I dislike the idea of destiny, because then no matter what good I do, something bad will happen to me, because it is supposed to happen according to destiny, the good side of destiny is that, no matter what mistakes you make you can still get something good in the future, because you are destined to get it...

I believe strongly in destiny and fate and all the likes.

But I also believe that it is what we make it. Like, we are destined to do one thing, and only this may happen, but it happens because we are who we are.

I beleive ultimately everything happens for a reason, and therefor destiny. Free will only exists on a smaller scale.

I believe that people influence their destiny and shape their own path to what it truly is. One cannot be predict to do things no matter what equipment you have to predict it.

I do I guess... What is most interesting about destiny is when someone close to you dies you think back and wonder if one second in delay could have changed their destiny... its unknown really but quite interesting to think about

From what I have seen in my life so far, kinda feels like I'm not in control someone else is controlling my destiny and I do not like that or maybe I do lol. Guess time will tell.

I'm not really sure what to think. I know some people say you determine your own destiny but I take destiny to mean something was predetermined to happen to me meaning I had no control over the decision. If that's the case, what's the use of me doing anything at all if destiny is predetermining what's going to happen to me anyway?

I don't believe in destiny. I don't think there is anything you are destined to do. I believe that you always have a choice. No matter what the situation may be. You may not like the choice presented but you always can make a choice.

I believe some people were pre-destined to do things. I think there were certain people that have been born that had special things to do. But I still think they chose to go down the path they went. I still think there was a choice in the matter.

I agree completely. God does have things planned for your life, but he still gives you the choice to follow him or not.
If Noah decided not to build the ark, God would have just gone along with it, maybe got one of Noah's sons to do it, maybe just kill them all and re-start, but he would not have forced Noah to build the ark. Same thing with us, he has plans, but he doesn't force us to comply.

Well my mother always says "The Lord makes everything happens for a reason" and I think destiny is strongly affected by those who believe that they can achieve glory and honor.
(wow I sound like a book....from the library)

I can't be sure if there is something that we can call it destiny.
But if it's true, then I don't want to know my destiny or someone's else, because if something bad is going to happen, I'll be really sad because I wouldn't be able to change it.
I think bignatealpha has a good and optimistic opinion, I like it, but I can't be sure if it's reall.

bignatealpha, I like your way of thinking the best. I believe that God has planned out your life basically, but it's your choice to go with that. So, i guess that means... that destiny is real, but it can be changed.

There's no such thing as destiny or fate. Everything happens for a reason and your in control of it all. Luck is a small thing too but that kind of exists. Fate and Destiny however is just a sorry excuse. Whether something happens in your life on purpose or accident, there was someone fully in control of it to a certain degree. You can say I landed in jail because it was my destiny but ultimately you put yourself in there, same goes for everything else. Destiny is an excuse, a cop-out, and a way to blame something on it.

I have no concrete belief on the subject, but I think you summed up my personal views pretty well, bignatealpha. It's like we were all given our own set of guidelines for our lives and its up to us to follow them or make cause variance along the way.

Ahh, the eternal unanswerable question. There really is no concrete evidence to prove or disprove this. Was I destined to say this? Who created destiny? Why? There really is no answer to this, but I like the thought process it created. It's interesting, but no other species on Earth cares about who they are or why they are here or what the will do (If there is a super-dolphin breed or something reading this, sorry). I really can't answer that question, but I do think that there is some form of destiny in our lives.

there is no destiny, just like there is no god. I'm not claiming chance is in there, but there are many choices that lead up to every second of every day. those cannot be planned so they just might seem like pure luck.

I do believe in destiny… It is something that I’ve personally learned to accept over time. I started writing at a young age and although I always thought I would do something else for my career, my writing slowly evolved and blossomed over time and I ended up making an unlikely career out of it. Although I think that writers don’t get paid nearly as adequately as they deserve, I have a love for it despite it’s hardships.

I believe that although life tends to throw curveballs at you and it can come when you least expect it to. It makes you stronger over time and matures you as a person if you seize the opportunities. I can see another person’s point of view of not believing in destiny but for me I firmly believe in it.

I believe in destiny, because God intended us to do everything that we do. So he knows everything that we are going to do, which was planned, so it's destiny. Yet you can't do nothing, you have to do stuff by your own will.
I believe in destiny, because God intended us to do everything that we do. So he knows everything that we are going to do, which was planned, so it's destiny. Yet you can't do nothing, you have to do stuff by your own will.

Robert7 : I am not sure whether it is fair to say that God has everything planned out for us at the beginning of life but I do think there is a fair mix of God’s will and free will. I prefer to think of it as God gives you the tools needed to set you on a path that will fulfill a destiny that one will eventually seek in time but it is also up to the individual to not only recognize a gift that god gives but to make use of what ever talent one develops. What ever one ends up doing with their life I think in a way if you use your talents to help others in some way or entertain or enlighten you are likely doing good in God’s eyes.

I liken it to Robert De Niro’s famous quote from “A Bronx Tale” “The saddest thing in life is wasted talent…” I believe that if there were no such concept or belief in destiny there would be no such term as wasted talent which sadly is seen a lot today especially among young celebrities. The sad thing about those stories is although they are sensationalized to a berserk level much of the time; people forget that most celebrities if not born into a famous family start out as regular people and to sensationalize their short comings is a real tragedy almost as much as the fact that they seem to be treated differently from the rest of society when they mess up for one reason or another where as the “Average Joe” would have the book thrown at him without hesitation and with little compassion.

This is just one person’s view obviously but the point I’m trying to get across here is I believe god sets people on a certain path that will lead them to good things in time but god gives people the choice whether or not to stay on that path.
