like many others I have just heard about the new Pokemon go game where you go around trying to catch the  Pokemons with your smart phone and while I,m not really much into Pokemon I have tried it once in the while here on Viz and in my opinion it seems to be pretty good but since I don,t own a smart phone it,s not very likely that I will be trying the new one, however I was just wondering if anyone else has played it and if so what do you think about  Pokemon go? do you think it,s a good game or something that is more of a here today gone tomorrow type of thing that will eventually fade away?

In my opinion Pokemon Go seemed like a great concept on paper but in actuality and functionality it falls flat (not to mention it has people putting themselves in danger). Me personally I don't care for it, the game freezes and closes itself too much (mainly on older andriod and iphone firmware) and has basically just distracted most of the population(everyones playing in the middle of the street, in cars , in cross walks, woods, etc.) and in some cases really put players in dangerous situations (given how they trespass and go around hazardous environments for a Pokemon) . In addition if your not a active walking person you'll probably hate this game given you must walk a ridiculous distance to find any good pokemon, if you like certain aspects of pokemon like battling and training and gym battles and individual unique pokemon attack moves you will hate this game because all you do is catch the same pokemon over and over again to grind them into candy and feed it to one pokemon of the same kind of pokemon to level it up and with the gyms you beat them over and over again in order to capture them or some crap like that if you even make it to the gym because you cant challenge gyms until level 5. Basically to sum it up Pokemon Go is the latest trendy thing to do that took away all of the best aspects of pokemon and succeed at  endangering peoples lives and alienate fans of the Pokemon franchise that were playing pokemon before it was considered trendy and "cool".

I feel like Pokémon go was kind of like destiny. Over hyped, bad servers, and minimal content. Though Pokémon go is free, I feel like that isn't the game I was looking for. I thought it would be more sophisticated than find Pokémon catch them, then take over gym. Its dull. I thought maybe you would get your Pokémon, have to fight other Pokémon to weaken them if you want to catch them, have more moves and a combo system. I don't know, its just a social trend that is sucking people away.

I got a Huawei-powered-by-android a few days before Pokémon Go was released in Europe
Tried it, found it boring and dumb, and hope Pokémon Go will literally burn one way or another. Really, what's so fun about Pokémon anyways? I just can't get into it... Eh. I guess it's just me. I mean for real, of all games, ML Dream Team is my favourite game which is in general a bad game. No wonder I don't like Pokémon.

For real though, did my mother really open up Pokémon GO app while driving? I mean we were standing still BUT STILL...Even my MOTHER played it more than double than I have. I feel like I'm ranting so I'll stop talking rn lol

Pokemon Go can lag sometimes, even on my new phone (it's an LG G5), and when it does it's annoying (I played it today a lot with my friend). I find it a nice and fun game, but I think some people take it too far. Sorry guys, but Clash Royale is better .

The first thing you should know is that Pokémon Go is pretty much nothing like the Pokémon games on Vizzed.  There's just no point in comparing them outside of 'they have the same animals'.  The second thing you should know is that it's not even compatible on my phone, so I'm not talking from personal experience...

The good:  it gets people to walk around, and in some cases they even socialize like the developers hoped for.  This is because Pokémon can be anywhere at any time, preventing you from driving a circuit of all the important places in your area like the majority did for Niantic's first GPS game Ingress.

The bad:  there is a large number of people who have gotten in the news for being dumb or distracted and thus coming to personal loss or harm by playing Pokémon Go, but that isn't a flaw inherent to the game.  For that you need to consider the storyline (basically nonexistent), the competitiveness (extreme and often less than friendly even in members of your own faction) and the microtransaction leech.

Basically you wander around, hopefully on actual free time but often interrupting work or social obligations.  I've seen people up and vanish from a chatroom for nearly half an hour, coming back with tales of the rare Pokémon that lured them away.  My brother's boss has, since he started playing, delegated a lot of his actual desk work to subordinates so he can make frequent 'inspection' walks that rarely take him near anything that needs inspecting.  The Pokémon can appear anywhere but apparently tend to make repeat appearances in the same general location, which is why we hear so many stories of homes and businesses barring all Pokémon players.  (not to mention the graveyards and memorials...)  Then there are the stationary objects, pokestops and gyms.  The former you want to have real close to where you play because they yield consumables every seven minutes and you'd much rather get the freebies than pay premium currency for a few more balls.  The latter is the source of all the competition.  If you're an early adopter in your area you can garner a nice fat wallet of premium currency by possessing the gyms, at least until people who play a lot more than you or buy advantages take over.  If you aren't and don't want to purchase your pass to the top, you will probably never get more than a couple of hits of free currency per day-and that only when you find a gym held by your team with an open slot for defenders.  These are rare; my brother actually tried to get one by training at the gym until he'd unlocked a new defender slot for it and somebody who'd been sitting nearby stole it first.

You need premium currency for a lot of things.  Incense and lures to attract more Pokémon, pokeballs to capture them all, incubators (which you only rent, you can never buy spares) to put eggs in so they'll actually mature as you walk... if you aren't one of the gym holders you'll have to live with hitting the pokestops a lot or spending a lot of real money on your virtual pets.

All in all, I'd rather buy a new Pokémon game and have the potentially hundreds of hours of use out of it trying to capture all those things, and I'm sure the bulk of players will feel the same way-especially once they've spent fifty bucks and not broken away from the pack.  It may not be a flash in the pan but it definitely isn't going to stay as massively important as it was in the opening phase.

I have never played the game and I just missed Pokémon from a standpoint of playing the original. I went the route of Final Fantasy and sports games for my NES, SNES, and PlayStation experiences as a kid.

Saying that, there are two things a ton of people who are under forty don't do that much: They don't go outside and walk around a lot and they don't talk to each other, verbally, face to face.

I see so many kids who'd rather text, IM (which is what we called written messaging back in the day), snapchat, facebook, whatever else they wanted to do except actually talk. Everyone, even on this site, seems so sensitive about not being able to hold a conversation and expect things to get 'awkward' and I try to tell these young'ns they have to practice to get good at conversations.

Anyway, I went for a run in the evening a few weeks back and I was pleasantly surprised. I live near a massive college town and all these people, 30s, 20s, and younger, were out, walking, talking, laughing and playing. It was great.

The game adds exercise to socialization. Who cares what kind of game it is as long as people get out and meet each other and talk to each and they're on their feet while they do it.

That game is fantastic.

If you wait that long, it's going to take a really long time to get up to speed. I probably invested more than 100 hours into it already and I'm not even half way done with what's already available, and when there's trading and battling, there will probably be so much more to do.

I played it like a week or so... It's very boring game in my opinion. You catch some pokémon's and most of them are the same drowsee, pidgey, weedle etc.. Then when you are finally level 5 you can battle in gyms.. You put your MIGHTY 100 CP Pidgeotto in there against those 2000 CP Snorlaxes and Ninetales.. And the lack of plot in this game is a great downer.. The only goal is to get the strongest pokemons and kick some ass in gyms? Maybe if you find a way to roleplay it with your friends, that might give it some zap... But anyways if they can come up with something great I might download it again, but I don't think so.

I downloaded it when it initially came out and I wasn't able to get on immediately because the servers were overloaded so I ended up waiting a week or two before I actually touched the game again. In all honesty though, I don't find it all that fun. I play it at college every once in a while because the pokemon there are far better than the ones I've found in my neighborhood area (which consists almost entirely of pidgeys, rattatas, and weedles) and because there are 3 pokestops within the campus as well.

I will say though, as Ghostbear pointed out, that Pokemon Go has really brought a lot of people that don't go outside and socialize much to the outdoors which is fantastic in my opinion. In the few short months that the game has been out, I've seen a lot more people out riding their bike and going outside in search of pokemon. Even though I already go on walks and runs regularly, I went outside a lot more whenever I did play the game. In the end, I don't really care for the game much (I only play it when I am really bored or when I visit a new area I've never been to before), it is nice to see people out and about for a change. That being said though, I still much prefer the original/handheld games to Pokemon Go from a gameplay/competitive perspective.

This is an interesting question.

I think Pokemon Go, inherently, is good, but it's the obsession with it, that is bad, and giving it a bad reputation.

I downloaded Pokemon Go last month, and have enjoyed playing it. It gets me to take longer walks than I normally would, while also allowing me to feel relaxed, and not stress about things like "oh I have walked 3 miles today, I need to walk 2 more."

In this respect, it's an assistant that actually helps more than a pedometer.

On the other hand, a lot of people take this as an excuse to constantly look at their phones. So they bump into people while walking, they get hit by cars, or they stupidly play it while driving, hitting other people with cars.

The obsession with it is unreal, even though it's died down in recent weeks.

I would have to say it is a mixed bag. I applaud them for releasing a game that encourages some physical activity and social interaction. But  after hearing about all the bad things like people being jumped at a pokestop, people running their cars into stuff, and people getting hurt or dying while playing the damned game,I would think that game should never seen the light of day.

I downloaded the game in the middle of the whole Pokemon GO craze and wasn't impressed by it. Glad everyone's calmed down though.

It's good that kids are going outside. Pokemon had a big impact on me growing up so it's nice to see the newer wave of kids enjoying it as well.

Whether I personally enjoy it or not, it's a fact that a lot of people do so it does its job as a mobile game pretty well.

I think Pokemon go is a really good game. Gets people outside and potentially making new friends.
