Upload the image showing up below your username in posts. Leave it blank if you don't want to use a picture. The picture is displayed at 200 pixels wide. Only file types allowed are: .jpg , .jpeg , .gif , or .png and must be below 100 KB's in size.
Basically, this implies that if an avatar is too large, it will be resized to 200x200, which is wrong, because I tried to upload a 299x300 image and it said it was too large.
Also, avatar resizing is something MyBB and some other modern software do, so why not have it here? Just make sure it proportionally resizes so stuff doesn't look stretched out too wide or whatever. ^^
Thanks.
(Also is 'quibble' a real word? I use it to mean 'a little thing I have a problem with that probably isn't important', but not sure if it's actually a real word or not.)

I believe the main reason why David doesn't want the files to be resized is because he doesn't want large files being uploaded as avatars because they have to load a bunch of times. I'm not sure if a resize would actually create a smaller file that ends up getting saved or not.

And there are enough photo editing software types that you should be able to edit the photo yourself to be the correct size without much trouble. I've done that myself and I'm far from being an overly tech savvy guy.

geeogree : It could store the large avatar in a /tmp directory, resize it to whatever it wants, do the necessary changes to make the avatar function, then delete the original file from the /tmp directory.
More load on the server which isn't performing too well though at the moment.
(It's mostly because I'm on several boards with various avatar size requirements, and I have a really messy directory structure..., it took me 10 minutes to find a zip file earlier)

Like I said, I'm not an overly tech savvy guy but I doubt David has much inclination to put in the effort to make that happen when resizing your own photos is quite easy to do.

Although, there is a new profile page coming which could quite possibly have a lot of this functionality you're asking for. I haven't had a chance to play around with it yet so I don't know everything it is capable of doing but hopefully there are changes that might accommodate what you are looking for.

Just one thing I have to point out, but I've seen users use pictures that were taller that 200pxls (example would be Vanelan). My guess is that only the width has to be 200pxls wide, because if it was any wider it would mess with the thread layout. So technically it's wrong, but eh...

Also, as for the resizing issue, it is rather easy to resize pictures (I use pixlr, and for some picture formats it even gives you the option to change the quality), and the site only resizes mini pics. In fact, it explicitly says that it resizes mini pics, but it's a bit vague with the actual profile pic. Maybe it'll change with the new recode though :3.

ZeroTails : Yeah, I hope it does. My board actually resizes images of up to a certain size, unless you're an admin, in which you can do whatever.
