I personally love the original Playstation 1. I just love the feel of the controller, the console is a top loader, don't ask my why I love top loaders, and the GAMES. We have hidden classics like "PaRappa the Rapper", "Ghost in the Shell", and, my personal favorite, Mega Man 8. Yes, I know the voice acting is bad, I know Clown Man has sparked controversy (He's actually grabbing for your ankles. Robots do not have privates.) but still.

My favorite retro console would be the GBA, mostly because it was my first console ever. Another is that it has some of my favorite games.

I also love the original PS, easily my favorite console ever because some of the games that they had are my all time favorite games like Guardian's Crusade, Yugioh Forbidden Memories, Sim City 2000, and a few others. Some of my best gaming memories ever stem from the PS1.

Probably the N64. It's the system that really got me into gaming. Sure I've played the Genesis and SNES but I wasn't big on gaming then as they were my mom's. The N64 have all my favorite games too (Banjo-Kazooie, Mario Party, Pokemon Stadium, Both Zelda games and the list goes on) . I wouldn't be the gamer I am today if it weren't for that system.

AwesomeTrinket : My favorite retro console is either the snes or n64 due to the great first and third party games developed for it

sadly only a small handful of third party games are any good on newer nintendo consoles

My favorite retro console easily has to be the SNES, the reason why is because it has a huge library of games including my 2 favorites games, Super Mario World and Super Mario All-Stars (which has a remake of Super Mario Bros 3, my favorite video game of all times).

I would actually say ps1. megadrive would come second. Because like I used to play a lot of ps1 games like final fantasy 7 being one of them and a few others such as bugs bunny lost in time, street fighter alpha 3 and gauntlet 2. XD

With the megadrive we had sonic 2, streets of rage 3, street fighter 2 champion edition, chakan man was this a scary game to play when I was little I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I tried and play the game. :/

The heart will always belong to the N64 - I grew up with it, and I still remember opening it up for Christmas when I was like 8 or 9. I loved it, and I regret everyday selling it because (after I got my GameCube) "I won't need it anymore".  Plus playing Bowser's Castle for Mario Kart as a kid was just incredible - I loved it haha.

I would probably go for the GBA. As a portable, it's still a good choice for gaming on the go due to its long battery life and incredible durability. As a game console, it's got a huge library of excellent games and you can get just about anything you'd want to play on the go. I still play GBA games on the go occasionally.

Is it alright If I say I have two favorite retro consoles? I have to say my most favorite retro console would have to be the original PlayStation. This console had an amazing library of games and some pretty obscure ones too. My favorite games for the system would be the Oddworld games and of course the Twisted Metal games (I only had one of both growing up). These games were what really made the PlayStation a great console. There were other games I had such as Road Rash, Reel Fishing, Spyro 1 and 2, Croc, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 (of course) Final Fantasy VII (which was the first and only FF game I really like. No offense to fans of the series) and a couple demo discs. I had other games too but I can't remember them. My second retro console would have to be the Nintendo 64. This was the system I wanted when I was growing up. (I managed to get my own on my 16th birthday) There were some games that blew my mind such as Banjo Kazooie, (I didn't know there was a sequel around 2011) StarCraft 64 (which was a port for a pc game that I have and for the n64 also), The last game I discovered for the Nintendo 64 would be of course, Conker's Bad Fur Day. A game that was made by Rare. When I first laid eyes on this game, I've never seen anything like it. I would never of thought to see so much blood, gore, and swearing in a cartoon like game. These are the games I am particularly drawn on. These two retro consoles are what made games awesome, but we can't forget about the two legendary retro consoles that made video games popular. The Atari 2600 and the Nintendo Entertainment System. I was born in the 90s, and was unable to experience these two consoles myself. Thanks to the wonders of video game emulation, I can enjoy the experience of playing these games. Of course, It would be better playing the games on the real physical systems.

AwesomeTrinket :   That's a very tough question indeed.  I haven't played a console I didn't like, and I have played many of them including the original Atari thanks to my dad being a gamer and me growing up in the 80's.  I WOULD say my favorite would be the Super Nintendo Entertainment System for all of the awesome Square games, and most rpgs in general, but the Sony PlayStation 1 can play many of the old rpgs like almost all of the Final Fantasy series (huge fan) and Chrono Trigger.  They had so many wonderful games, and some of my all time favorites like Suikoden I and II, Legend of Dragoon, the Ogre Battle remake that was for the SNES and Valkyrie Profile.  I am so glad that they have Valkyrie Profile here on Vizzed because that game goes for over $200 on EBay.  Over all, I will go with the original PlayStation as my favorite console so far with a very close second to the SNES

My first choice is Sega Genesis because it's the first console I've ever played/owned and it's what introduced me to gaming as a young child. I don't own one at the moment but when I get the urge to play I just use the RGR here.

My second choice is N64 because I love the majority of games like Goldeneye 007, Donkeykong 64, Supermario 64, Starfox, Pokemon Stadium and Zelda Ocarina of Time! There's a great variety of quality games to choose from and the fact that it's multiplayer is icing on the cake!

My favorites in order are probably:
PSX
SEGA Genesis
N64/SNES

PSX is my favorite because it has that perfect balance between modern and old. It offers some really nice things that no other system that old does, plus offers what the others do. Also the controller is the best among retro systems.

Next is the Genesis because it just had the best game selection by far of the rest (excluding PSX) on my list. A few weeks ago I might have listed the N64 above it, but after buying another N64 recently and playing on it, I realized that those amazing games etc. weren't as amazing after time got ahold of them. They were new at the time I first played them and so seemed better. The Genesis still holds up to this day I feel, and the games feel old but in a good way. They feel retro, not outdated like N64 now does to me.

I had an SNES but very few games for it seemed worth picking up. I picked it and N64 for the list because while they didn't have that many great games (though I thought N64 did at the time) they both had a few great titles, such as Harvest Moon (for both) and the Super Mario and Mario Kart games.

Also if PS2 is included as Retro then I would put it between PSX and Genesis probably, but if not then between Genesis and SNES/N64.

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System may very well be the perfect console of all time.  It had a simple controller design, with enough buttons to make it efficient and without too many controls to mess up the flow of the play.  It's games were a solid mix of developing sports games, RPGs with great storylines, emerging brilliance in music, and it came before the few major franchises started cranking out the same game over and over and over (I'm looking at you, Call of Duty).  Creativity and graphics for the time were impressive and it was a part of my video game development.  I got to watch things progress so nostalgia wins the day against Playstation.

SNES for the win.

Definitely Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It had such quality games. Even though it's been dead for quite a bit, I still think this was the best video game machine ever on the market. Playstation and Playstation 2 get close, but not quite in my mind.

For me it would be a tie between the Sega Genesis and the Playstation 1. Both consoles had really good controllers and had 2 of the most diverse libraries of games available. Though I like the other retro systems as well. These systems are the ones I spend most of my time on.

I guess Gen 6 still doesn't count as retro yet? I mean, it's in the latter end of it's second decade.... If I had to pick one, I'd have to say the n64. It had it's shortcomings, but, for it's day, and even for a long time after, there wasn't a better home console for party games. Games like Mario Kart 64, Mario Party 2, Dr. Mario 64 and Pokémon Stadium make up most of the greatest memories I have of friends. It wasn't until I fell out of touch with them when they moved and I became a hermit that I became more of an RPG and FPS player.
