So, I want to make a hack/mod for the NES classic golden title known by many as Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, a game loved by so many that not a single hack of it exists. Sorry, I'll stop now.
Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde for NES is terrible, but I have a soft spot for it. I wanted to make a hack that fixed the problems that new players faced, such as the unfair* and overly zealous bomb guys, that the cane has no use** and that Jekyll moves way too slowly. Unfortunately this is way out of my league, made even harder since no information on hacking this game exists (and for obvious reasons).
I have a couple of ideas on how to make this game more enjoyable to a larger audience, but I am pretty dumb when it comes to programing full stop (any type of language actually) and was wondering if someone smarter than me can fulfill this wish of mine.
I was inspired to do this because I was watching some of Cinemassacre's videos with James and Mike, and they were wondering when they would ever see a Jekyll and Hyde hack in a more recent video, because let's face it, that's something we haven't seen yet. I would ideally want to send this off to them to see their reaction, and of course the hack of this would 99% of the full credit.
This would involve the ability to increase a characters speed, swap characters and abilities when a certain event occurs, change how a weapon functions and a few other things of similar caliber. It'll be a nice interesting challenge to more advanced hackers looking for something different. Feel free to PM me and I can fill you in with more details, and I'll ask to close this when I've found someone that wants to be dedicated to this project. Thanks for reading and considering!
* You can dodge the bombs easily enough by just moving right until it explodes, or walking right and then jumping right as soon as you see the fuse on the bomb.
** The cane actually does have a use; if you get close to someone walking casually (and not running into you) and hit them with the cane, it will register a hit, and you'll take "stress damage" as a result, leaving the person unaffected. Technically this is a really unique idea that plays on the good and evil side, and the more you hurt people, the more you become "Hyde", so to speak. However a lot of people either don't know or don't appreciate this gaming idea, and would probably find the game more fun if they could actually use the cane as a weapon.
