As reported by Nintendo Life, Dr. Serkan Toto, a solid source, has reported that Smash Bros. will be a launch title for the NX. He doesn't know if it will be a new numbered title or a port. I have a feeling a port is in the making, as a new Smash Bros. would be too quick to come for NX. I thing a remade Smash 4 with all the DLC, even an extra fighter to persuade Nintendo consumers to buy the NX. I really hope it is a new one, but having the old one with all of the DLC will be very nice for those who didn't want to get the DLC for the Wii U, and planned on buying the NX since the annoucement of it.

Smash Bros. as a launch game for the mysterious NX console is an excellent idea! With such a successful series, Nintendo could have a very strong start with it. I hope it's not Smash 5, since the 4th game came out 2 years ago, which is still early if you ask me. Instead, I hope it's a port, along with the DLC characters and DLC stages. New extra characters would be nice.

I can sorta see the benefits of it being a port or a brand new game. If it's a brand new game, people have a reason of getting the NX if they don't want to buy multiple copies of the same game. However, I think it's wayyy too soon for a new Smash game. As for a port, I can see that working if it's superior to the Wii U-3DS version in some way. Like maybe having both the handheld and console stages in the port or having a new character or some other goodies. But people who don't care about that won't have a reason to buy the NX if they don't like the other launch titles. Speaking of which, I wonder what the other launch titles will be.

Nintendo is prone to make big surprise fails, so by this logic it should be Smash 5

Talking seriously, it's too early for Smash 5, so it will be a complete version of 4. The extra quirks of the new generation power could be enough to persuade most buyers, but it wouldn't be strange to see a few new characters added (that could be later turned into DLC for the U port, so as to not let that console die very early).

Announcing this early such a big and important launch title is pretty self explanatory as to how much is Nintendo betting on this NX to be their safeguard in the home console market. And since the bets are high, we could expect very big games coming as launch titles so as to make an early strike against the competition.
