I just flail my arms and legs around and hope I don't drown.

Yuna1000 : I think it's cool that you like the butterfly stroke so much I agree that it can be relaxing to just float in the water, but I barely ever try that because I lack balancing skills XD

I tend to come close to hitting my head on a wall or lane divider no matter what stroke I'm doing. Most of the time it's when I used to do the backstroke. But if I don't wear goggles I end up getting too much water in my eyes to see, I'll bonk my head while doing the frontstroke too

catbert225 : I used to have the same strategy but it didn't always work and the chlorine in pool water doesn't taste good XD

I learned the sidestroke, the breaststroke, the backstroke, and the freestyle when I was a kid and I use a mix of them when I swim. I'm not really into swimming laps for exercise. I like to pretend, at the age of 35, that I'm a submarine when I go swimming so I sink to the bottom of the pool, or the lake, or the ocean or whatever, sit there for a few seconds and then sneak out and stay underwater. There's not much efficiency with backstroke or freestyle with that so I usually option to a breaststroke type maneuver to get myself from one point to the next point. It works and I think it's hilarious.

I also make those little sonar pinging noises when I'm down there. I'm not embarrassed by it either.

Ghostbear1111 : That is hilarious and pretty cool! I wouldn't be embarrassed to make those noises underwater either, except maybe unless one of my friends is down there with me and looking at me weirdly.

I haven't been swimming in so long that, if I could even manage to stay afloat, I would probably resort to the dog paddle. I think the last time I was in a pool was 2009.
