness in your life and you make the change yourself, it'll work.

So, if you're looking for ideas, here they are:

FITNESS: Start doing 10 push-ups and 15 sit-ups every morning and every evening.

INTELLIGENCE: Read a book. Start focusing on fiction and try "On the Beach" by Nevil Shute.

NUTRITION: Stop drinking pop/soda for a week. Challenge yourself to see how you feel after seven days go by.

Anyway, those are some thoughts about self-improvement. If you try to make big changes, you don't so well.

If you want some new experiences and a way to track them, try www.lvluplife.com. It's a website that might help you answer the question.

Change EVERYTHING!

But seriously... You have to have a goal. Do you want to get fit in body, mind, spirit? Do you want to improve you're perception in others? Change other's perceptions of yourself? Having a goal to work towards always help?

For instance, you want to get fit, go on a walk everyday. If you have dogs, instead of just letting them out in your yard, take them on walks around the neighborhood. If not, go out and explore, take pictures while out, so you aren't just walking without purpose.

Want to improve your mind? Read instructional stuff, research. Instead of watching home videos on YouTube switch them out for channels talking about science, history, English etc. Stuff like that can help, and if you are so inclined, read some books! Reading books helps keep your mind strong, increasing your vocabulary, and giving insights into what is going on in the mindset of people then and now.

Soul... this one is harder... and not for everyone. Meditate, find time to reflect on your life. That's about all I can say here.

Other's perceptions/your perception. This ones pretty easy for me, be outgoing. When other's notice that you are willing to help, they will change perception. It doesn't have to even be anything significant, just minor changes can change the world! (A little optimistic, but it's all about attitude.)

Without any details, that's about all I can say. Since I feel like I'm stabbing in the dark here... Let me know if any of this helps!

As other posters have said you have to set reasonable goals for yourself. Then you can take it one step at a time. You don't want to try to take many steps forward or you will fall flat. Trust me I have tried that several times. Life is a process it has its ups and downs. Goals and taking one step at a time works best.

Don't let the bad review get to you. Treat it as a learning experience. My first few reviews were mediocre. But in time I learned how to write better reviews. A good review should be very detailed, tell what you didn't like about the game, how it compares to others, how was the plot, graphics, controls, sound, was it a fun game to play, was it hard, and your final thoughts on the game.

You could take an anti-depressant, that may make you feel better. No one is perfect but I think some of us would like to be I'd offer advice but I find myself in the same predicament all the time LOL!

Hi, Ultrajeff! =) I'm actually a bit confused about what you meant when you said you wrote a "disastrous game review," since your review didn't look terrible or anything like that to me. To me, it looked like you put in the effort to write as nicely as possible to present your views on a game, so I didn't think it was "disastrous" or whatever you may be thinking of your review right now. Just in case you misunderstood, when I responded to you in your thread, I was mainly talking about the game you mentioned in your review. Others said they thought it was a terrible game, but I thought the game couldn't be that bad if at least one other person didn't mind playing it. lol Since I'm not sure if perhaps you thought I was saying your review was bad (rather than the game), I'll set the record straight right now and tell you I thought your review was nice because it was short, succinct and to the point (that's a plus in my book, even though I know some other people would prefer lengthier reviews with a lot of fluff here and there), but still had enough details and descriptions in it to continue to hold my interest. If you are asking for some advice about what you could do to improve your reviews though, I would recommend working on refining your choice of words and expanding the vocabulary that you use in the reviews. Sometimes, that will require learning some new and possibly stranger words, but if you could learn to use them well, you should be able to improve your writing skills a bit (that goes for everyone by the way, not just you).

Finally, I've often thought you've been putting yourself down for too many things. Have some faith in yourself, and in what you do, and you might begin to see the world from a different perspective. Whenever you feel like you're the only one in the world that has issues, just remember that everyone else also has issues of their own that you just don't know about or can't see. For some people, it may not be immediately apparent what their issues are, but they are also dealing with something (for all you know, it could be worse than what you're experiencing). Rather than thinking of yourself as being "weird" or anything that's negative, see if you can think of what you have as your own individual/special talents/gifts and see what you can do for the world using those gifts. Everyone has something they can do. It just takes time to figure out what yours is sometimes. =)

Ah, as for drugs, see if you can try to not rely on any drugs whenever possible. Anti-depressants could actually have a paradoxical effect and make one suicidal instead, so if at all possible, try to refrain from using any drugs even if it's just to alter your mood (unless you absolutely need them for psychological reasons). In any case, good luck with trying to improve yourself! =) Feel free to ask if you're unsure/unclear about something I said, I won't mind answering your questions.

Here's the deal, Jeff: You can't worry about what others think about something you like. So you post something that's a good memory from a childhood and someone else says they don't like it and they're not impressed.

That's okay. I think NHL '94 for the Super Nintendo is the greatest sports game ever and people will laugh at me for it. I don't care.

It's tough not caring about what other people think. It's tough not judging yourself based on other peoples' opinions of what you've created and what you say and believe. But in the end you have to believe in yourself and stand your ground. Think, "I like that game. I don't care of one other person in the world thinks it's terrible. That's because the game doesn't appeal to them. It's not because I'm a bad person, I'm bad at doing reviews, or I'm somehow dumb for liking something.

Some people like certain things. Others don't. It's a fact of life.

The response, in a perfect world, is, "Oh, well. I tried to share something I like and it didn't work. I'll get them next time."

Walk away, brush your hands off, pay it no mind and give it no more attention and move forward. It doesn't mean the person who didn't like the game doesn't like you. That's the opposite of the truth.

I realize, I completely forgot to talk about the review you said was disastrous. My first reviews weren't that good, but I took time and practiced! Most of the reviews I now write, are featured. (Though I'll admit I don't review as much as I did a few years ago.) Focus on your opinion, no one else's matters in your review! It's what YOU think, not what anyone else thinks... Just cause other's don't agree, that doesn't matter. Keep honest to yourself, if you like it, you like it!

Quality comes with time. It ages as a fine wine, if you will.
