What are some examples of characters you know of that follow the rule of "Die a hero or live long enough to become a villain?"

I put this in this section because I figured a large portion of characters that follow this rule would come from anime/comics/manga.

Spoilers for Puella Madoka Magica (including the third movie) ahead. Do NOT scroll down if you want to avoid the spoilers.

An example I could think of was Homura Akemi from Madoka Magica. She lives her life attempting to be a hero for Madoka (by saving her from becoming a magical girl but ultimately ends up being the cause for Madoka becoming a god. However, Homura wanted to help Madoka because Madoka is who she saw as the only person who really understood her. To keep Madoka from becoming a magical girl she also tried to keep the other magical girls alive, so I guess she's also a sort of hero in that sense. By saving Madoka she ended up making it so she'll never be able to talk to Madoka again. Thus, in the third movie, she rips god from heaven (you'll understand how this series of events was even conceivable if you've seen the movie) and becomes the devil. Yes I'm aware that's not Homura, but that was the only Madoka Magica picture I could find, and this rule also applies to Sayaka (but I won't go into the details of that in case somebody else wants to).

Oh boy, this is a tough question! The only person I can think of-- that at least seems to go by this rule-- is Shiro Fujimoto from Blue Exorcist. Now, please forgive me if I got this wrong. I haven't watched the show in two years and I might get this mixed-matched. If so, please correct me. Thanks in advance!

In the first episode, he gets possessed by Satan. Shiro somehow found the will power to gain back his control for a short while. And in the process, he decided to kill himself. Killing himself resulted into having Satan disconnect him from Shiro and in thus, stopping anything that was about to happen.
