So, I've had an issue with my laptop for a mont or 2 now where my ? would not work for the life of me. I've tried removing the key cover and cleaning it out with compressed air and it wouldn't work. Since attempting that the entire diagonal of keys (0, p, ; and /) stopped working when trying to use their shifted equivalents from the right shift key. The left shift key would work on those but not the right. Also, the right shift worked on EVERYTHING else except that diagonal. I also ruined the . key in the attempt to fix things so it only occasionally stayed in a position that allowed me to use it easily. Half the time it was flipped up at a 45 degree angle.

Needless to say, I had a reason to go into the store where I bought the laptop today so I decided to go get it fixed. I was told 3-5 business days (likely because they've got other orders being fixed ahead of mine) and most likely it won't cost me a penny. I paid for a 3 year product replacement plan which covers basically anything except intentional destruction of the laptop. So, that also means I'm without my normal computer for the rest of the week. This is a huge pain. Basically no gaming for me now.

I'm using my wife's old laptop that basically wasn't getting used because it's about 5 years old now which is allowing me to use Vizzed and stuff but it won't be useful for much else. Still, it's better than nothing and I'm not going to complain too much.

So update....

Apparently at some point during my drop off conversation I was told to bring the power cord for my laptop in. I'm not doubting that they said this but I didn't remember because I had other things I needed to do in that store and afterwards that were occupying my attention. Therefore, I forgot to bring the power cord in until I called on Monday asking for an update and they said they were waiting for me to bring in the cord....

they were fixing keys on the keyboard of my laptop.... did they honestly need my power cord for that? It was fully charged when I dropped it off and they more than likely have some power cords they could use in place of mine.

I'm pretty annoyed. It's now been over a week and I haven't heard anything without directly calling them first. Not impressed at all.

Latest update - I finally got a phone call!

So, turns out that whatever is wrong with my keyboard is too complex for the tech guys to fix so they are ordering me a new one. Should be here by Friday or Monday. That means I'm possibly without my laptop until next Tuesday which will be a full 2 weeks since I dropped it off. I'm pretty annoyed. It's partially my fault for it taking so long but it is pretty stupid that it has taken this long to deal with.

Still, the place is open until 9 so I -might- get it back that day. I'm really wanting it back though. I haven't played minecraft in basically 2 weeks and I feel like I'm behind (or everyone else has caught up) in Galrya.

It's pretty lackluster on their part to wait a week without notifying you that they "need" the power cord. I mean it's like a 30 second phone call. And it taking that long to figure out they simply can't fix it is pretty disappointing as well. So are they simply replacing the laptop, or removing and installing a new keyboard on the laptop itself? I couldn't tell for sure by the way it was worded, and if it's a whole new laptop, are they going to transfer / help transfer any of your information over to the new one?

You should write a 3 page long rant on Yelp about how they need to suffer for this!!!! (jk)

I'm pretty sure they did tell me about the power cord initially and I forgot but if I haven't shown up with the cord in 3 days then CALL ME! It wouldn't take long, like you said, and would have saved a bunch of time. So annoying =/

I got the call today finally! The laptop is fixed and is ready to be picked up. Unfortunately I've had a busy day and can't get there for another hour and then I'm heading to a friends house for the evening (I think) so I'll not be home until nearly midnight server time. Still, I'm so happy to be close to having it back and being able to do more on a computer again. Using a 5 year old laptop is NOT fun when you're used to a newer one.
