So I've been wondering how to get my Genesis fix without hooking up my system (due to laziness and the need for a TV). I discovered the Genmobile a week or so ago. It's a new emulation-based Genesis handheld officially licensed by Sega. It comes with 20 built-in games, a TV-out cord, and can play Genesis carts. There's also another mobile Genesis called the Retrogen. It's pretty much the same idea, only a different design. Then you have Sega's original mobile Genesis, the Nomad.

I've read and watched reviews on all 3. One thing I've heard about both emulation portables is that the sound is off. I suppose it's because of the games being emulated. However, the Nomad is the actual Genesis hardware, just smaller, so there should be no issues (exception of expansions, and Virtua Racer). Though, the Nomad is big and doesn't have a quality LCD screen. I could hire someone to replace the LCD for $65, but I'm 13, I don't really have money. As for the big part, I'm not sure if my hands would really work on it. It's so big, I'm not sure it'd be comfortable to hold.

Please share your thoughts and opinions

Personally I would go with one that plays roms.
Partly because there is less to cart around (no pun intended. 'cart', get it? anyways...) and because I'd have access to a larger selection of games.
Obviously emulation quality could be an issue, so I would look for one that maybe lets you install a secondary emulator into its system?
Though that of course might (will) be a pain to get done.
If having to use game cartridges is no hassle I would get the Nomad as it's the only one of those that was made by Sega, even if the others have been endorsed by them.
So how did the auctions go?

I would go for a Genmobile, but, as you said, emulation issues. Not really that, but the sound.

The auction for the Nomad with 17 games ended. I didn't get it. I had no clue that you had a confirmation screen after entering your bid, so I lost. I am, however, looking at another one.

Thank you for responding

I would go for the Nomad. We have a game store called Game Over. They sell all retro games from atari to psx. Very Nice

If you wouldn't mind losing the cart feature, I would recommend buying a PSP to use for emulation, as it works well with TV Out.

Coldphire: Where exactly do you live? South Carolina?

Beegee: I wouldn't really mind losing the cartridge feature, but it's really the fact that in order to get the PSP to emulate is that I would have to illegally mod it, which I'm not gonna do. Thanks for your suggestion though
