Yup, you've read that right. Tekken 7 still hasn't got an official release date (though it's presumed it will be announced in the upcoming E3 after being absent in the last edition), yet it already has a confirmed update with a new character appearing.
You all may think that announcing this update when the game has only been released in Arcade seems kind of pointless. It does seem pointless, as we still know nothing about the game's storyline, other than revealing many dark secrets of the Mishima family. However, it looks like 7 won't explain all the details of the story (wut?), something they leave up to FR.
I have the hunch this update will ruin the original port. Why would people buy a game that has a confirmed update with more characters and more things yet to be unveiled? Only reason I can think is that FR will take years to come to us, just like 7 has taken like 3 years of trailers and leaks before having a confirmed release date, and even if this was true, why announcing it now?
Some may think that Namco is toying with us. Now we don't make a canon game in seven years, now we make two in a row, now we present a Street Fighter character having a confirmed canon appearance... Wait, what's that last sentence about?
Oh yeah, the new character I mentioned earlier. Yup, the new character is from Street Fighter, and is known by the name Akuma. He will make a canon appearance, and seemingly is involved with the Mishimas' dark secrets. It may make kind of sense, since Akuma is known for being a dark individual seeking nothing else than destruction and power (like the "devil" that consumes some Mishimas, but without the demonic appearance), but who knows, maybe Street Fighter X Tekken wasn't an invention, but something that actually happened within the two franchises' storylines and we're just learning about it.
Anyway, what is everyone's opinion? And more important, what is your reaction to having a character from another game have a big role in the canon of another?
