I've finally decided to start binge-watching some more Pokémon! After years of slacking from watching the great Pocket Monsters, I'm starting back! And what's more, I'm going to buy some Mangas and DVDs of Pokémon soon - probably around Christmas. I've got a lot of catching up to do. The last one I've watched fully was Generation III... Hoenn, I believe.

So there's the matter of the questions:

Firstly, what are the new series and which regions/Generations are they? I want to know where and in which order I should watch.

Secondly, is there anything new that I should be on the look out for (no spoilers of plots, just new things). For instance, I've heard something about Mega evolving.. Any information about that? Plus any new features?

Thirdly and finally, I might want to try some of the new games from Gen 4+. Can someone name the games as well as which Gen they are?

Note: I do not expect these questions to be answered by any one person all at once, nor do I expect all the answers to be given very quickly. So I'll be patient.

Glad to hear that you got back into the series

If the last thing you watched / played is Hoenn, then you've only seen half of what currently exists.

*4th gen takes place in the Sinnoh region. Being the first games on the DS, the visuals are amazing compared to the third gen.
The main games are called Diamond and Pearl. Similar to Crystal and Emerald, there is also a third game which is called Platinum. Storyline is basically the same (if not better) so I'd play Platinum if I were you.

There are also remakes of Johto, Heart Gold and Soul Silver. Would definitely recommend them, awesome games

*Fifth gen takes place in the Unova region. These games (called Black and White) have one of if not the best story of any main games. There are also two games that are sequels to Black and White, lazily called Black 2 and White 2. Highly recommend you to play these after Black and White.

*Sixth gen takes place in the Kalos region. The games (called X and Y) are the first on the 3ds. The graphics once again increase in quality, although the story and gameplay is pretty lackluster given how much they were hyped up by Nintendo.

There are also Hoenn remakes, called Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. They're completely the same as the original games but with better visuals and a few extra features.

*Seventh gen was released like a month ago. The story takes place in the Alola region, which consists of a few islands. The visuals and gameplay are stunning and the region is awesome. Games are called Sun and Moon. Definitely, definitely recommend these games, best ones they have released since Heart Gold and Soul Silver.

As for Mega Evolution, it was introduced in the sixth generation. They're basically temporary upgrades to a few pokemon, giving them new stats and even new types (Electric/Dragon Ampharos :o ). You can only have one Mega Evolution at once and they only last one fight (though you can do it again in a next fight). Gen 7 introduced Z-Powers, which are basically extremely powerful attacks that you can only do once a battle. Type and power depends on what Z-item your pokemon is holding and what moves it has.
