A couple of places in the game where you can leech points are.....

The end of level 2, the pulsating worm boss. Hang around the bottom left of the screen with the Orb on front of your spaceship. The worms will run into your orb, amassing 200pts each part of the worm. Some worms go in the part directly above where you are, just move up, then back down when the worm has gone, after about 7 worms, fully charge the blue charge, fire off the Orb and kill the pulsating blue thing in the middle.

The spaceship level 3, just kill everything apart from the end boss, then die / suicide your ship. Do this until you have 1 life left, and complete the level, you can gain loads of points doing this.
