Okay, so its TdV time and i'm still considerably a newbie to this website, and i wanna contribute and make a name for myself, so in this month, expect me to post a lot of music production thread cause that's what i know about the most lol. (I know this is mostly a site about gaming, but i'm not that much of a hardcore gamer so yeah, i'm kinda weak on that topic lol)
If you're interested in making beats, edm tracks, or just music in general, this is the thread for you my friend.
So, how to make music with just our pc and imaginations? It's kinda a lot of stuff to set up, but, its gonna be worth it.
First of all, you need a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) which is basically your studio. There's a lot of good DAW's out there like FL Studio, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, and so on so forth. But, all of these DAW's are stupidly expensive (you can crack it and stuff, but, its kinda risky lol). There's some free DAW's out there, you probably can use them but i assume its gonna be hard since there's won't be a lot how to tutorials in youtube. Me personally, i use FL Studio. This DAW is great and easy to understand. You can use any DAW you like, its a personal preference, and this is one quote my friend said when we argue about what the best DAW is, and its kinda true tbh.
"A great music doesn't come from the DAW, it's come from the producers"
Second of all, you'll need (or not) some third party plugins. Plugins is basically your "Digital instruments". Every DAWs usually already have a lot of plugins with it when you install them, like FL, you got a lot of synthesizers and effects plugin, which is pretty good in my opinion, but still, i feel like third party plugins are needed. Me personally, i installed a handful of third party synthesizer plugin like Sylenth1, Nexus, and Serum since there's a lot of presets and tutorial about how to use them which is making it easier when learning sound designing stuff. Now as i said, it's all personal preference, if you like the OG plugins, use them, if you think they're not enough, download some third party plugins.
Third of all, you'll need some samplepacks and possibly presets and soundbank (only if you already mastered sound designing, then you'll probably not need em since you can make them yourself.) Samples are a huge part in my opinion, like, you don't wanna make your track outta crappy drum sounds, or a vocal shout with a whole lot of noises in the background. Most of the HQ samplepacks are usually cost a lot of money, but sometimes, they're out there in the torrent, so yeah, you choose what to do lol. And presets and soundbanks. Even tho you're a sound designing freak, you'll still need some presets in my opinion cause designing all of your sounds for your track is kinda tedious.
Fourth of all, and this is optional, you'll need a sound related hardwares like headphone and headset. You can use your PC's speaker, but it's going to be hard when you started mixing your track since your PC's speaker might not output all of the sound frequencies (i think they cut some of the frequencies so there'll be no sound peaking and stuff.) But, if you're trying to achieve that perfect mix, you'll need to hear all of the frequencies that your project suppose to output. I mean, if you're still on the learning stage and have no idea how to mixing and stuff, laptop speaker is fine to use. But, if you've started learning about mixing and stuff, you'll probably needs some of this.
Now the last one, you'll need to get crazy and creative. Now, in my experience and some of my fellow producers friends said this too, you'll get more creative if you spent more time producing. Cause a creative mind isn't gonna grow by itself, you need to practice them like, you can't just figure out how to write a catchy melody and chord progression, you need to learn about it and if you're mixing, you'll really need to practice your ear since you need to get rid of some bad frequencies and blending all of your sounds into one beautiful track, and it's not gonna be happen in one day. The point is, you'll be a great music producers if you work and practice hard enough.
Now, thats probably all you'll need to have if you're still in the learning stage. You'll need to learn about sound designing, music theory and stuff eventually if you're interested and getting deeper to this world. But i think you'll be able to make stuff without learning them. I mean, its gonna be easier to write melody and chords if you understand the theory (i still didn't knew the advanced stuff and its so hard to make chord and melody.) and its gonna be easier to achieve the track that you want if you mastered sound designing, but that's a more advanced stuff and i'm not mastered them too to be honest.
If you're interested to make beats, music and stuff, just follow this step and watch a tutorial about how to use your selected DAW, and you'll be able to make stuff, trust me.
Now this is just a thread to get you started, if you wanna learn more about music production, just watch some tutorial cause if i make a 'How To Use a DAW' i'm not gonna be able to do it other that copy pasting from the official DAW website. So yeah, follow the steps, watch some beginner tutorials, and you'll be able to make stuff.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask me, especially if you choose FL Studio as your DAW, I'll be able to help you a lot hopefully. I mean, i understand ableton a bit but not so much, and i don't know anything about logic, so I recommend to use FL since its easy to understand lol.
