I saw some ads about it which featured Ryuk, and at least that one is similar to the anime.

Such a shame that it won't be in theaters, though. I'd like to see that on a very big screen accompanied by my acquaintances and strangers and a pack of extra salty popcorn like only the cinema I attend does

This also reminds me I never got to see the full anime. Considering I may have a one month hiatus if the new Yu-Gi-Oh spinoff is actually delayed to May, maybe I can use the time to watch it and then I can comment on how true to the anime the movie is.

I've been actually looking forward to this for a while. I always like to give new adaptations a chance and judge them on their own merit, not how "faithful" they are the original; if I wanted to see Death Note the exact way the manga and anime was, I'd just go read the manga or watch the anime. So I hope they'll bring something new and interesting to the table while still retaining the spirit and themes of the original.

Also, I didn't think it would be set in Seattle! That makes me very happy. Though now I have to wonder if Seattle has a disproportionate amount of narcissists living there (Light Yagami, Frasier Crane... just kidding, Frasier's not a narcissist).

At Baritron; Nope its about a college law student having power to kill people because "his Justice" is way better than anyone else. However, another student in his class is way better at finding mysterious cases and helps solves them. So the guy with the deathnote tries to not get caught and the other is wounding why people keep dying more often than normal.

   I've had mixed feelings about this ever since I heard it was in production.  After Dragonball Evolution, I've become extremely picky about live action anime movies.  That being said, I'm going to watch it at some point anyway since it's Death Note, which had been my favorite anime until more recently when I watched Tokyo Ghoul.  I'm not sure how I feel about Nat Wolff as Light but I think Willem Dafoe will make for an amazing Ryuk.  In the end though, it's mainly the performance that matters.  

   I just hope they have an interesting spin on it and don't stray too far away from the source.  I'm alright with a few changes, in fact I hope they make it a little different since It is an american retelling of the story after all.  However, completely changing the rules of the death note or something like that would be a big no-no.  Like how Dragonball Evolution made kamehameha do all sorts of things it wasn't supposed to do (for instance, how Roshi used it to heal goku).  As long as they don't do something stupid like that, it should be fine really.
