As shocking as it may sound, I have never actually played a final fantasy game. I was wondering what would be a good one to start out with. BTW, I was hoping for suggestions for games that are on this site only.

I'd go with FFV or FFVI. FFV has good selection of job classes (which isn't in every FF) and FFVI has a wide range of characters and a good story line. I'd invest in FFX for PS2 though if I were you I'd say VII as well but that ones hard to find and is starting to get kind of pricey because of it becoming a collectable.
