WARNING: SUN/MOON SPOILERS AHEAD

So I just saw a video explaining the entire Pokemon timeline, and it is very well done. I decided to type it up and share it with everyone, because why not? Be warned, this does contain spoilers. There may be a visual representation of the timeline at the bottom eventually. This timeline does not include any info in the Sun/Moon post game, since I haven't cleared it yet.

The Beginning

- There is nothing but an egg. The egg hatches into Arceus. Arceus created Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina. Dialga was the basis for time and Palkia was the basis for space.

- Arceus banishes Giratina to the Distortion World for its violence.

- Arceus creates Uxie, Azelf, and Mesprit. They are the basis for knowledge, willpower, and emotion.

- Kyogre and Groudon were formed as the basis of the sea and the earth. Rayquaza resided in the ozone layer to intervene whenever Groudon and Kyogre fight.

- Multiple Mew species appear around the world.

- Regigigas shaped the regions with his strength. Regigigas creates Regirock, Regice, and Registeel.

Hundreds of millions of years pass

Prehistoric Times

- Mew population declines around the world.

- First humans start to appear around the world.

- Many Pokemon started to appear, mainly the prehistoric fossil Pokemon. A meteorite impact declines a lot of the population.

Hundreds of millions of years pass

Last Ice Age

- Humans settle the world. Humans believed Regigigas had too much power, so they sealed him in Snowpoint Temple to avoid danger. They also sealed Regice, Regirock, and Registeel in different locations.

Few thousand years pass

Kalos War

- A war in Kalos starts, and many Pokemon end up dying. King AZ's Floette is one of the Pokemon that died.

- AZ builds a machine to revive Floette. The machine had to take the lives of even more Pokemon to achieve this. The machine worked, but it also backfired, granting immortality to both AZ and Floette.

- AZ turned the machine into an ultimate weapon and ended the war. Floette abandons AZ after learning what he had done.

- The consequences of the ultimate weapon caused a rift in time and space itself, creating two multiverses. The first multiverse is where mega evolution exists due to the machine's energy being transferred to multiple meteors and converting them to mega stones. In the second multiverse, the Kalos War never happened, and the result is that mega evolution didn't exist.

1,000 years pass

Origin of Mega Evolution

- Kyogre and Groudon awaken in their primal forms due to the energy from the mega stones falling from space. They fight again.

- The ancient draconid tribe pleads for Rayquaza's help, and Rayquaza stop them.

1,000 years pass

- Another meteor shower cause Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre to fight again.

- Rayquaza performs the first mega evolution by swallowing a meteorite (mega stone), and stops the fighting between Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre.

Unova War

- The royal family ruled the region with a powerful dragon. Two successor princes fought over what should define the region, truth or ideals. The dragon split into Reshiram and Zekrom, and left Kyurem behind as what was remaining of it.

- Reshiram and Zekrom fight, and it ends up with Unova being almost completely destroyed.

Years pass

Pokeballs and Pokemon Leagues

- The first Poke Balls started appearing with the help of apricorns. This allowed the human race to train and battle with Pokemon.

- Pokemon Leagues were set up in multiple regions to regulate the activity. To enter the Pokemon League, a trainer must explore the region and obtain 8 gym badges from the gym leaders of that region.

Team Rocket

- Giovanni forms Team Rocket as a criminal organization.

- Giovanni and his scientists research Mew and eventually create Mewtwo.

- Mewtwo turns against Giovanni and the scientists and goes into hiding in Cerulean Cave.

Red / Blue / Yellow / FireRed / LeafGreen - Generation 1 - Kanto

- Professor Oak creates the Pokedex and breeds 3 starter Pokemon for beggining trainers: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle.

- Red (Male Player) chooses Charmander, Blue (Rival) chooses Squirtle, and Green (Female Player) chooses Bulbasaur.

- Red and Blue become rivals, and they both defeat the Rock type Gym Leader, Brock, in Pewter City. This gives Red and Blue 1 Gym Badge.

- Red encounters Team Rocket at Mt. Moon for a short time.

- Red and Blue visit Bill and both get an SS Anne Ticket from him.

- Red and Blue both defeat Misty, the Water type Gym Leader, in Cerulean City, giving them both 2 badges.

- Red and Blue obtain the HM Cut from the captain on the SS Anne, which allows them to reach the 3rd Gym.

- Red and Blue both defeat Lt. Surge, the Electric type Gym Leader, in Vermilion City, giving them both 3 badges.

- Red reaches Lavender Town and searches the Pokemon Tower for the missing Mr. Fuji. He encounters Team Rocket and defeats them. A Marowak is killed by Team Rocket before they escape the tower.

- Red and Blue both defeat Erika, the Grass type Gym Leader, in Celadon City, giving them both 4 badges.

- Red explores Team Rocket's Hideout under the Game Corner in Celadon City and battles Giovanni. Team Rocket abandons the hideout after being defeated.

- Red and Blue both defeat Koga, the Poison type Gym Leader, in Fuchisa City, giving them both 5 badges.

- Team Rocket takes over Silph Co. and hold the president hostage. Red infiltrates the building and finds Giovanni, in which Red defeats him. Team Rocket leaves the building and everything is normal again.

- Red and Blue both defeat Sabrina, the Psychic type Gym Leader, in Saffron City, giving them both 6 badges.

- Red explores the Pokemon Mansion and uncovers the research about Mew and Mewtwo that Giovanni and his scientists did.

- Red and Blue both defeat Blaine, the Fire type Gym Leader, on Cinnabar Island, giving them both 7 badges.

- Red and Blue both defeat Giovanni, the Ground type Gym Leader and leader of Team Rocket, giving them both 8 badges.

- Giovanni disappears and Team Rocket is disbanded.

- Blue makes it through Victory Road and defeats the Elite 4 (Lorelei, Bruno, Agatha, and Lance), becoming the new Champion.

- Red makes it through Victory Road and defeats the Elite 4 (Lorelei, Bruno, Agatha, and Lance), and reaches Blue.

- Red defeats Blue and becomes the new Kanto/Johto champion.

- Red leaves for Mt. Silver for training and promotes Lance to be the new Champion. The Elite 4 and Gym Leaders are slightly rearranged.

Team Magma/Aqua

- Maxie organizes Team Magma to achieve his goal of spreading the land. His rival Archie organizes Team Aqua to reach their goal of spreading the sea.

Ruby / Sapphire / Emerald / Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire - Generation 3 - Hoenn

- Professor Birch breeds 3 starter Pokemon for beginning trainers: Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip.

- May moves to Littleroot Town from Johto, where she meets her rival/friend, Brendan.

- Professor Birch is attacked by a Poochyena/Zigzagoon and is saved by May when she chooses Torchic. Brendan picks Mudkip.

- May's father, Norman, takes a position as Gym Leader.

- May visits Norman, and meets Wally, a new trainer. Norman helps Wally catch his first Pokemon, and travels to Verdanturf Town while defeating Gym Leaders on the way.

- May has her first encounter with Team Magma/Aqua.

- May, Brendan, and Wally all defeat Roxanne, the Rock type Gym Leader, in Rustboro City, giving them all 1 badge.

- May defeats Team Magma/Aqua in Rusturf Tunnel and rescues Peeko, Mr. Briney's Wingull.

- The president of Devon Corp. asks May to deliver a letter to his son and a package to Captain Stern in Slateport City.

- May, Brendan, and Wally all defeat Brawly, the Fighting type Gym Leader, in Dewford Town, giving them all 2 badges.

- May delivers the letter to Steven and learns about the legends of Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre.

- May runs in with Team Magma/Aqua and meets their leader, Maxie/Archie. She then delivers the package to Captain Stern.

- May, Brendan, and Wally all defeat Wattson, the Electric type Gym Leader, in Mauville City, giving them 3 badges.

- May travels to Meteor Falls to stop Team Magma/Aqua.

- May travels to Mt. Chimney where Team Magma/Aqua are experimenting. She defeats their leader, Maxie/Archie, and Team Magma/Aqua leave.

- May, Brendan, and Wally all defeat Flannery, the Fire type Gym Leader, in Lavaridge Town, giving them all 4 badges.

- May, Brendan, and Wally all defeat Norman, the Normal type Gym Leader, in Petalburg City, giving them all 5 badges.

- May stops Team Magma/Aqua's research at the Weather Institute.

- May, Brendan, and Wally all defeat Winona, the Flying type Gym Leader, in Fortree City, giving them all 6 badges.

- May explores Mt. Pyre to find out what Team Magma/Aqua is up to. Team Magma/Aqua steals the Red/Blue Orb and May is given the opposite colored orb.

- May infiltrates Team Magma/Aqua's base and finds out about their plans to awake Groudon/Kyogre.

- May, Brendan, and Wally defeat Tate and Liza, the Psychic type Gym Leaders, in Mossdeep City, giving them all 7 badges.

- May travels to Sootopolis City to find a way to stop Team Magma/Aqua.

- May, Brendan, and Wally all defeat Wallace, the Water type Gym Leader, in Sootopolis City, giving them all 8 badges.

- May reaches the Seafloor Cavern, where Team Magma/Aqua awakes Groudon/Kyogre. Groudon makes the sun brighter than normal, and Kyogre makes it rain much more than normal.

- Team Magma/Aqua realize the mistake they have made, as Groudon/Kyogre don't listen to them. Groudon/Kyogre travel to the Cave of Origin to wreak havoc on the region.

- May uses the Red/Blue Orbs to weaken Groudon/Kyogre and stop them from wreaking havoc.

- Wally gets through Victory Road.

- May gets through VIctory Road and has a battle with Wally.

- May defeats the Elite 4 (Sydney, Phoebe, Glacia, Drake) and has a battle with the Champion, Steven.

- May wins the battle and is the new Hoenn Champion.

Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire - Generation 6 (Mega Universe)

- The last of the remaining draconid tribe, Zinnia joins Team Magma/Aqua in an attempt to summon Rayquaza to destroy the incoming meteor that could destroy Hoenn.

- Zinnia changes her plan. She is attempting to stop the scientists from teleporting the meteor to another universe (Ruby / Sapphire / Emerald).

- Zinnia, with the help of May, summon Rayquaza at Sky Pillar. However, Rayquaza was too weak to Mega Evolve. It was only after May caught Rayquaza that he was able to Mega Evolve.

- Mega Rayquaza travels to space with May on its back, and destroys the meteor. Deoxys comes out of the meteor, and they fight. May wins the battle.

- May returns to Sky Pillar to find that Zinnia is gone.

Pre Johto

- Giovanni abandons his son, Silver.

- Team Rocket regroups in an attempt to revive the team and call Giovanni back.

3 years pass

Gold / Silver / Crystal / HeartGold / SoulSilver - Generation 2 - Johto

- Professor Elm breeds 3 starter Pokemon: Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile.

- Ethan picks Cyndaquil.

- Ethan delivers a message to Mr. Pokemon at the request of Professor Elm and is given a Pokedex by Professor Oak.

- Silver steals a Totodile from Professor Elm

- Ethan and Silver both defeat Falkner, the Flying type Gym Leader, in Violet City, giving them both 1 badge.

- Ethan reaches Azalea Town and meets Kurt, who is trying to save the Slowpoke from a newly formed Team Rocket. Ethan helps defeat Team Rocket and they flee.

- Ethan and Silver both defeat Bugsy, the Bug type Gym Leader, in Azalea Town, giving them both 2 badges.

- Ethan and Silver both defeat Whitney, the Normal type Gym Leader, in Goldenrod City, giving them both 3 badges.

- Ethan arrives at the Burned Tower and learns about the legend of Ho-oh/Lugia and Entei, Suicune, and Raikou. He also meets Euisune, who is chasing after Suicune.

- Ethan and Silver both defeat Morty, the Ghost type Gym Leader, in Ecruteak City, giving them both 4 badges.

- Ethan arrives in Olivine City to find the lighthouse Pokemon sick. Jasmine asks Ethan to get medicine from Cianwood City.

- Ethan and Silver both defeat Chuck, the Fighting type Gym Leader, in Cianwood City, giving them both 5 badges.

- Ethan gives the medicine to the Ampharos.

- Ethan and Silver both defeat Jasmine, the Steel type Gym Leader, in Olivine City, giving them both 6 badges.

- Ethan arrives in Mahogany Town, and travels to the Lake of Rage, where he meets Lance.

- Ethan catches a shiny Gyarados and returns to Mahogany Town with Lance to investigate strange radio signals.

- Ethan and Lance infiltrate Team Rocket's Hideout and shut down the generator inside. Team Rocket abandons the hideout and take over the Radio Tower in Goldenrod City.

- Ethan defeats Team Rocket in Goldenrod City and they disband for good.

- Ethan and Silver both defeat Pryce, the Ice type Gym Leader, in Mahogany Town, giving them both 7 badges.

- Ethan and Silver both defeat Clair, the Dragon type Gym Leader, in Blackthorn City, giving them both 8 badges.

- Ethan catches Ho-oh/Lugia with the help of the Kimono Girls.

- Ethan and Silver get through Victory Road in Kanto.

- Ethan defeats Silver and Silver starts to be friendly towards his Pokemon.

- Ethan defeats the Elite 4 (Will, Koga, Bruno, Karen) and defeats the current champion, Lance.

- Ethan becomes the new champion of Kanto/Johto.

- Ethan travels to Kanto to defeat the Gym Leaders there.

- Ethan and Silver both defeat Lt. Surge, the Electric type Gym Leader, in Vermilion City, giving them both 9 badges.

Diamond / Pearl / Platinum - Generation 4 - Sinnoh

- Professor Rowan breeds 3 starter Pokemon: Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup

- Dawn chooses Piplup, Lucas chooses Chimchar, and Barry chooses Turtwig

- Dawn and Barry both defeat Roark, the Rock type Gym Leader, in Oreburgh City, giving them both 1 badge.

- Dawn and Lucas have their first encounter with Team Galactic.

- Dawn helps Cheryl get through Eterna Forest unharmed.

- Dawn and Barry both defeat Gardenia, the Grass type Gym Leader, in Eterna City, giving them both 2 badges.

- Dawn infiltrates the Galactic Building in Eterna City and they flee.

- Dawn meets Cyrus for a short time in Mt. Coronet.

- Dawn and Barry both defeat Fantina, the Ghost type Gym Leader, in Hearthome City, giving them both 3 badges.

- Dawn and Barry both defeat Maylene, the Fighting type Gym Leader, in Veilstone City, giving them both 4 badges.

- Dawn infiltrates Team Galactic's Headquarters in Veilstone City and finds out about their plans.

- Dawn, Barry, and Lucas reach Spear Pillar at the top of Mt. Coronet, and Cynthia shows up as well.

- Cyrus attempts to bring Dialga and Palkia to their world through the use of Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf.

- Giratina appears and stops everything to prevent the destruction of both the Distortion World and their world. Cyrus happens to be transported to the Distortion World, and Dawn and Cynthia travel in the Distortion World to finally put a stop to Cyrus' plans.

- Dawn and Barry both defeat Volkner, the Electric type Gym Leader, in Sunyshore City, giving them both 8 badges.

- Dawn and Barry both get through Victory Road.

- Dawn battles the Elite 4 (Aaron, Bertha, Flint, Lucian) and battles and defeats the Champion, Cynthia.

- Dawn becomes the new Sinnoh Champion.

Years pass

Pre Unova

- N is adopted by Ghetsis and Team Plasma is formed to "liberate Pokemon".

- N is crowned the king of Team Plasma.

Black / White - Generation 5 - Unova

- Professor Juniper breeds 3 starter Pokemon: Snivy, Tepig, and Oshawott.

- Hilbert chooses Snivy, Bianca chooses Oshawott, and Cheren chooses Tepig.

- Hilbert, Bianca, and Cheren all have their first encounter with Team Plasma and N.

- Hilbert, Bianca, and Cheren all defeat Cilan/Cress/Chili, Grass/Water/Fire Gym Leaders, giving them all 1 badge.

- Hilbert, Bianca, and Cheren all defeat Lenora, the Normal type Gym Leader, giving them all 2 badges.

- Hilbert, Bianca, and Cheren all defeat Burgh, the Bug type Gym Leader, in Castelia City, giving them all 3 badges.

- Hilbert, Bianca, and Cheren all defeat Elesa, the Elctric type Gym Leader, in Nimbasa City, giving them all 4 badges.

- N's Castle rises up from the ground behind the Pokemon League.

- Hilbert obtains Zekrom/Reshiram and battles N for one final fight.

- Ghetsis reveals his true plan was to be the one in control of all Pokemon, and he was using N. N turns against Team Plasma and Ghetsis battles Hilbert, with Hilbert winning. Team Plasma disbands, and N and Hilbert with Zekrom/Reshiram.

Pre Black 2 / White 2

- Team Plasma is re-organized by Ghetsis himself, along with Colress as the scientist.

- The Pokemon League is slightly rearranged.

2 years pass

Black 2 / White 2 - Generation 5 - Unova

- Nate recieves a Tepig from Professor Juniper, and his rival Hugh has an Oshawott he hatched from an egg.

- Nate and Hugh have their first encounter with Team Plasma in Floccessy Ranch.

- Nate and Hugh both defeat Cheren, the Normal type Gym Leader, in Aspertia City, giving them both 1 badge.

- Nate and Hugh both defeat Roxie, the Poison type Gym Leader, in Virbank City, giving them both 2 badges.

- Nate and Hugh chase down Team Plasma in Castelia Sewers and Nate has his first encounter with Colress, a scientist in Team Plasma researching what brings out a Pokemon's power.

- Nate and Hugh both defeat Burgh, the Bug type Gym Leader, in Castelia City, giving them both 3 badges.

- Nate and Hugh both defeat Elesa, the Electric type Gym Leader, in Nimbasa City, giving them both 4 badges.

- Hugh reveals his mission to rescue his sister's stolen Purrloin.

- Nate and Hugh both defeat Clay, the Ground type Gym Leader, in Driftveil City, giving them both 5 badges.

- Nate and Hugh board Team Plasma's ship and fight them off for a short time.

- Nate and Hugh both defeat Skyla, the Flying type Gym Leader, in Misralton City, giving them both 6 badges.

- Nate and Hugh both defeat Drayden, the Dragon type Gym Leader, in Opelucid City, giving them both 9 badges.

- Team Plasma freeze Opelucid City with Kyurem's power and steal the DNA Splicer's from Drayden.

- Nate and Hugh both defeat Juan, the Water type Gym Leader, giving them both 8 badges.

- Nate and Hugh reach the Giant Chasm and face off with Team Plasma. N arrives to try to help, but he falls into Ghetsis' trap, and Ghetsis combines Zekrom/Reshiram with Kyurem, making Black Kyurem/White Kyurem. Nate defeats Black Kyurem/White Kyurem as well as Ghetsis, and Team Plasms is defeated once and for all.

- Hugh saves his sister's stolen Purrloin, now a Liepard.

- Nate and Hugh both make it through Victory Road.

- Nate defeats the Elite 4 (Shauntal, Grimsley, Caitlin, Marshal) and battles and defeats the Champion, Iris.

- Nate becomes the new Unova Champion.

Pre Kalos

- Team Flare is organized by Lysandre.

X / Y - Generation 6 - Kalos

- Professor Sycamore breeds 3 starter Pokemon: Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie.

- Serena moves from Kanto to Kalos.

- Serena chooses Fennekin, Shauna chooses Chespin, and Calem chooses Froakie.

- Serena has her first encounter with Tierno and Trevor.

- Serena and Calem both defeat Viola, the Bug type Gym Leader, in Santalune City, giving them both 1 badge.

- Serena and the rest of the group meet Professor Sycamore in Lumiose City.

- Serena and Calem has her first encounter with Team Flare.

- Serena and Calem both defeat Grant, the Rock type Gym Leader, in Cyllage City, giving them both 2 badges.

- Serena and the group reach the Tower of Mastery and decide who will get the Mega Ring by battling. Serena wins.

- Serena and Calem both defeat Korrina, the Fighting type Gym Leader, in Shalour City, giving them both 3 badges.

- Serena defeats Korrina once more and obtains Mega Evolution.

- Serena and Calem both defeat Ramos, the Grass type Gym Leader, in Coumarine City, giving them both 4 badges.

- Serena puts a stop to Team Flare's antics at the Power Plant.

- Serena and Calem both defeat Clemont, the Electric type Gym Leader, in Lumiose City, giving them both 5 badges.

- Serena and Calem both defeat Valerie, the Fairy type Gym Leader, in Laverre City, giving them both 6 badges.

- Serena stops Team Flare's antics at the Poke Ball Factory.

- Serena stops Team Flare's antics at Frost Cavern.

- Serena and Calem both defeat Olympia, the Psychic type Gym Leader, in Anistar City, giving them both 7 badges.

- Lysandre announces that he is going to attempt to use the ultimate weapon to reset the world, killing everyone and everything.

- Serena and her group of friends infiltrate Team Flare HQ and Lysandre Labs, where they find AZ trapped in a cell.

- Serena battles and defeats Lysandre, but the weapon fires anyway, but it backfired on top of the firing area and the plan failed.

- AZ wanders the region in search of Floette.

- Serena and Calem both defeat Wulfric, the Ice type Gym Leader, in Snowbelle City, giving them both 8 badges.

- Serena and Calem both make it through Victory Road

- Serena defeats the Elite 4 (Malva, Siebold, Wilkstrom, Drasna) and battles and defeats the Champion, Diantha.

- Serena becomes the new Kalos Champion.

- AZ finds Floette.

Pre Alola

- Team Skull is organized by Guzma, who failed to become a trial captain along with Professor Kukui.

- The Aether Foundation is organized by Lusamine.

- Gladion escapes Aether Paradise with Type: Null and joins Team Skull.

- Lillie escapes Aether Paradise with Cosmog.

3 months pass

Sun / Moon - Generation 7 - Alola

- Sun moves from Kanto to Alola

- Professor Kukui breeds 3 starter Pokemon: Rowlet, Litten, and Popplio.

- Sun chooses Litten, and Hau chooses Rowlet.
