Speaking as someone who has been a local mod for well over a year now, the reason we have things like the thread, post and CP quotas is because part of being a local mod is contributing to the site and encouraging activity. It might seem like this crazy and foreign concept but I don't think it's an unreasonable expectation to place on the mods. None of the quotas are particularly hard to fulfill assuming one visits the site daily. The CP quota can easily be achieved through posting alone unless someone is making 30 word posts (in which case they should in stead have the time to do the minimal amount of staff work needed). It's there to make sure people aren't trying to circumvent quota by putting in the minimal effort needed.

Some were against the thread quota at the start but I think pretty much everyone who has stuck on the mod team will admit to it actually being a pretty easy quota to make if one actually puts their mind to it, especially since it applies to ALL forums, including the report forums and rented forums meaning not just the ones you are modding. Part of encouraging activity is not just contributing to discussions but starting them yourself. In either case it doesn't matter, as thread quota overall is more of a recommendation than a requirement as in no one is actually being demoted for not meeting it as long as they make a conscious effort to at least try to meet it. again it's about putting in the effort.

Does this mean that every thread or post made is going to automatically increase activity? No but it at least shows that one is willing to put in the effort needed and forces one to engage the site in various ways. In stead of having the locals all be faceless, only post in the report forums and then be completely disconnected from the rest of the site.

JigSaw : Just because you meet the quota doesn't mean you're exempt from the risj being demoted, nowhere in the application is that stated. Being a local mod is a learning process, people pick up on it as they go and are through that given increased responsibility. You're not expected to know every single detail as soon as you're hired, that would be an unreasonable demand.

Furthermore if someone is abusing their powers or not performing their job correctly then they will be dealt with by the globals+. To shove a huge list of requirements in people's faces before they have even applied isn't going to do anything but deter people from even trying in the first place.
