From time to time I try to keep a diary. It works fine for a few weeks, but after a while I forget about it. I've tried both apps and paper diaries but nothing seems to work. This has basically been going on since I was about 7 years old, and I've never managed more than two months.
So my question is; Does anyone here keep a diary? How do you manage it? What does your diary look like, is it an app or a physical book? Tell me all of your suggestions for how to keep a diary for a long time!

I don't do one for my own stuff but I had to keep one while I was in high school so I could graduate but once I was done with that I handed it in and never saw it again, filled up about 80 pages and the entire thing was roughly 4 days a week.

zanderlex : Hm. Maybe I should pretend it's something I have to do for school so that will keep me motivated...

0ddie : Do you like homework? If you do that, then you would treat it like homework, and most people would end up not wanting to do it again and end up losing motivation.

0ddie : Eh, progress is cool, if you know that's something that would motivate you, then it's definelty something you could try out.

I don't anymore, but I did keep one for a year or two. My secret was to keep it in a drawer beside my bed and not allow myself to go to bed without writing in it at night. This takes enough of a memory to not forget that the diary is in the drawer however, so if you can't remember things well, it wouldn't work for you.

An alternative method would be to set an alarm to go off right before your usual bedtime so you would remember to make an entry.

Personally I LOVE the idea of diaries because what you do now may seem boring to you, but one day it will be important to someone, if only yourself or your family after you're gone (morbid, Eirinn). In fact I think I'll start keeping one again now. lol

Eirinn : I'll try using an alarm. That's what I like about diaries, it's so interesting to read what you thought/did years ago.

True. Although I do remember being embarrassed the last time I read an old diary entry. lol Couldn't believe how immature I had been...and I was in my early twenties when I wrote it. xD To make it even more fun, I lost that diary when the storage room my family had their stuff in was auctioned off. No telling who got the thing. I doubt they were interested enough to go past page one though since they didn't know whose it was.

Anyway, I hope you have more luck with your diary this time around.

I kept a journal in the 9th grade, and then again for a few years during my depression in my early 20's. It's been kind of sporadic, but I found that I kept up with it when I wrote when I was upset. Kind of like a vent-book.
