Well, I just remembered a story one of my friends told me about why cell-phone texting auto-correct sucks. Thanks to Fmylife.com to reminding me of this unfortunate event.
This is why it sucks: "After seeing a girl for a few weeks on and off I sent her a text to see if she wanted to go out the next saturday. Predictive text changed "go" to "in". So..."Why don't we in out on saturday?" She stopped calling me" What do you guys think of text auto-correct? I, for one, don't text (as I have no phone), but I think it sucks. Just look at what happened to that poor guy. He blew his chances with a girl he liked because the auto-correct made it sound like he wanted to get it on with the girl.

D*** you text auto-correct  !
Yeah, I think that auto-corrects of all sorts are bad, because you may not want something to be auto-corrected... for example, I really hate the people who have turned on the Auto-correct function on Microsoft Word, because when I use their computer, I cannot type my name in without it changing to something weird... I like the normal way when it just has a red underline under the word when it does not have a word in the dictionary... Likewise, I think that it should do the same with texting, so instead of changing "go" to "in" it would just underline it... I have a phone, but I don't text that much... only have about 5 times... I just feel it is easier to call the person...

I don't have a problem with it personally. I don't text much but when I do I pay attention to the words I'm writing out and make sure the text makes sense before I send it.

Occasionally when I'm texting in french to my brother and I don't feel like using the french keyboard setting (as some letters change places), it really gets annoying. But mostly, it isn't bad. On the iPhone when you finish typing a word that is unrecognized it'll show the new word it will replace it with. If you hit space, it'll replace; if you hit the word, it won't. Plus it'll predict long words before you have to type them all.

I had this problem too, but since I deactivated this feature, everything is ok now
But, I always have a glance at the whole text, before sending it.

I dont have a problem with the dictionary problem on mobile phones, but then again I actually check the message after I have written it before sending it...

I have auto-correcting turned off whenever I use a phone that has that feature (my current one doesn't do that  ). It's annoying and it's really just for lazy people who don't care to learn how to spell or don't want to look over their message first.

No I don't use that stuff man, it never get what I'm trying to say right. As Zamiel says, I was being lazy and wanted to see if it would predict the longer words for me (In my defense, fast typer, slow txtr). Anyways it never gets the words right so I'm still spelling them out all the way and it creates more errors cuz I was constantly making it ignore the suggestions. Needless to say that function isn't on anymore. |

I turned off auto text for that very reason. I once texted a girl to do something, and somehow it ended up auto correcting into... nothing I will say on this PG 13 board. Needless to say it did not end well... I mean she was all for it, but I wasn't. So umm... it was awkward, like it is now.

I literally, have stopped texting almost entirely for the sole purpsose that my cellphones auto correct is the most annoying piece of technology on the planet. It shouldn't exist....at all...Ever!

Usually it doesn't create too big of a trouble. Besides, proofread it for like 5 seconds before you send it and you'll know if it came out okay. Personally, it saves me time and you push less buttons than you would have if you had texted the manual way. |

I don't really text a lot. I just talk, it's easier, and costs $1 less a sentence.
I don't use it because of those issues, and that it always gets a wrong impression across.

I disagree on it sucking. I text my girlfriend mostly and she and I know each other fairly well. I've mentioned that auto correct has gotten me a few times, so she can generally figure it out. Fortunately my auto-correct does a pretty good job. For those saying it's for people who are lazy and don't know how to spell for me it's because I have big fingers and when I hold the phone portrait the keys are rather small on the touch screen, so occasionally I'll mistype. The other thing is it can let me text quicker by me not having to type out the full word. Though I wish it was a bit more complete as it didn't even have the word perspicacious. When I did have a phone, the texting auto-correct thing sucked big time. I got sick of it changing to random words. I couldn't figure out how to disable it
