It’s Christmas Story Week! (Day 3)

Ages: 9+

“Kimberly and I were at my house and everything went fine, until Alfie (my best friend) called. He said he liked Kimberly as much as I did. And I didn’t want to disappoint him. Still, I already have a relationship with Kimberly... Do I have to break up already? I went back to the living room. My mom noticed something’s wrong.

Amy: “Joshua... Is everything alright?”
Joshua: “Kind of...”
Amy: “Well... What’s wrong?”
I went up to mom. She was very concerned. A while ago, nothing happened. And now... I was feeling down.
Joshua: “Can you please promise you guys trust me with this?”
Amy: “Of course, dear. We all trust you, so... go ahead.”
Joshua: “Kimberly and I have a relationship... But my best friend Alfie liked Kimberly too... And I don’t want to disappoint him. But I don’t want to break Kimberly’s feelings either.”
Amy: “Hm... So you and Kimberly have a relationship?”
Joshua: “Yes... Since yesterday.”
Amy: “Wow... But I think it’s better to think about this: How many times was Alfie there for you? How many times did you two hang around somewhere? How many things have shown others that you two are real friends”
I got to say: Alfie wasn’t really a person who was there for me. But I remember on Christmas 2012, he helped Santa Claus out with giving presents locally. And Alfie promised him that he’ll do that every year since then. I mostly wonder how Alfie actually can do that. I mean, school and his spare time for his hobby are important to him. But back to the main topic: He wasn’t there for me when I needed him... So why would I be on his side?
Joshua: “Mom, you’re right. I’ve made my decision.”
Amy: “Good. Kimberly sure takes a lot of time there...”
Joshua: “I’ll go to her.”
I went to the toilet Kimberly was on. Obviously, the door was locked. I knocked the door quietly.
Kimberly: “Yeah?”
Joshua: “Uh, Kim? Are you alright there?”
Kimberly: “Yeah, I’m fine. I just... Need to finish my game and then I’ll come!”
Joshua: “Okay.”
I went back. Of course, how could I forget Kimberly was a gamer? But... Wait, now she breaks her own house rule. If she only may play games for 45 minutes per 3 hours... Oh well, not my business. Bad Joshua, bad!
Amy: “And? Is she coming?”
Joshua: “Yeah, she was playing a video game.”
Amy: “Oh, so she likes games too, eh?”
Joshua: “Yeah. She does.”
I am a gamer, Kimberly is a gamer... Plenty of gamers in the world, but I chose Kimberly. Because she has a nice personality too. And she looks beautiful to me. Dad was still working in the kitchen, and he was now done there. He went up to the dinner table and made a sandwich.
Bruce: “Josh, I heard a massive market is open at the town square. Maybe you, Kimberly and Tiffany want to go there?”
Mom looked at dad with a confused face.
Amy: “But... Honey, they need an adult to guide them and keep an eye on them. Why don’t we all just go there?”
Bruce: “Because we need to focus on my job and your task for the mayor, right?”
Mom was being asked to bake a cake for the mayor, who’s birthday was soon. As the mayor accidentally knew who bakes those delicious cakes and stuff for the bakery sometimes, he asked mom. Lucky! (or not, depends on her mood)
Amy: “Yeah, but the deadline is in 2 days... I have the time. And plus, your boss asked you to pack photo albums in 3 days. And we need to think of a nice look for the room of our new baby.”
Bruce: “Hmm... You know what? We’ll ask uncle Derek to go with Tiffany.”
Amy: “And Joshua and Kimberly?”
Bruce: “They can find their own way. Right, Joshua?”
Joshua: “Uh... I think so. If something happens, I’ll call you two.”
Dad stuck up his thumb. Mom was still against the idea, but she trusted us. Once we got the permission, Kimberly, Tiffany and I packed ourselves in with warm clothes and went to the market. We got $20 each, so it shouldn’t be a problem if we need or want something from the market. And so, we left our home and went to the town square, only a few hundred meters away from home.

On our way, Kimberly and I held each other’s hand. And Tiffany was very excited. I guard over Tiffany and Kimberly, I could say. Tiffany was hopping and running a lot. She was indeed very excited.

Kimberly: “Is your sister always like this?”
Joshua: “Nah, only if we go to places like the market or the toy store.”
Kimberly: “So she gets excited by fun things?”
Joshua: “Eh... Yeah, basically yes.”
Kimberly released my hand and yelled Tiffany’s name. Tiffany ran up to a busy road and almost ran over it. Kimberly let Tiffany stop there. And I thought: Wow, Kimberly sure cares a lot about Tiffany.
Tiffany: “What’s wrong?”
Kimberly: “I don’t want to act like your mom now, but I think it’s better to wait until the traffic light goes to green.”
There was a white striped path on the road for people who need to walk over the road. And a few traffic lights were there too. The cars didn’t seem to stop.
Tiffany: “Well, thanks. But they don’t stop!”
The cars are slowing down when arriving the path. Their light is now red, it seems.
Kimberly: “Look. The cars stop so we can cross over soon.”
Indeed, the traffic light we were at turns green and we can now cross the path. I saw a familiar face in one of the cars at the right. It was Alfie who was a passenger in his car. He looked kind of mad at me. I thought: I really hit him there... Once we were at the other side of the path, we turned right, towards the center of the town. A lot of shops and markets are there, and so is the town square. We were almost there, we just need to walk 100 meters.

Later on...

Once we arrived at the market in the town square, we heard a lot of noises of people selling their products.

Everyone: “Clothing, brand new clothing, 35% off! Special French fries, only for $1.99! Dog toys, not used, 50% off when buying a second toy!”
Kimberly: “Geez, it sure is active here. Look at the people!”
A lot of people were at the market. Maybe like 500 people? Maybe more than that?  We were ‘browsing’ (as I would call it) the market to look for things to buy. Suddenly, Tiffany was trying to run to a toy store nearby.
Kimberly: “Tiffany! Stay close to us!”
Tiffany didn’t hear Kimberly, the people who sell their products yell too loud. Kimberly and I went after Tiffany, as I knew where she would go to.
Joshua: “I bet she’ll go to the toy store!”
We went to the toy store, being concerned about Tiffany. Once we were at the toy store, we saw Tiffany. And we saw a bunch of children there too.
Tiffany: “*whispers* It’s Santa! He’s here!”
Kimberly: “*whispers* Please! Don’t do this again! Your mom would be worried if she heard that you were missing!”
Joshua: “*whispers* And so would I be!”
Tiffany: “*whispers* Okay, but look!”
Tiffany pointed at the center of the store, where Santa Claus was standing, telling a story to the children around him. I always thought Santa was too busy to come, but he managed to come anyway! We went up to Santa, while all the children looked at us too. Oh, and the parents of the children were there too. They were near their child to spend time with them, listening to Santa’s story.
Santa Claus: “...and so, Rudolph brought us nothing but joy. We were happy that he saved our house! Hohoho!”
All children were clapping and were happy to hear a happy end. Tiffany was kind of sad that she didn’t really hear the entire story.
Santa Claus: “And Tiffany...”
Santa Claus knew Tiffany’s name. She looked up to Santa.
Santa Claus: “As you couldn’t be here in time, I will give you a gift.”
Santa was going to a giant bag he got behind him. That’s where all the presents were in. He grabbed a small gift and gave it to Tiffany.
Santa Claus: “Here. As an apologize for not waiting for you!”
Tiffany opened the small box. She couldn't believe what was in it.
