I'm a member of a forum somewhere on the internet. It's actually a forum dedicated to Super Mario 64 machinimists, and it's not full of life yet. Now, i'm not seeking for a visitor there (By the way, i'm a regular member there) but i'm planning making MY OWN forum with the program the owner of that forum used. However, i'll need some advice from people. You guys, perhaps? I'd really appreciate that.

I am a YouTuber who has, right now, 892 subscribers and 408.000+ total views. I upload SM64 (Super Mario 64) video's but wanna try something different. I'll link the forum to my YouTube account. So what is a good subject for a forum that everyone knows of? Or should i just make one dedicated to my own subject?

Is it overall a good idea to make one?

I don't follow anyone on YouTube, I rarely pay attention to YouTube except for do-it-yourself home repairs, some gardening things, and some fitness training videos, and I'm not involved in the online community.

Heck, those numbers of yours may be good compared to some and atrocious compared to others and it's all good. I don't even know what you're talking about with your videos.

But, when it comes to attracting others to YouTube, it's just like writing. There are two rules you have to follow and people will come.

1. Talk about and make videos about the stuff you know well and what you enjoy. Don't try to make a video about what you think other people might like or what you think will appeal to them. The ones that know it well are going to not pay attention to you because you're doing something for them. It should be you doing something for you and no one else. Pick your own subject, commit to it, produce videos with love and passion, and the people who care will find you.

2. Is it a good idea to make one? Yes. It is always a good idea to create new things, try new things, and pour your soul into new things. Do it. Go and attack and make what you want. If it doesn't do what you want it to do, learn from those lessons, develop your techniques and get better at what you're doing. Improve with the mistakes learned. It doesn't matter the subject as long as you're following rule 1.

I believe you can put some effort and time into this and grow your subscribers. Keep putting out new material in a timely fashion and make it fun and believe in yourself. That's what will work.

Go have fun. Go do it.

I think what you should do is do you. That's what youtube is meant for after all. But if you wish to get a larger crowd and more subs you should try to appeal to a multitude of crowds. But at the end of the day do whatever makes you happy.
